Time Shit BuerAs soon as you turn on this recorder, theprogram shown on the TV will be stored intothe Time Shit Buer. It acts as atemporary HDD storage o your recordings.The contents will be automatically deletedater a time period o 3 hours, when you turno this recorder or when you switch it tostandby mode. To store the contents on thehard disk, you have to mark the segment in
the Time Shit Buer or recording toprevent them rom being deleted.
Instant ReplayYou can repeat a scene o a live TV program
by pressingbutton on the remotecontrol, as oten as you like.
To return to the live TV program, press and
hold.
Pause Live TVA live TV program is now under yourcontrol. You can pause the program bypressing PAUSE button and resume
playback at the scene it was interrupted bypressing PLAY button.
To return to the live TV program, press and
hold.
Direct Recording to DVDThis eature enables you to record contentdirectly on to a recordable DVD disc.
Press DVD REC button on the remotecontrol to activate direct recording to the
recordable DVD disc.

What kind o disc should I use orrecording?You can only record on both DVDR and
DVDRW discs. DVD+R/+RW is the mostcompatible recordable DVD ormat on the
market today. They are ully compatible to
most o the existing DVD-Video players and
DVD-ROM drives in computers.
What is the capacity o aDVD recordable disc?4.7GB, or equivalent to 6CDs. You can store
only one hour o recordings on a single disc at
the highest quality (DVD standard) and about
6 hours recordings at the lowest quality
(VHS standard.)The mode o record quality indicates the
number o hours that will ft on a single disc.
What is the dierence betweenDVDR and DVDRW?DVDRs are recordable discs and
DVDRWs are rewritable discs. With a
DVDR disc, you can record multiple sessions
on the same disc, but when the disc is ull, you
cannot record any more content on the disc.The DVDRW disc allows you to record over
the same disc repeatedly.
What is DV?Using DV, also known as i.LINK, you can
connect a DV-equipped camcorder tothis recorder using a single DV cable orinput and output o audio, video, data andcontrol signals.
This recorder is only compatible with
DV-ormat (DVC-SD) camcorders. Digital
satellite tuners and Digital VHS video
recorders are not compatible.
You cannot connect more than one DV
camcorder at a time to this recorder.
You cannot control this recorder romexternal equipment connected via the DV IN
jack.
Can I copy a VHS tape or DVD
rom an external player?Yes, but only i the VHS tape or DVD is not
copy-protected.
What are Titles and Chapters?A DVD disc contains Titles and Chapters,
which are similar to the Titles and Chapters o
a book. A Title is oten a complete movie andis broken down into Chapters, or individual
scenes rom the movies.

A program is recorded as a single title, it mayconsist o one chapter or a ew chapters
within a title, depending on the recording
settings.
How do I set up Titles and Chapters?
The recorder will automatically create a new
Title each time you start a new recording.
For DVD recordings, you can add chapters
manually.
For HDD recordings, you can presetchapters to be automatically inserted at
5-minutes intervals.
What does fnalizing a disc do?Finalizing a disc locks the disc so it can no
longer be recorded, only required or
recorable DVDs. It will then be compatible
with virtually any DVD player. To close a disc
without fnalizing it, simply stop recording and
eject the disc. you will still be able to recordon the disc i there is room or more
recordings.
How good is the quality o the
recording?
There are six modes o record quality levelsto choose rom, ranging rom HQ (1 hour
recording at high quality) to SLP (6 hours
recording at VHS quality) on a recordable
DVD. Choose the quality level that best suits
your purpose and the length o material.

Setup precautions
Finding a suitable location
Place the set on a at, hard and stablesurace. Do not place the set on a carpet.
Do not position the set on top oother equipment that might heat it up(e.g., receiver or amplifer.)
Do not put anything under the set(e.g., CDs, magazines.)
Install this unit near the AC outlet andwhere the AC power plug can be reachedeasily.
Space or ventilation Place the apparatus in a location withadequate ventilation to prevent internalheat build up. Allow at least 10 cm (4)clearance rom the rear and the top othe set and 5 cm (2) rom the let andright to prevent overheating.
Avoid high temperatures, moisture,water and dust
Apparatus shall not be exposed to
dripping or splashing. Do not place any sources o dangeron the apparatus (e.g., liquid flledobjects, lighted candles.)
Cleaning discs
Some problems occur because the discinside the recorder is dirty (rozen picture,sound disruptions, picture distortions.) Toavoid these problems, discs should becleaned on a regular basis.
To clean a disc, use a micro fbre cleaningcloth and wipe the disc rom the centerto the edge in a straight line.
CAUTION!Do not use solvents such as benzene,thinner, commercially available cleaners,or anti-static sprays intended or discs.
HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
handling care
The HDD is a ragile piece o device thatis easily prone to damage due to its longrecording capacity and high speedoperation. Do not move the unit while it isturned on.
Do not remove the AC power plugrom the power outlet during operation.
Do not use the unit in excessively hotor humid places. It may causecondensation to orm inside the unit.
I the HDD ails, playback and recordingwill not be possible. In this case, it will benecessary to replace the HDD unit.
WARNING!The HDD is not a device or storingrecorded content permanently. Werecommend that you copy the importantvideo content to a recordable DVD asbackup.

This recorder has a built-in hard diskdrive (HDD), you can record up to 102hours o video in SLP (Super Long Play)record quality mode.
With both recordable DVD and highcapacity HDD in the same recorder, youhave the exibility to keep recordings onthe HDD or copy to a recordable DVDor saekeeping or later viewing.

Connecting a camcorder tothe ront jacks
You can use the ront jacks to copycamcorder recordings. These jacks arelocated behind the ap on the right handside and provides convenient connectionsor a camcorder.
Option 1: Using the DV IN jackUse this connection i you have a Digital
Video or Digital 8 camcorder. The DVjack conorms to the i.LINK standard.It provides the best picture quality.
Use an i.LINK 4-pin cable (not supplied)
to connect the DV INjack on therecorder to the appropriate DV OUTjack on the camcorder.
Beore you start operating, press DV onthe remote control to select DV as theinput channel. For recording, see pages29~39.
Helpul Hints: The DV IN jack does not support aconnection to a Personal Computer. It is not possible to record rom therecorder to your camcorder via the DV INjack on your recorder.

recorder or the frst time, it isadvisable that you make severalbasic settings.
Please see the ollowing pages on usingthe Setup Menu eatures to program TVchannels, menu language and systemclock settings. This will improve theperormance o this recorderconsiderably.
Finding the viewing channel
A Press STANDBY-ON2 on therecorder to turn it on.
B Turn on the TV and set it to the correctvideo-in channel. You should see the blueDVD background screen. Usually this channel is between the
lowest and highest channels and may be
called FRONT, A/V IN, VIDEO. See yourTVs manual or more details.
Or, you may go to channel 1 on your
TV, then press the Channel down button
repeatedly until you see the Video In
channel.
Or, the TV remote control may havea button or switch that chooses dierent
video modes.
Or, set the TV to channel 3 or 4 iyou are using a RF modulator.

About temporary HDDstorage (Time Shit Buer)
As soon as you switch on this recorder,the currently selected TV program will
be stored in a temporary hard diskstorage called TSB (Time Shit Buer),(up to 3 hours o programs.)
In tuner mode, the Time Shit video barwill appear on the screen, it indicates thestatus and timing o the TV programsstored in the temporary HDD storage.
You can choose to display or remove thevideo bar by pressing them key on theremote control.

{ Manual } During recording, when the HDD is ull, recording
will be stopped. A warning message { The hard diskis ull. Please erase some programs to allow
urther recording. } will appear on the screen.
This option will erase all marked/ unmarked recordings on theHDD. This option is not available when recording to HDD is inprogress.
Press to highlight OK. A warning message will appear. Select OKOK to proceed or OKCANCEL
to abort. Once complete, the recorder will switch to standby mode.
This option will erase all content on a DVDRW disc, includingthose that were not recorded on this recorder. This optionis only available in tuner mode.

Copying rom HDD to arecordable DVD
You can copy a recorded title(s) rom theHDD (hard disk drive) to a recordable
DVD disc.
The time taken to copy content rom theHDD to a recordable DVD depends onthe record quality o the HDDrecordings.
It is not possible to change the mode o
record quality during the copyingprocess. As such, it is important that youchoose the appropriate record qualitywhen you frst set up the recording tothe HDD.
The copying process is done at a higherspeed than the recording.

There are several ormats o DVDrecordable discs which can be used withthis recorder:
DVDRW (DVD ReWritable discs) Discs that are rewritable can be usedor multiple recordings once the existingdata has been erased.
DVDR (DVD Recordable discs)
Discs that can only be used or a singlerecording. Each new recording is alwaysadded at the end o all previousrecordings as existing recordings cannotbe overwritten. Editing can be made on DVDR discsas long as they have not been fnalized. To play a DVDR disc on anotherDVD player, it must be fnalized (see page58.) Ater this is done, no more contentcan be added to the disc.
TIPS:Ensure that there is sufcient space available on the DVDR beore recording.You have to fnalize the DVDR beore it can be played on other players, see page 58.
