Why Study Primary Sources?

Wikipedia is a secondary source, written long after the events. It tells you that Britain “found itself in intense conflict with the Jewish community”…and that one analyst has described the 1946 King David Hotel bombing” as “one of the most lethal terrorist incidents of the 20th century”…but was this the case? What is the supporting evidence for these statements?

Beyond “Search and Retrieve”
Increasingly, scholars want to do more than just search and view special collections. They want to analyse them in large numbers using computer programmes, to find undiscovered patterns, and to ask new questions.
Dr Adam Crymble (University of Hertfordshire) is a pioneer of this. He is interested in issues around how immigrants have been treated in Britain historically.
