“My son, do notforget my teach-ing, but keep mycommands in yourheart, for they willprolong your lifemany years andbring you pro-sperity. Let loveand faithfulnessnever leave you;bind them aroundyour neck, write
them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a goodname in the sight of God and man.Trust in the Lord with all your heartand lean not on your ownunderstanding.”
This being the first week in the year of2011. I do not know about you, but itseems that time just keeps moving
faster and faster. Where did the time go? Iwas also reminded of the production of themusical Fiddler on the Roof. It specificallyreminded me of one of the songs from the
play Sunrise, Sunset. Time continues tomarch on, and we are challenged toanswer the questions that it brings, andthose challenges will be laden with both"happiness" and "tears." So how will youanswer those questions and challenges?
You could be like a lot of people andmake New Year’s Resolutions though afterlistening to these "Word on the Street"interviews you might wonder if they reallydo any good. I hope that if you made anyresolutions you would do a better job thanthese folks, but the reality is you areprobably not much different. We just gotinto 2011 and I am guessing you arealready struggling. Even so, I would like tooffer you a few goals that I think each of usshould make for 2011. They are found inProverbs 3:1-5
I will get in the Word and stay in theWord. The Bible is annually the best-sellingbook. I wish that being the most sold booktranslated into being the most read book!Unfortunately, I know that is not true. Let’ssee what Proverbs tells us about gettinginto and staying in the Word...
Verse #1 "My son, do not forget my
teaching, but let your heart keep mycommands." We all need to make arenewed effort to be good students ofGod’s Word. We need to be reading it daily. We need to be studying it with others.Which means if you are not coming toSunday school you should start next week?If you cannot be there at 9:30 AM then goat 11:00 AM. You cannot be who Jesuswants you to be if you do not know whatJesus wants you to be. So how do youknow? Where do you find the instructionsfor living a life that pleases the Lord? In thebible! But it’s not enough just to read theWord; you need to be studying the Word.
The author of Proverbs says that "ironsharpens iron" in Proverbs 27:17, whichmeans that you need one another if youtruly want to sharpen your spiritual lives. Ido not mean to diminish the value ofpersonal Bible Study, but I believe it is botharrogant and foolish to believe that you canstudy the Bible alone without anyinteraction with others and get all that theLord wants to reveal to you. You being inBible Study and sharing what God hasshown you might be exactly what someone
else needs to grow in their spiritual lives. Icannot tell you how many times I havelearned important lessons about life andGod’s Word while teaching others.
Look at Verse # 2. ”For they will bringyou many days, a full life, and well-being.”So what does that mean? Can I promiseyou that if you start coming to Sundayschool, Wednesday Bible Study, and getinvolved in a Home Bible Study you will livelonger. Well, no I cannot, but I can promiseyou this: Getting into the Word with otherswill add to your life. There are things aboutlife that you will never learn until you arewilling to make a commitment to faithfullystudying God’s Word. Why not make thatresolution today. I will get serious aboutcommitment to God and others. If therewas one thing that I think is most missingin our culture today it would becommitment. People are not committed toGod, like they should be. Here is a simpleillustration that I have seen develop overthe years:

With the New Year upon us, manysee it as making changes intheir life, making broken
promises for New Year’s resolutions, andtrying new things. But for some, likeClarence Miller, see a “Vision.” InWebster’s Dictionary, vision means “theact of seeing external objects; actualsight.” Another definition is “to see in avision or dream”, that is how ClarenceMiller see’s his vision.
Clarence Miller’s vision is to build aneducational foundation, “The Mission ofthe Thelma Cupitt Brown (TCB) School,”to educate children of all races, ethnics, and creeds to become a better studentand to provide a learning environmentand learning tools for those who desireto learn by fostering the creation of aculture governed by Christian principlesusing interactive small groups, selecteddocumentation, and artistic expressionin a very organized, disciplined, andcontrolled setting.” Clarence Miller says,“There is a noticeable gap in our societybetween the opportunity to learn andthe actual learning that is taking place. With many of us, the gap began in ourchildhood and has continued throughoutany education process with which wehave been involved. It is not clear howthe gap was caused or the rate at whichit is growing. However, it is clear that, ifa different approach to learning is nottaken “the education process” that is inplace will continue to fail to meet theintellectual, emotional, and spiritualobjectives to which most of us aspire.”As I spoke with Mr. Miller, I learned thathis vision was for every individual whoexperiences the activities of this culturevalidated through their actions will beused to help meet the intellectual, emotional, and/or the spiritual objectivesto which most of us aspire.
Through his vision, Miller wants toassist churches in getting the resourcesthat will help their energy cost throughhis daily employment at Ideal Impact. Iasked Mr. Miller how long has he had this
vision and he stated, “As far back as Ican remember, I have attempted to helpindividuals that I have encountered toaspire to be all that I thought that theycould be relative to the talents withwhich I believed they had been blessedand the Vision that God had given them.In time, I was able to do so as aprofession. As time went on, I becamemore and more willing to dowhat I felt I was called to do forlittle or no monetarycompensation. In fact, in recentyears I have become moreconscious of my willingness touse my own financial resourcesto do so. About three monthsago, only one day after speakingwith one of our clients (Rev. Dr.Tim Wilbert, Bible WayCommunity Baptist Church)about his Vision for learning, Iwas blessed with my currentVision.
Mr. Clarence Miller is agraduate of Morgan StateCollege in Baltimore, Marylandand has a Bachelors Degree inMathematics. Clarence Miller also holdsa Masters Degree from University ofDallas in the areas of Management andAdministrative Science.
Clarence Miller served in the UnitedStates Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the82nd Airborne Division. is it time for the Church to
stand up and be
Counted?
Part II
Last week we wrote anarticle pertaining to theChristians and the churches
of God standing against themoral wrongeness which isoccurring in our country, and inthe world.
God is Spirit, and he doesnot have arms, feet, hands, andphysical being as we have, butGod’s Spirit lives within us.That’s why when we sin, or when wewrong someone else our spiritualconscious claws at our throat, because weare sealed with the Holy Spirit which leadsand guides us in all truth.
Now, I grant you that we as Christiansdo not always adhere to the guiding of theHoly Spirit, because we will on mostoccasions let things get out of handcompletely before we are moved to do oract upon it. That should not happen, because not only are we Christians, but weare also citizens with a free voice in a freesociety. We should be eager to up hold thelaws and rules of the almighty God.
The Bible makes it very plain, that weshould obey God rather than man. Now, Iknow that God said obey all secular laws, because He himself is the author of all lawsand regulations throughout the world inorder to save us from ourselves, but lawssometimes got over execrated bylawmakers to exploit themselves, andthat’s where the trouble starts.
Look at what’s happening around us.Number one – public enemy number one:Same sex marriages. Number two: legalabortion (Women have the right to do withher body as she pleases).
Neither one of these are moralstandards of God. This country is supposedto be founded and based upon theprincipals of God. There are more
Christians in America than in any otherCountry on the globe. If we wanted to do
so we could make a change inmany ungodly laws if wewould just stand up and becounted as God’s servantsagainst out right ungodlynesslaws and rules in this country.
Take number one forinstance: Same sex marriagesthis is absolutely against God’slaw and creation. God createdAdam and eve not Adam andSteve. God created man andwoman. What makes this sobad is that it cancels out thefirst commandment that Godgave to Adam and Eve(replenish the Earth). Two
men or two women cannot replenishanything but other homosexuals like them, because other people who are weak in thatarea will pattern after that lifestyle whichare before them.
Number two: Abortion is legalizedmurder of a child. How can any lawgoverning body anywhere uphold a law ofthis kind of inhumane distraction? Herbody does not belong to her. Life begins atconcievement not the next few months, ornot even the next day, because Godhimself has already created that particularlife before He formed it in the seed of man.
Saying all this Bro. Turner, what canChristians do? Well, you saw gaysmarching and filling the streets with signs. You saw just the other day that streetswere filled with people protesting AbortionLaws. They want to kill babies legally inorder to live without shame orresponsibilities of having that child. Someof the same people who are protesting thatlaw brought shame to their mother, butthat mother lived with the shame ratherthan aborting her child because it was theright thing to do.
We could create the largest lobbyingcommittee in every state at the same timeand lobby our statement and purpose andpresence in every law governing office inthe land. Simply because there are moreChristians. There are more people thatbelieve in God than there are nonebelievers, plus people who are just goodby nature that will be with us.
These marches and lobbingcommittees would go over in a big way ifnational leaders would lead out front.People like Jessie Jackson, T.D. Jakes, BillyGraham, Jerry Farwell, William J. Shaw(NBC Inc.), Charles Stanley, ChuckSwindall, etc. If this would happen therewould be no force that could stand up to it.God Himself would see to it, because thiswould give God feet, hands. and legs inthis human society. Let us not forget toread our Bibles, and may God bless youreal good, and may He ever keep you inHis loving care.

There are only a few moredays to go! If you arereading this afterDecember 25th, Christmashas past. Why isDecember 25th so special? What really is this day wecall Christmas?
The early churchdidn't give much thoughtto the birth of Jesus. Ofthe four Gospels onlyMatthew and Luke evenmention His birth, andthese accounts are
relatively brief. Certainly, the emphasis of theGospels was on Jesus' ministry, death, andresurrection. And after Jesus ascended toHeaven, the focus of the church was on living forHim, sending out His message, and waiting forHis return.
No one is really sure when Jesus was born. The first recorded celebration didn't occur until200 years after His birth, and it wasn't until theyear 330 that the birth of Christ was assigned toDecember 25th. Some say Jesus was actuallyborn in September or October and others aresure He was born in March or April (in fact, a casehas been made for His birth in each of the twelvemonths!). But it's generally agreed that, due tothe relatively colder weather, December was anunlikely time for the birth of our Savior. So whatreally is Christmas?
Christmas is a day to remember the mostprofound event in the history of the world. Onthat first Christmas (whenever it was), God cameto earth to live among us! He was born into themost humble circumstances, grew and taught usHis truths, died on a cross for our sin, and wasraised to be with The Father; all so we might livewith Him for eternity.
December 25th is a day to celebrate withquiet reflection, as Mary "treasured up all thesethings and pondered them in her heart" (Luke2:19). It is also a day to celebrate with greatrejoicing, as the shepherds "returned, glorifyingand praising God for all the things they had heardand seen" (Luke 2:20). The world has tried toremove Christ and insert many activities into thisseason which do not glorify God. But this neednot hinder our worship. We have the ability toturn away the evil and embrace that which ishonoring and good.
We can (and should) glorify God andcelebrate the gift of our Savior every daythroughout the year. But let's take theopportunity to make this season and this dayspecial. Let's celebrate with a focused andthankful heart, and I pray you made December25th a blessed day of remembrance.

A Day of Remembrance Perhaps you have some unresolvedissues that came with you into theyear 2011. I’m talking about
things in your lifethat you feel youcan’t get thevictory over. Well, let’s try the recipeand formula thatMoses gave thechildren of Israelin Exodus chapter14. As the childrenof Israel stoodbefore the begingof red sea, theEgyptian armywas behind them,
to destroy them; Moses gave themthree steps to victory. Exodus 14:13;
1. Fear not, 2. Stand still, 3. Andsee the salvation of the Lord. Thechildren of Israel obeyed, and youknow the rest of the story. Yes! Godcame through for them. You to canexperience the benefit of three steps tovictory. Fear not, stand still and see thesalvation of the Lord. I was told thatthere are 365 “Fear Nots” in the wordof God. If true, there is a Fear Nots foreach day of the year. Try it and God willdeliver you too!
Dear Dr. Hollie,As far as self-induceddrama goes, I feel prettycomfortable saying that Ikeep mine down to anabsolute minimum.
However, there isone area in my life thatgets me so riled up, Iturn into the psychochick that every manmust fear. Anytime myhusband gets a femalefriend, I lose it. I havebeen working on thisproblem of mine formany years now, and it hasn’t goneaway, though it has gotten just alittle bit better. It’s gotten better inthat I don’t clown so badly in thebeginning. In the beginning of theirfriendship, I recognize the un-founded jealous feelings (un-founded because he has nevercheated on me or done me wrong),but I force myself to just ignorethose feelings and deal with thesituation. But then the more myhusband mentions the lady’s name inconversation, the more I hate it.Then I find myself reading texts, andemails, and I admit I have neverfound anything wrong. So now he
has this new friend that he workswith, and after behavinglike my normal self, I foundout that they rode togetherin his car to lunch. I blewup. Cussing, throwing andbreaking things. He doesn’tunderstand any of it, andfrankly neither do I. So Idon’t know how to explainto him why it bothers me somuch. Maybe you can help.
Thanks. Jealous Heart
Dear Jealous Heart,This may be something
that you cannot work out on yourown. I would suggest you get intotalk therapy. It doesn’t seem like youjust have an issue with jealousy, butalso anger and rage. If I had to giveimmediate advice, I’d say stopreading his texts, emails and anyother methods in which you might besnooping. If you have some self-talkthat works for you, start using it, but,all in all, you need help before youdestroy a healthy marriage.

Impact, Wes McDaniel Clarence Miller canfocus also on churches and help savethem money on the energy that thechurch will use. Wes McDaniel says that achurch is intended to be a house ofworship and place of comfort, but in manyaspects, it must be run as a business. Inorder to provide services for parishioners, funds for ministry and pay operatingexpenses, the budget must be properlymanaged. Today, nearly everyorganization is facing the challenge ofmeeting operational, personnel andfinancial demands. For many churches, anew revenue source exists right inside thebuilding. By implementing a proactiveenergy efficiency plan, combined withenergy education training, churches canyield surplus funds, obtain needed facilityimprovements and have a positiveenvironmental impact. Because ClarenceMiller is a man with a heart for God andchurches, he can honestly go to a church, give them an evaluation on their energy, and look them straight in the eye and tellthem if Ideal Impact can help them ornot. Many businesses will not do that, they just take your money weather theycan help you or not. Clarence Miller wantsto help and educate the church on whatservices they need to save energy.
Because Clarence Miller is a man with
a heart for God and the church, he canhonestly go to a church, give them anevaluation on their energy, and look themstraight in the eye and tell them whetheror not Ideal Impact can help them.Clarence Miller wants to educate thechurch on what services they need tosave energy.
I asked Clarence Miller where did hesee himself in 10 years with his vision andwith Ideal Impact, he said, “In ten years,I can see myself serving in the role ofboth organizations responsible forthankfully communicating the status ofthe organizations, promoting the Vision ofboth organizations, and soliciting theinvolvement of those who believe thatthey can be of value in accomplishing theobjectives of those organizations.” With avision like that and the gift that God setfor Mr. Clarence Miller’s willingness to helpothers, he is off to a good start.

The NFL seasoncome to a halt. The Cowboys
didn’t make the play-offs, Duh!!!!!.Progress maybe,play- offs no.
As of this date theCowboys don’t havea head coach.
Speculation is that by weeks end JasonGarrett will be named head coach. There isone glitch, the Rooney rule has to beobeyed. One minority coach has to beinterviewed before anyone can be hired.
Every since Jason was named interimcoach, some people thought he shouldn’tbe considered, because he was part of thatWade Phillips crew that couldn’t get ittogether.
First I would like to apologize for callinghim “Brain Dead Red”. If he proved anything he proved he’s not brain dead. Firsthe proved that this team as inept as theyare, did have enough life to finish theseason stronger than they started it. Theleague proved they weren’t as talented asthe rest of us first thought. Jason got themin an NFL frame of mind where they hadbeen in an ESPN frame of mind. Nodiscipline, no fight, just get paid on Tuesdayand embarrass themselves on Sunday.
When Jason was an assistant to Wade hecouldn’t do anything without Wade’sapproval. Wade didn’t want them to havecontact and it showed on Sunday. He had to follow instructions, just as Tom
Landry and Vince Lombardi did when theywere assistants under Jim Lee Howell. Noone in New York knew they would be thelegendary coaches they were until they goton their own. Jim Lee Howell got all thecredit for the Giants success; just as BillParcells did here. No one knew that SeanPeyton could win a Super Bowl when hewas an assistant here or with the Giants. Asa matter of fact, while with the Giants, helost his play calling ability to the headcoach. That’s not a big endorsement for ahead coach. When Todd Haley was theWide Receiver’s Coach he didn’t display anability to be a head coach in his dealingwith T.O. and the receiving corp. But hisKansas City Chiefs are in the play-offs neverthe less.
Sometimes Back up’s and Assistants arenever given a chance. Johnny Unitas wascut by the Pittsburgh Steelers until GeorgeShaw broke his ankle with the Colts and asthey say… the rest is history. Franco Harriswas not the man at Penn State.
The best thing Jason Garrett has goingfor him, he’s been tutored by some of thesame people that Jerry gets advice from;Jimmie Johnson among others. Jason has awealth of ex teammates and Assistantcoaches that’ll go to bat for him.
The coaches that most people want:John Gruden, Bill Cowher. Gruden went toa team built by Tony Dungy. Bill Cowherwas in Pittsburgh an awful long time beforehe won. Plus Cowher won’t work here he’slike Parcells; won’t let his coaches talk, andhe’s not gonna say too much himself.

Happy NewYear to all ofour readers
we trust that youhave taken time tothank God forallowing you to seethe beginning ofanother year. Ourchurch schoollesson “I am YourRedeemer” Isaiah4 4 : 2 1 - 2 6reminded us that
whatever we have achieved in life evenlife itself comes from God, it is he thatmade us and not we ourselves. Godreminded Judah and Israel that that hemade them and would not forget them. How wonderful it is to serve a God thatis so high and holy and yet desire tomaintain a relationship with us. Whenwe are at our worst he still loves us. Wedo not deserve it but because he hasplaced his love upon us because of hisson Jesus, he is quick to forgive andrestore. The lesson taught us that onlyGod really know our future; he declaredthat he expose false prophets as liarsand make fools of fortune-tellers and hecause the would be wise to give bad
advice, proving them to be fools. Wemust be careful who we lend our ears toand who we place our trust in. Ourmorning message was delivered byPastor L.T.Morgan from the subject “Theland of no more” Rev 21:1-7. The churchis not just something we do; it is about ajourney that has a destination, a placecalled heaven. We must emphases theword “place” because there are thosethat would have us believe that heavenis only a state of mind but I will takeJesus word for it when he said “I go toprepare a “Place” for you”. I also believethat he will come again to take his bride(the church) to that place he hasprepared for the believer.God bless!

The man who is responsible forbringing the Annual State FairClassic to Dallas is back! And it
ain’t football. This time he has abasketball game to rival all basketballgames! The basketball game pitslongtime football rivals - Prairie View A &M Panthers against their arch footballrivals, the Grambling State Tigers. It’scalled 4 the Love of Basketball! State FairClassic promoter Al Wash has added anew twist to the game. Not only will themen of Prairie View and Grambling beballing, but so will the Lady Panthers andthe Lady Tigers! Yep, this time the ladieswill be vying for bragging rights! Thegame will take place on Saturday,January 15th at the Ellis Davis FieldHouse located at 9191 South Polk here inDallas. And of course, I had to ask Alwhy basketball and why Prairie View andGrambling? Al says he knows peoplemay be thinking why is it always aboutPrairie View and Grambling? His answeris simple. There are a lot of studentathletes from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area
attending Prairie and Grambling. Andbecause whenever we talk about footballand basketball in this area, we veryrarely talk about predominantly Blackcolleges. We always talk about SMU,TCU and UNT. This is Al’s way of givingathletes from this area, the exposureand recognition they would otherwisenever get. I always have to ask Al whohe thinks will win. And of course, henever tells me. “I’m sure there will beseveral superstars to emerge from thisgame.” All roads lead to Ellis Davis fieldhouse Saturday, January 15th! What away to begin your MLK weekend! Theladies tip off at 5:30 pm and the menfollow at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00for students and $15.00 for adults. Ifyou wait until game day to get yourtickets it will cost you $20.00. You canpurchase tickets at ticketmaster.com andat all TICKETMASTER and WilliamsChicken locations. Or you can charge byphone at 1-800-745-3000. For moreinformation on Saturday’s game you canvisit www.ALWE.COM. Al says, “It’sBlack College basketball at its best!Don’t miss it!”
