FR. PATRICK’S MESSAGE TO THE PARISH

It’s Lent! It’s that time of year where we fast from things that we enjoy or things that we know are not bringing us closer to God in order to get close to him. Fasting is essential to our Lenten practices however if our prayer life is not growing and increasing, then our fasting is not as effective.

A very powerful tradition in our Catholic faith is the meditational prayers of the Stations of the Cross. As Catholics, most of us are familiar with the stations but sometimes we shy away from praying them because it can be a little long or seem to "drag." The stations are long and it can be hard for us to stay focused, but that is a tiny little sacrifice that we can offer the Lord in order to be united and to draw closer to him In His passion.

It is crucial for us to meditate really deeply on the passion of Christ. The more we meditate and consider just how much Jesus endured for you and I, the easier it will be for us to respond to him with love and dedication. The stations provide for us the opportunity to almost relive and enter into what Jesus endured for us so make it a point at least once this lent to come to stations and enter into the incredible passion that Jesus endured for love of you and me! .بالضعف، باالنهيار؟ ولكن يجب ان ال نستسلم على مثال بيسوع المسيح

:لقد تركزت تجارب الشيطان على ثالث نواحي مهمة في حياة االنسان والتي يضعف فيها

(.3: 9متى ) ."…إن كنت ابن هللا فقل أن تصير هذه الحجارة خبزا" :الرغبات الجسدية

(.9: 9متى ." )……الق بنفسك من االعلى" :القوة والكبرياء

ما : ولكن نتسأل! نرى يسوع ينتصر على كل هذه التجارب بقوة ايمانه، فنحن نستمد منه هذه القوة، لكي نتغلب على التجارب التي تمر في حياتنا

المقصود من هذه التجارب؟ ولماذا يجرب يسوع؟

ولكن هؤالء االنبياء خضعوا لالمتحان حالهم حال سائر البشر، من اجل . ارسل اللـه في العهد القديم الكثير من االنبياء ليحملوا رسالته الى الشعب المختار

التجربة في ذبيحة اسحق، وقد عبر االمتحان، ابراهيم وهو أبو المؤمنين هكذا دخل. اثبات جدارتهم وقابليتهم فيحمل الرسالة السماوية بإخالص الى البشر

.من خالل طاعته للـه

زلة صغيرة في . اي الذي كان متعودا على مكالمة اللـه، ونقل شكاوي ابناء اسرائيل للـه، فشل في اطاعة اللـه اطاعة كاملة موسى المعروف بكليم اللـه،

.تنفيذ اوامر اللـه كان عقابه ان ال يدخل ارض الميعاد بل ان يراها عن بعد قبل مماته

هو ايضا خضع لالمتحان، واراد الهرب من الرسالة التي اوكلها اللـه له بالذهاب الى نينوى ودعوتهم للتوبة، وعقابا على هروبه النبي، في قصة يونان

.انبياء اخرون كثيرون خضعوا لمثل هذه االمتحانات مثل ايوب الصديق…ابتلعه الحوت ثالث ايام، ليتوب ويعود من جديد

ولهذا عندما سألوه التالميذ لماذا لم نستطيع . يوم وليلة 92لكنه تغلب عليه بقوة ايمانه، بالصوم والصالة يسوع نفسه، لم يسلم هو ايضا من هذا االمتحان؟

!اخراج الشيطان من احد االشخاص؟ قال هذا الجنس ال يخرج اال بالصوم والصالة

وفي التجارب الثالث يستشهد يسوع على غرار . لقد تمكن يسوع من االنتصار على الشيطان، لسبب جوهري، وهو طاعته التامة إلرادة ابيه السماوي

The Power of Progress

Matthew Kelly

For twenty-five years I've been talking about God's

ultimate dream for us to become the-best-version-of-

ourselves. One of the things that I've realized, and one of

the things I speak a lot about in Perfectly Yourself, is the idea

of progress, not perfection. In some ways, the idea of be-

ing the-best-version-of-yourself, I've realized, can be very

intimidating to people. It can be . . . "Well, that's . . . I'm not going to get there; it's too far. You're asking

too much of me."

And so, if you follow my work over the twenty-five years, if you listen to the live presentations and read the

various books over those two and a half decades, you see me using, yes, using the central phrase, but also

using a lot more the idea of becoming a-better-version-of-yourself, and the idea that each day is an opportu-

nity to become a-better-version-of-yourself.

We become a-better-version-of-ourselves each day by reflecting on our days and saying, "OK, where are the

moments where I was the-best-version-of-myself, and what was it that helped me do that? What set me up

for that?" But also to look back on the day and say, "OK, in what moments wasn't I the -best-version-of-

myself? What set that up? What caused that?” Did we not get enough sleep? Did we eat too much food? Did

we drink too much soda, or too much alcohol, or too much . . . What was it? Be aware; have this incredible

awareness. What was it that prevented us from being the-best-version-of-ourselves in that moment?

God has this incredible dream: he wants you to become the-best-version-of-yourself. And he wants you to accomplish that by becoming a-better-version-of-yourself every day. Which is why, as we make this journey through Lent together, as you read Perfectly Yourself, you're going to see over and over this theme of progress, not perfection. Progress, not perfection. Because the reality is, we're imperfect beings striving for perfection, and we have to learn to celebrate our progress.

FOCUS: Change doesn’t equal progress. Progress is any change, however small, that makes someone more perfectly himself or herself.

ACT: Start asking yourself this question regularly: Am I making progress? If you’re reading Perfectly Yourself, read

pages 18–21. (Page numbers correspond with the paperback version of Perfectly Yourself.)

PRAY: Jesus, help me to respond to your challenge to actively seek what you want in every area of my life.

II. THE LAY FAITHFUL

Participation in Christ's kingly office

910 "The laity can also feel called, or be in fact called, to

cooperate with their pastors in the service of the ecclesial

community, for the sake of its growth and life. This can

be done through the exercise of different kinds of

ministries according to the grace and charisms which the

Lord has been pleased to bestow on them."448

911 In the Church, "lay members of the Christian faithful

can cooperate in the exercise of this power [of

governance] in accord with the norm of law."449 and so

the Church provides for their presence at particular

councils, diocesan synods, pastoral councils; the exercise

in solidum of the pastoral care of a parish, collaboration

in finance committees, and participation in ecclesiastical

tribunals, etc.450

912 The faithful should "distinguish carefully between

the rights and the duties which they have as belonging to

the Church and those which fall to them as members of

the human society. They will strive to unite the two

harmoniously, remembering that in every temporal affair

they are to be guided by a Christian conscience, since no

human activity, even of the temporal order, can be

withdrawn from God's dominion."451

913 "Thus, every person, through these gifts given to

him, is at once the witness

and the living instrument of

the mission of the Church

itself 'according to the

measure of Christ's

bestowal."'452

III. THE CONSECRATED

LIFE

914 "The state of life which is

constituted by the profession

of the evangelical counsels,

while not entering into the

hierarchical structure of the Church, belongs undeniably

to her life and holiness."453

Evangelical counsels, consecrated life

915 Christ proposes the evangelical counsels, in their

great variety, to every disciple. the perfection of charity,

to which all the faithful are called, entails for those who

freely follow the call to consecrated life the obligation of

practicing chastity in celibacy for the sake of the

Kingdom, poverty and obedience. It is the profession of

these counsels, within a permanent state of life

recognized by the Church, that characterizes the life

consecrated to God.454

916 The religious state is thus one way of experiencing a

"more intimate" consecration, rooted in Baptism and

dedicated totally to God.455 In the consecrated life,

Christ's faithful, moved by the Holy Spirit, propose to

follow Christ more nearly, to give themselves to God

who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of

charity in the service of the Kingdom, to signify and

proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.456

One great tree, with many branches

917 "From the God-given seed of the counsels a

wonderful and wide-spreading tree has grown up in the

field of the Lord, branching out into various forms of the

religious life lived in solitude or in community. Different

religious families have come into existence in which

spiritual resources are multiplied for the progress in

holiness of their members and for the good of the entire

Body of Christ."457

Please join our Lent program Burning Hearts: Lives of the Saints with veneration of their

relics, every Wednesday at 7pm at the church hall.

Mother of God English choir is looking for members to join them, if interested please speak

to the choir director after mass.

All priests of our diocese will be on a retreat on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Therefore there will be no coming masses during those three days.
