The holidays are a time for many special celebrations for adults and children. It seems that wherever we go sweet treats are offered. It is important to limit the amount of sweets we consume daily and limit children’s pop intake. Brushing teeth twice daily is essential.

As a reminder, we have several online resources that can help students practices reading and math skills at home. Please ask your child about the

Notes from the Nurse Winter season is just around the corner - which will include colds, coughs and runny noses. If your child needs medication at school, please remember there is a form at school that must be filled out, signed and dated for any medication given for more than one day. Medication must come in the original container, with the exact time to give, and the exact dosage.

Sharing caps, hats or hooded items can aide in the spread of head lice. Remind your child not to share any items that go near the hair. Girls with long hair should wear it pulled back or up and secured while at school. Also remember to perform head checks once a week at home!!!

Please remember that students should exit vehicles at the curb on 9th Street. As the weather turns colder, please encourage your child to have their hats, gloves, and boots on, ready to exit the car when you arrive. For safety’s sake, students should WALK to the building using the sidewalk, being mindful of slippery surfaces. Student safety is our number one priority!

If children don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the chance to build a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers.

What Families Can Do

Build regular routines for bed time and the morning.

Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school.

Don’t permit missing school unless your child is truly sick. Use a thermometer to check for a fever. Remember that stomach aches and headaches may be signs of anxiety.

Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Keep a chart recording your child’s attendance at home. At the end of the week, talk with your child about what you see.

Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Ask a family member, neighbor or another parent for help.

Seek support from school staff or community groups to help with transportation, health problems, or no safe path to school.

Please remember it is important that students arrive to school on time each day. Students should arrive by 8:00 so they can take care of their morning responsibilities and be to class on time. Help your student remember: “Arrive by 8, so you’re not late!” If your child will not be at school for the day, please contact the District Attendance Office before 8:30 am by calling 563-263-7223.

As a general guideline, students will have

outdoor recess if the temperature is above 10 degrees. If your child’s coat is missing, please check our LOST AND FOUND. Also, please

remember to label your child’s outerwear (hats,

gloves, boots, coats) so that if lost, we can easily return belongings to them.
