Radioactive Waste in Jordan
Jordan does not produce any radioactive materials. Radioactive waste in Jordan are generated from the following:-
Medicine. Industry Agriculture Teaching and Research centres. And Scrap and Custom Crossing Borders. Orphan sources. NORM activities.

National Centralized RW Storage facility
CSF has been established at JAEC in March 2010. It is planned to collect, store and manage all the LILW generated from hospitals, clinics, industry, agriculture , research and training.
JAEC has built a CSF with the best international standards for protecting our human health and the environment from the long term effects of radioactive waste and to prevent the accidents associated with the spent radiation sources.
The construction and security system funded by GTRI/DOE/USA.
Directorate of Radioactive Waste Management & Transport / JAEC
• Air ventilating system
• Security system.
• Safe handling, conditioning of the radioactive waste, particularly the spent sealed sources by surrounding in cement.
• Safe long term interim storage of the resulting conditioned RW (waste package) for a period until a suitable repository is available for final disposal
• Area of 250 m2.• Capacity of 600
drums or 420 m3.
National Centralized RW Storage facility
Directorate of Radioactive Waste Management & Transport / JAEC
The national centralized RW storage facility consists of two separate buildings (adjacent to each other):-
• The main building ( Dirty area) is designed to have several stores: receipt/dispatch store, operational store for sources to be conditioned, underground stainless steel wells, decay store and stores for high, intimidate and low activity sources.
• The second building (Clean area) houses support facilities (change room, shower (bathroom)/ and wash room, sanitary room, radiation equipment and health physics room, office room, documentation and security monitoring room.

The Radiological Emergency Response Plan for CSF
The emergency response plan for various possible radiological accidents and threatening hazards inside the CSF was prepared by JAEC and approved by JNRC.
The CSF’s emergency plan is written in Arabic. A drills for the activation off- site emergency response plan by
Jordan’s Civil Defense Forces and Public Security Forces were conducted.
