    Dear Mr. Baretow:Enclosed i s an interim release of material in response to your April 2 8,200 6,Freedom o f Information Act request, as modified by your letter dated February 13,2007.The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Public Affairs, has provided theenclosed documents as responsive to your equest. Of the 67 included pge&64 pages ofe m a il s have been 'Bates Stamoed* from 5200 to 5263 to assist vou in reviewins thisresponse. The other three pages will be addressed below.Mr. William P. Mamion, Executive Secretary of the Department of Defense, anInitial Denial Authority (IDA), has determined that some of the redacted information isexempt from release because 'it to internal matters of a relatively trivial nature(hat do not shed significant light on an agency personnel rule or practice. In this instance,the redacted information consists of non-roblic DoD teleohone and room numbers.Additionally, portions of the withheld information are&cifically exempted by 10U.S.C. 5 130b, which applies to personally identifiable information of personnel inoverseas. sensitive or routinelv deolovable cositions. Other deleted information exemptfrom release pertains to certain inter-or i nk -a ge nc y communications protected by thedeliberative& m s privilege. Finally, some info&ation is withheld because releasewould constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion o f the personal privacyof individuals.The redacted information under this exemption consists primarily of homde-mailaddresses, social security num bers and pe& onally identifying information o f DoDpersonnel. Consequently, this information is denied pursuant to 5U.S.C. 1

Ms. ~ l e s i a.Williams, anIDA for the DIA. has determined that some of the information is currentlv and orwerlv.classified in accordancewith Executive Order 12958,as amended. section 1.41;).concerning intelligence activities (including special activities), intelligencesourcesormethods or crvotolwv. Also. Mr. Matriotthas determined that the remainder of theinformation within thesepa* is exempt from release because it pertains to certain inter-or intra-agency communicationsprotectedby the deliberative privilege.Consequently,this informahon is deniedpursuant to 5 U.S.C. 8 552(1XI) aid ( b ) ( 5 ) .
