PACKAGING We offer many packaging options for both the contractor and court owner. Most of our products come in 80-lb plastic bags, with the option of getting that product in an Easy-Lift 50-lb plastic bag, as well. The 50-lb-bag option is intended for those of us not used to handling bags all day. Some insurance company requirements in certain areas will dictate using a 50-lb bag. Both the 80-lb and the 50-lb bags can be palletized and stretch-wrapped for easy handling and additional weather protection.

For our contractors, we also stock and load Har-Tru or HydroBlend in bulk bags. These disposable bags are available in 2000 lbs, 2500 lbs and 2800 lbs and can be taken right from the truck to the court with a forklift.

Court reconditioning is the annual or semiannual process used for reinvigorating your tennis court. 108-3677 36' Temporary Lines Our 36' temporary lines come in red to match the red ball used on 36' courts and to show up sharply against the Har-Tru green. The system comes in two pieces, an outside rectangle and an inside I. The pieces are attached with VelcroTM and secured to the court surface with just 12 nails. Nails are included with the lines. Lines are 1" wide.

108-3678 60' Temporary Lines These lines are identical to the 36' lines, except they are colored orange to match the orange ball used in 60' tennis. Ten nails (included) secure these to the court. One VelcroTM intersection allows you to install the lines without disconnecting the center strap. All intersections are stitched together. Lines are 1.5" wide.

This is the fastest and easiest way to mask court boundaries for painting, by laying out masking tape lines precisely and evenly. Tape guides can be changed in seconds. Lay 1-inch masking tapes 1 1/2", 2 1/2", or 3" apart. Curves and circles can be done just as easily as straight lines. 8 lbs.

All the heads we offer have stainless steel risers and are highly suited for tennis court sprinkler systems. Here are a few notes that might help you make a selection:

1. Ascertain the pressure and volume of your water source and the size of your incoming line. Then utilize the chart on the next page to see what heads are an option.

2. The higher the model numbers, the more water the head will put on the court and the further the throw radius.

3. The Rainbird Falcon Series has a different head for full-circle (FC) and part-circle (PC) rotation, so select the head that meets your needs.

4. HS means it is a high-speed head. High-speed heads turn more quickly than standard heads, allowing them to distribute more water per watering cycle. Due to the faster rotating speed, the distance they throw the water will be reduced.

Windscreens are a functional and aesthetic addition to your tennis courts. They provide a dark backdrop against which players can see and react to ball movement better. They serve to break up gusting winds and allow consistent, even air flow. Windscreens minimize annoying distractions from nearby swimming pools, parking lots, highways and players on adjacent courts. They give courts a professional appearance and increase playing pleasure by providing a consistent background and color.

With today’s various windscreen materials, the decision regarding which one to use should be based primarily on cost and aesthetic considerations rather than on wind reduction, because all windscreens work well to break up gusting winds.

Another consideration is how dense a windscreen can be installed without risking fence damage from strong winds. Nine-foot windscreens are recommended for nearly all courts, and they should include anti-billow tabs as well as 6" x 12" openings placed 5' to 10' apart. Six-foot windscreens generally do not look as attractive as, nor reduce wind as well as, nine-foot windscreens. They should only be used if the facilities are located near the water with very strong winds, which would destroy fences with 9' windscreens attached.

Our most highly recommended windscreen is the Mastershade Plus. Made of knitted high-density polyethylene monofilament, it has superior UV resistance and a special “heat-set” treatment that allows the windscreen to lie flat and straight on the fence without billowing. Mastershade Plus hems are 3-ply construction with heavy-duty binding, and anti-billow tabs built into every 9' piece. It is moderately priced, easy to install, very durable and looks good

over time, making it perfect for nearly all applications. However, if privacy is an issue, you may need a more opaque windscreen to minimize visual distractions from public thoroughfares. The Royale Screen, made of vinyl-coated polyester, is an excellent choice and offers a high level of opacity.

For smaller budgets, the PVC offers high mildew and sun resistance at an excellent price, while the polypropylene Air Master I is an excellent choice for controlling wind while providing consistent airflow. They both look great on the court and add to your playing pleasure.

At the high end, the nine-foot-high Pro Screen offers a particularly attractive and distinctive look with its five-foot-high vinyl center (for maximum ball visibility) and two-foot-high PVC top and bottom (for optimal airflow).

ABOUT HAR-TRU COURTS


WHY SHOULD I PLAY ON A HAR-TRU COURT?Har-Tru allows for the player to slide into the shot, which dramatically reduces the amount of injury and stress that can occur in the lower part of the body on a hard court. The court is also much cooler during the hot summer months. From a developmental standpoint, Har-Tru slows the pace of the ball down as it bounces. This forces longer rallies, which causes the player to think through the point more. The slowness of the game also makes it more enjoyable for recreational and senior players because they are able to get to more balls and play longer into the day.

WHAT IS THE BASE OF A HAR-TRU COURT? Typically, the base of a Har-Tru court consists of a stable, well-graded, porous, crushed stone material. There are guide specifications available for prospective builders. Some bases, such as cocina and soft, water-soluble limestones, will actually recalcify over time and become impervious to water. The top layer made of the crushed stone screenings (1/4" to dust) and a sub-base layer of larger, well-graded stone (3/4" to dust).

HOW SHOULD I BUILD MY COURT? Laser technology and its use with grading equipment have helped modernize the tennis court building industry. Courts can now be graded accurately to within one half of an inch, an 80% improvement over previous tolerances. Additionally, it takes only one eighth the time to build a court. Because of these advances, most larger and reputable tennis court contractors either own laser-guided grading equipment or subcontract the laser grading out.

Another option is to build your own court with help from Har-Tru. Typically, carpentry tools, a surveyor’s level or laser level, screed rails and a straight edge, rakes, shovels and lutes are the key tools needed to construct your own court. It isn't very complicated and just takes some time and planning, and—of course—hard work.
