    Generic name:

    Amlodipine

    Brand name:

    (Norvasc)

    Classification:

    Antihypertensive

    Calcium Channel

    Blocker

    Inhibits the movement

    of calcium ions across

    the membranes of

    cardiac and arterial

    muscle cells; inhibits

    transmembrane

    calcium flow, which

    results in depression of

    impulse formation in

    specialized cardiac

    pacemaker muscles,

    slowing the conduction

    of the cardiac impulse,

    depression of

    myocardial contractility

    and dilation of

    coronary arteries and

    arterioles.

    Generic name:

    citicholineBrand name:

    (Zynapse)

    Classification:

    Neurotonics

    Citicoline activates the

    biosynthesis ofstructural

    phospholipids in the

    neuronal membrane,

    increases cerebral

    metabolism and

    increases the level of

    various

    neurotransmitters,

    including acetylcholine

    and dopamine.

    Citicoline has shown

    neuroprotective effects

    in situations of hypoxia

    and ischemia.

    NURSINGRESPONSIBILITIES

    Generic name:

    metoprololBrand name:

    (Prolol)

    Classification:

    Anti-hypertensivedrugs (beta-blockers)

    *Exerts mainly beta1-

    adrenergic blockingactivity but also blocks

    beta-2 receptors at

    high doses. It

    reversibly and

    competitively combines

    with beta-1 adrenergic

    receptors to block

    sympathetic nerve

    impulses, resulting to

    decreased myocardial

    contractility, heart rate,

    cardiac output and

    myocardial oxygen

    consumption.

    50 mg/tab

    BID

    Indicated to

    hypertension.

    *Contraindicated tokidney and liver failure

    Fatigue

    Dizziness Headache

    Bradycardia

    GI disturbances

    Skin rashes

    Sleep

    disturbances

    Sweating

    Abdominal pain

    Vomiting

    Assess patients

    condition beforetherapy and regularly

    thereafter to monitor

    drug effectiveness

    Monitor vital signs

    specially the BP

    Do not crush or chew

    tablets

    Monitor urine output

    Tell patient to avoid

    taking OTC products

    containing alpha-

    adrenergic stimulants

    (such as nasal

    decongestans, cold

    preparations), alcohol,

    smoking and to limit

    sodium intake.
