2. Nuts and Bolts of Citation and Referencing
a. Business literature (journal articles) - Databases EBSCOhost
1) Select the records you wish to
export to EndNote by clicking
on “Add to folder”
2) Go to your Folder to export
the records to EndNote
In the Folder Contents page
3) Check the records you wish
to export to EndNote
4) Click “Export”
In the new Export Manager
window
5) Select “Direct Export to
EndNote” and click “Save”
Records will be exported into
currently opened or last opened
EndNote Library
ProQuest
1) Select the records you wish
to export to EndNote
2) Click on “Email/Cite/Export”
3) Click on “Export directly to
ProCite, EndNote or
Reference Manager”
Records will be exported into
currently opened or last opened
EndNote Library

b. Newspaper articles - Factiva1) Select the records you wish to
export to EndNote
2) Select “Full Article/Report
plus Indexing”
3) Click on the Save Icon andselect “Article Format”
4) In the new window, go to
File > Save As...
5) Save the document as a Text
File (*.txt) with EncodingUnicode (UFT-8)
Go to your EndNote library:6) Click on the import button
7) Select the text file you’ve just
saved
8) Select “Factiva (DJ)” for the
“Import Option”
9) Click on “Import”
Records will be imported into your
EndNote Library
c. Websites & others – Manual EntryTo add new references manually,
1) Click on the green New
Reference icon
Or
2) Go to References > New
Reference

3) Select Reference Type for new
reference
4) Click in the field to enter your
data (a thin border will appear
around the selected field)
5) Click X to close and save thereference
d. Books & Textbooks – Library Catalogue1) Select Online Search Mode
2) Select Tools > Online Search
3) Do a Quick Search for
Nanyang Tech U and click
“Choose”
4) Search by using Field options
and Boolean Operators to
refine your searches – you
may search using the Call No.of the book under “Any Field”
5) Confirm search results by
clicking “OK”
In the Search Result
7) Select the references you
want
8) Choose the library you want
to copy the references to
