What is Copyright? Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of original works of authorship, including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. According to the United States Copyright Office (2008, p.1), Copyright protects rights of authors to make copies, sell, or distribute. 4. What can be Copyrighted? Tangible written or recorded objects can be copyrighted. Ideas and verbal presentations can not be copyrighted. For copyright protection, there are these necessary as follows: Fixation Originality 5. Public Domain Public domain means open/free access to materials or works without restrictions of copyright law. Public Domain examples include: Any works published before 1923 US government works and documents Expired copyright works What is CC0? 6. What is Fair Use? Fair useUsing copyrighted works for limited time without the permission Fair Use Standards are: 1-Purpose and Character of the Use 2-Nature of the Copyrighted Work 3-The Amount and substantiality of the portion used 4- The effect of use on the potential market(U.S. Copyright Office, 2010) 7. http://library.ucf.edu/Reference/Instruction/copyright.php 8. Intellectual Property According to the UCF Library Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights and More Research Guide (2013), Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. Plagiarism According to the UCFs Golden Rule, the plagiarism defined as: whereby anothers work is used or appropriated without any indication of the source, thereby attempting to convey the impression that such work is the students own.
