What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Cinema distribution• 1. The opening to our thriller would be suitable for showing in mainstream

cinemas such as Odeon and Vue from my research on cinema, I found that Odeon often show thriller films such as ‘Insurgent’, ‘Fast and Furious 7’ and ‘The Gunman’. The storyline of our film means that it would be more suitable for an older audience, with issues in our thriller dealing with violent issues. However our film may be suitable to be distributed to independent cinemas such as Cinema City due to our thriller not always conforming to the typical thriller. Our film must also be affordable as most young people don’t have the money to spend on luxuries like going to the cinema. Mainstream cinemas are usually cheaper than independent cinemas. Another reason our film would be better off shown at a mainstream cinema, is that Vue now offer a wider variety of media shown, such as opera and live theatre, this means that a wide range of people are likely to find out about the thriller and want to watch . Overall the film would be aimed at a mainstream cinema for distribution due to the cheaper prices for the audiences, making the film more accessible to all.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Digital distribution• In today’s market, with growing methods of digital distribution, this is an

important step in promoting the film. Netflix now offer an ‘at home cinema’ so audiences can view films on at the cinema at home. Most users of Netflix are young teenagers as it is more affordable than going to the cinema every week. Because of this, it would be a good decision for us to distribute our thriller through viewing platforms such as Netflix and Now TV. These are easy to access from home and take less effort than going to the cinema, maximizing the audience numbers that will be attracted to our thriller. Promotion techniques available online are now more successful than the traditional idea of ‘word of mouth’ as the thriller can be shared to a large number of people at once. Advertising campaigns will gain more attention and attract more people to the upcoming film. Recent films such as ‘Fast and Furious 7’ use social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter to allow the public to gain easy access to information.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

TV Distribution• I don’t think that T.V distribution would be beneficial for

our thriller film, as it is more likely to be released to the box office. However, companies such as the BBC regularly broadcast thriller series such as ‘Spooks’ and ‘Spiral’ on and BBC 4. However, many of these thriller programmes are targeted towards an older audience who don’t want to go to the cinema to see films. The BBC do not aim their broadcasts towards younger audiences, therefore not relevant to our target audience and not being suitable for T.V distribution.
