“Hoekom sukkel ek so? het ek baiekeer vir myself gevra? Ek het baievasgehaak.”
Hy vertel egter dat ’n wyse sê-ding,
“Wisdom for life” asook ’n spesifiekepreek hom laat nadink het oor wathy kan vermag.
Sy uitvindsel het so goed gewerk
My gesond-
koop omdat hy opdaardie tydstip indie nood was virgeld.
Gaan loer ge-rus in, of belKiewiets by 078 751 9381.

Somerset West resident Allan Smith spotted this puff adder near the ablutionfacilities at Radloff Park last Monday. A professional was called in to removeand relocate the snake. Snake season is upon us and Helderberg residentsshould take special care at this time of the year, warns local snake removalspecialist Wayne Furno.“Spring is always a good time for snakes to be out,”says Furno. The first heat experienced in spring is typically when snakes comeout of their winter hibernation period. Helderberg residents have reported severalpuff adder sightings on Facebook, particularly in Radloff Park and near BeaumontPrimary School. If you have been bitten by a snake, it is imperative that youseek emergency medical care immediately as snake bites can be fatal. Goto the nearest hospital or call an ambulance on 10177. If dogs are bitten,it is best to slowly walk them or carry them to your car, so as to slow downthe spread of venom, according to Radloff Park Dog Walkers’ information officerLouise Spagnuolo. Get the animal to a vet as soon as possible. For snakeremoval phone Wayne Furno on 082 874 9811. PHOTO: ALLAN SMITH
Composting project yieldsimpressive resultsThe roll-out of composting containers forresidents to use at their homes, as well aseducation on how to use them, resulted inthe diversion of significant amounts of or-ganic waste from landfill sites, and wasmetwith enthusiasm fromall areaswhereit was tested.
As such, it is recommended that the projectbe considered for wider implementation in thecity over the next two financial years.
A feasibility study for a home compostingprogramme was undertaken during 2013. Evi-dence suggests there are significant potentialbenefits to wide-scale composting, both envi-ronmental and social. According to recent sta-tistics, an average total of 21 kg of householdorganic waste from kitchens and gardens perhousehold enters the waste stream monthly.
A total of 677 individual participants fromfour different areas took part in the study, andselected to be as representative as possible ofthe economic makeup of the city. In addition, two schools and one community organisationinvolved in food gardening were also selectedto test the viability of collective composting.
Participants were provided with home com-posting containers and educational material, and requested to measure the volumes ofkitchen and soft garden organic waste divert-ed to their home composting containers dur-
ing the period from March to November 2013.The results of the study revealed an active
rate of participation in the programme of 91%,showing a high level of interest in organicwaste diversion programmes.
In total, more than 38 tons of household or-ganic waste was recorded as being divertedfrom landfill at an average of about 16 kg perhousehold per month. This figure is based onthe average of 41% participant feedback datareporting per month.
In terms of community-based organic wastedrop-off sites, a total of 13 kg (per compostingcontainer per month) of organic waste was di-verted. Inadditionquestionnairesrevealedupto 90% of home composters surveyed (616 ini-tial respondents) used to dispose of their or-ganic waste into the wheelie bin, but by thefinal questionnaire 78% of the 239 respondentswho responded were composting at home.
