Dear Traveler,

Traveling is a wonderful way to experience diverse cultures, taste different, sometimes exotic, cuisines, and meet new people. Add to this the chance to relax, renew your energy, and reconnect with family and friends, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of America’s favorite pastimes. South and Central America remain top destinations for travelers, with their magnificent landscapes, unique flora and fauna, superb wines, tantalizing gastronomies, and friendly people. South America is also home to two of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Peru’s Machu Picchu and the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio. Nature and animal lovers will find these regions extraordinary, foodies and wine connoisseurs can indulge to their heart’s delight, and everyone will be captivated by the cities, architecture, monuments, and landscapes. Whatever you desire, this travel catalog is your guide to finding the vacation of your dreams.

When arranging your travels, you want to work with an expert, and that expert is Brendan. We have 45 years of

experience in planning the perfect vacation, and as you browse through our itineraries, know that we offer you worry-free arrangements, exceptional experiences, and service that is second to none, all from a company you can trust and depend on. We were founded on the grand Irish traditions of gracious hospitality, affability and an indomitable spirit, and we bring these qualities to each and every trip we arrange – you’ll feel it as you visit our neighbors to the south.

Brendan’s Guided Vacations are extraordinary in every aspect. Through careful planning, we make the most of your time and take care of all the details for you. First and foremost, you have the services of a friendly travel director, whose knowledge, advice, and attention to detail is legendary. Brendan’s Travel Directors are there to make your adventure memorable, fun, exciting, and worry-free. Next, we personally select each of the hotels you’ll stay in, choosing the best possible in comfort and location. An added benefit: The hotels we use feature free WiFi. At each overnight stop, your Travel Director will check you in and out, and provide you with your room key, so you don’t have to wait in line. Your luggage is effortlessly delivered to your room and returned to the coach when it’s time to go. With your expert driver, you will glide smoothly in a luxurious motorcoach, offering an amazing vantage point over the countryside and sights that you pass, plus most of our coaches are equipped with free WiFi. Sometimes you’ll travel by boat, plane or train – but whatever mode of transportation is used, rest assured we’ve selected the most convenient and comfortable. All stops and VIP sightseeing visits are organized well in advance, so you go right in and bypass the long lines that most travelers encounter. And, our special “be my guest” dining, hidden treasures and other treats await you. Another benefit of a Guided Vacation is the chance to make new friends. You’ll meet your traveling companions at a Welcome Reception your first night on vacation, and part on the last day with hugs and an exchange of phone numbers and email addresses – maybe even plans for your next trip together!

Because we know that no two travelers are alike, we offer a variety of guided vacation travel styles for you to choose from. You might prefer a slower-paced Leisurely Vacation. Maybe a Discovery Vacation covering a number of areas is more your style. Or, get away on a Family Vacation for some quality time with the kids.

Brendan’s vacations are a great value, but for an even better deal, take advantage of the discounts we offer. You’ll get the best savings by booking and paying for your vacation early, plus you’ll avoid the disappointment of finding out your dream vacation is already fully booked. Many of our discounts can be combined, making your savings even better.

Our only goal is to make your vacation the most wonderful you’ve ever had, until your next trip with us. When you are ready to book, Brendan will work seamlessly with your travel agent to handle all of the details to ensure you an easy and hassle-free vacation experience of a lifetime.

As the Roman philosopher Seneca said nearly 2,000 years ago, “Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” And at Brendan Vacations, we agree. We have been sharing the world with travelers since 1969, and know exactly how to create the right mix of sightseeing and free time, included meals and opportunities to sample the local cuisine your way, and hotels in city centers or in quiet, scenic locations. With Brendan, all of the details are taken care of for you – we research the destinations, read the maps, do the driving, make the reservations and handle the technicalities – all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the sights along the way.

Brendan’s philosophy is simple – we want to bring you the best, so that the next time you travel we have the opportunity to do so again. To that end, we offer a selection of vacation styles, accommodations and more. Plus, our expertise in organizing memorable trips is matched by our attention to bringing you the best value possible. With an ever-changing dollar, this is more important than ever. Add to this the peace

of mind that comes from working with a strong and financially secure company, and you have everything you need to start planning your next vacation.

Depending on your destination, you can choose a Guided, Independent, Customized or Private Chauffeur vacation. But rest assured that whichever vacation style you select, Brendan’s Specialists are working behind the scenes every step of the way to make your vacation everything you’ve dreamed of.

On our Guided Vacation programs you have the option of choosing between First Class Regional or Discovery Vacations, Family itineraries, Boutique Journeys which travel with a maximum of 24 guests, Low Cost, Leisurely and Personal Interest itineraries. On all of these, you will stay in fine hotels or lodges and travel in style and comfort. You will see the highlights of cities along the way and, on most itineraries, many inside visits to attractions are included. Plus, we often include “Hidden Treasures” and Local Specialties – those

things that the locals know about and love, but are not part of an ordinary trip. In many locations you will enjoy “Be My Guest” or “You’re Personally Invited” dining – truly unique experiences – plus highlight meals, wine tastings, local food sampling and more. And, you’ll travel with an experienced Travel Director or Local Travel Expert. These professionals take care of all the details – both big and small – making your trip completely hassle-free. They answer your questions, fill you in on local histories, and share tall tales, folk legends, perhaps a song or two and plenty of laughter.

Brendan’s Independent European and South Pacific Vacations feature flexible itineraries. They provide pre-confirmed accom-modations (you choose the hotel standard to suit your needs and budget) for the number of nights you want to spend in each city, airport/hotel transfers, trans portation between destinations, sight seeing, and the services of a Brendan local host. A perfect solution for travelers seeking just a little help from the experts while still setting off at their own pace.

WayCustomized Vacations in Ireland and the UK offer you a wide range of accommodation choices – from B&Bs to castles and manors – plus rental cars, sightseeing and airport/hotel transfers. We will help you design your own unique itinerary while giving you all the inside information and recommendations.

A Private Chauffeur Vacation in Ireland or the UK offers the best in vacation comfort. Your trip is designed around you – you choose the number of nights you want in each city, the sightseeing you want included, and your accommodations – whatever suits your interests and budget. Plus, you have a private chauffeur to read the maps and do the driving. Truly the ultimate in travel!

So, whether you travel on your own, with a partner, family or friends, you can be certain that a Brendan vacation will guarantee you an unsurpassed travel experience.

YOUR CHOICE

INDEPENDENT VACATIONS – TRAVEL ON YOUR OWN, BUT NEVER ALONEFor travelers wanting a vacation that has all the essentials taken care of before leaving home, but who do not want to travel in a group, an Independent Vacation is just what you’re looking for. You have pre-confirmed accommodations, trans portation between destinations (in most cases), sightseeing and the assistance of a Brendan local host, 24/7. A perfect solution for those seeking just a little help from the experts while still setting off at their own pace.

Your vacation includes a variety of overnight stays, a choice of hotel standards (Moderate, First Class and Premier), private airport transfers, rail tickets, and sightseeing options in some of Europe, Australia, and New Zealand’s greatest cities. You decide what suits your interests and budget, then leave the rest to us. Brendan will make all the reservations and handle all the details.

Plus, in each European city in which you have an overnight stay, you have the assistance of a Brendan local host. In the South Pacific, your Brendan local host resides in the first city on your itinerary. In all destinations, they will visit you at your hotel the day you arrive to answer questions, book tours, and

Your Vacation Stylemake suggestions for dining, shopping, or any other interest. They are available by phone at any time after that, 24/7.

Private airport arrival and departure transfers are included for every Independent Vacation. For hotel and train transfers during your vacation, the hotels we’ve selected for you to choose from are all within easy reach of train stations – either walking or by a short taxi ride. Private transfers are available for a small additional fee should you wish to be met.

Independent Vacations are a fun and leisurely way to “Travel Alone, But Never On Your Own...”

BOUTIQUE JOURNEYSOn Brendan Boutique Journeys, you will have a more intimate vacation experience, traveling with a maximum of 24 guests. You will enjoy sights and activities that are not available to larger groups, and stay in unique accommodations. On most itineraries, travel is on smaller vehicles, making little secluded sites accessible, and the pace is slower so you can experience the destination in more depth. Plus, Local Travel Experts are there to lead the way. You’ll get a true taste of cultures and cuisines across the globe.

GUIDED VACATIONSYour travel experience on Brendan’s Guided Vacations will include first class accommodations, a deluxe motorcoach, sightseeing, regional cuisine and transfers, all with the services of a professional, knowledgeable and friendly Travel Director. Guided Vacations are a great way to see the world!

Discovery Vaca t ions. Discovery Vacations take in multiple countries in a panoramic overview. This type of itinerary is good for first-time visitors who want to see as much as possible or returning guests who like the variety offered in exploring several areas.

Regional Vaca t ions. These itineraries focus on a specific country or region. They are great for those with an interest in just one area, or those who have taken a Discovery Vacation and want to return to see their favorites in-depth.

Leisurely Vaca t ions. Brendan’s Leisurely Vacations are a wonderful way to see the world at a slower pace than our First Class itineraries. Leisurely Vacations feature the popular sightseeing programs always included in our travel values, but generally stay in each major city visited for 2 or 3 nights, with plenty of free time. You will have an introductory tour, then a chance to explore at your own pace. You can sleep in, relax, and plan your days your way. And on most travel days, hotel departures are no earlier than 9 a.m.

Family Depa r t ures. With today’s hectic lifestyles, it can be very difficult for families to find time to spend together. So, we offer several itineraries geared to families, all featuring activities that will entertain and educate kids of all ages. Whether it’s parents traveling with their children, grandparents with their grandchildren, or extended family, Brendan makes it easy to create memories that will last a lifetime.

VACATION ExTENSIONSBrendan’s Pre- and Post-Vacation Extensions are the perfect way to add a few more days to your vacation with ease. We’ve done the research for you, and know the most popular destinations to complement and enhance your trip. Let us help you make the most of your vacation time and dollars with our pre-planned packages.

You’ve seen the pictures, heard the tales and legends, read the histories, watched the documentaries, maybe even tasted the cuisine – now it’s time to go! Whether you’re seeking a lively vacation with lots of activity or a relaxing break from everyday stresses, Brendan offers you the opportunity to fulfill your fantasies. With a sightseeing program second to none, you’ll experience the highlights of cities across the globe on your Brendan Vacation.

On all of our Guided and Independent Vacations, you’ll enjoy an orientation tour of the main cities and towns you visit. These are usually lead by a Local Expert – someone who really knows the area because it’s also their home! They’ll bring the sights and their histories to life with stories, insights and in-depth knowledge.

Traveling on a Brendan Guided Vacation, you’ll do more than just see the “not-to-be-missed” sights – you’ll partake of their wonders. Imagine strolling through world-famous sites, not just driving past or stopping for pictures. We will share the traditions, cultures and wonders of every corner of the world, from the must-see attractions to some of the little gems known only to the locals.

LOcAL SPeciALTieS

Many of our Guided Vacation itineraries include a Local Specialty – a visit or experience that is unique to an area, where you can see the best of the best firsthand. Local Specialties are always a fun and different addition to your vacation!

VIP ENTRY & HEADSETS

To ensure you get the most out of your sightseeing experiences, Brendan provides VIP entry at many attractions and headsets so you can easily hear your guide’s commentary. This means you don’t have to wait in a long, slow line, you can go right in and have more time to explore. Plus, you’ll enjoy all the sights without straining to hear or rushing to keep up with the front of the group. These special features are available on most of our Guided Vacations.

Sometimes the best way to see a particular sight is with a smaller group. To accommodate this, on some itineraries we’ll split into groups no larger than 25 guests and bring in two guides to conduct a more intimate tour.

For Guided Vacations, Brendan’s hotels are listed on each itinerary page. Our ratings are: Deluxe (DLX), Moderate Deluxe (MD), Superior First Class (SF) and First Class (F). In locations where there are no hotels that fit these categories and on our Low Cost itineraries, we use Moderate First Class (MF), Superior Tourist (ST), Tourist (T) or Best Available (BA) properties. They may not be as centrally located, but they will be clean, cozy and a great value. Sometimes you’ll stay in a National Park (NP)! But whatever the rating, you can be assured that your hotel will be comfortable and perfectly located. Your city hotel will be well situated for independent sightseeing, dining and shopping. Hotels in the country have scenic locations. And each hotel is inspected by our Quality Control Team to insure they meet our exacting standards.

AuTheNTic AccoMMoDATioNSIn many locations, there’s a unique, interesting, or special hotel or lodge – an accommodation that is a destination itself! It may be the architecture, historical significance, location, or past guest list that marks the property as “the” place to stay. And with Brendan, you will!

Look for a @ in the itineraries, denoting an Authentic Accommodation.

Free WiFiAll of the hotels Brendan features in South & Central America offer our guests free WiFiÙ! An easy way to stay connected with family and friends back home.

For your convenience, hotel taxes, service charges and tips for baggage handling are included in the price of your Guided Vacation. You will receive a list of hotel addresses, telephone and fax numbers with your travel documents.

aBoUt this VacatioN Some parts of Costa Rica, especially in remote areas such as inside Tortuguero National Park and Sarapiqui, are still off the beaten path. Hotel facilities, while the best available, may be limited, such as the Laguna Lodge in Tortuguero and Hacienda Sueño Azul Resort in Sarapiqui. Both have comfortable but simple guestrooms with en suite bathrooms, ceiling fans instead of air-conditioning, and no phone or TV. Meal choices may be limited and not as extensive as on other Brendan Guided Vacations. This program requires walking on uneven surfaces and steps, and through heavy rainfalls (umbrellas provided). This journey is best enjoyed by the experienced traveler in good health, who can take such conditions in stride.

Relax by the pool or work out in the gym before meeting your Travel Director and fellow explorers at 6 p.m. for a festive Kick-off Party. KP

2 SAN JoSe / BrAULio CArriLLo NAtioNAL PArK / tortUGUero NAtioNAL PArK "Rise with the roosters and head east through Braulio Carrillo National Park towards the Caribbean Sea. Board a river boat, gliding through canals, lagoons and lowland rainforest teeming with wildlife. You’ll be amazed at how many kinds of animals live here – six species of sea turtles, monkeys, caimans, tons of exotic bird species plus rare and endangered ocelots, river otters and manatees. The afternoon is yours – hang out by the pool or on the beach, or head to Tortuguero Village to meet the students (when school is in session). Join a Local Expert from the Sea Turtle Conservancy Foundation to learn about the incredible turtles that nest in Tortuguero. Enjoy a buffet dinner at the resort’s open-air restaurant along the Tortuguero lagoon tonight. B L D

3 tortUGUero NAtioNAL PArK SiGHtSeeiNG & Free tiMeArrr, arrr, arrr! There’s nothing like the wake- up call of a troop of howler monkeys to start your day. Set off with your guide to explore the lush canals and waterways of Tortuguero National Park. You may want to start a tally of all the types of wildlife you’ll see. Look out for sloths, green iguanas, caiman, crocodiles and colorful toucans. Of course, you’ll spot tons of monkeys – agile howler and spider monkeys and white-faced capuchins swinging through the dense rainforest canopy. This afternoon, you can venture back out on the canals to add to your wildlife tally or relax back at the lodge – the choice is yours! If you’re visiting

Continue traveling to tiny Sarapiqui where you’ll visit a pineapple farm, the only farm of its kind in the world producing certified organic golden pineapples, a Local Specialty. Take a swim in the pool at the hotel, stroll into town or just relax and enjoy your unique surroundings. cb

Your next visit is Ahu Tongariki, the most recent and largest restoration project on the island, with 15 huge moai. On to Ahu Te Pito Kura and, finally, Anakena Beach with its restored Ahus Nau Nau and Ature Huke.
