Biografia

• O alemão August Sander nasceu em Herdorf, em 1876.

• Recebe a sua primeira maquina fotográfica aos 16 anos e começa a fotografar nos seus tempos livres, revelando os negativos num laboratório construído por si mesmo.

• Em 1902 transfere-se para Linz onde começa a trabalhar como assistente no estúdio de Greif.

• Entre 1910 montou em Colónia-Lindenthal o seu próprio estúdio que teve o seu nome.

• É conhecido, principalmente, pelos retratos que fez para o seu projecto sobre o «Homem do Século XX» que pretendia ser uma visão geral das figuras-arquétiposda vida moderna. Projecto em que trabalhou até aos anos 50.

• A sua sistematização é considerada um dos primeiros exemplos de arte conceptual que influenciou a evolução da escultura.

• A nível internacional, Sander é sem dúvida o fotografo alemão mais conhecido deste século.
