There are many different ways of teaching

English. Some courses are taught through

grammar; others through topics, a third kind is taught through language

functions. In courses which are based on topics or functions, grammar

is used as required.

In this course students use English to communicate from day one.

The course is based upon language functions in which grammar is

carefully controlled. Students see sentences in diagrams and tables where

they are introduced to parts of speech.

Unlike other courses, this course provides enough time to students

to master and acquire lexicon and structures taught.

The skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed

gradually. Don’t expect your students to acquire these skills from the

first time. Moreover, revision and recycling are integrated into the course

to facilitate learning.

There are twenty units. Each unit is divided into four forty-five-

minute lessons. Four weeks of the course are set aside for revision.

Look around you. Where are you now? There must be a clock around you. Why is that?

It is because time is important. You build your routine around time.

You wake up at a special time every morning and sleep at the same

time every night. During the day, there are things you do that do not

change such as having breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is Islamic to

use time wisely in doing things that please Allah. Time never stops

and never goes back. Use it well, while you have it.

Read and answer the questions.

Do you like travelling? Would you like to see different types of weather? Then, go toAfrica! Africa is a large continent. Half of the continent is south of the equator and theother half is north of it. That is why the four seasons can be seen throughout thiscontinent in the same month.

During July and August, the Tunisians, Egyptians andMoroccans enjoy the warm summer sun. However, forthe South Africans, July and August mean winter. Theweather there gets very cold, but it never snows.

Cameroon, Nigeria and Rwanda are around the equator. It is usually hot and humid there and it always rains. For this reason, these countries have many forests and trees.

There are two deserts in Africa. They have no rain. Hot and dry winds blow in thesedeserts all year round. If you plan a visit to Africa, make sure you see three seasons inone month.
