Put a spring inyour step and enterTHE12thPaarl SpringWalkon27October is the flagship communi-ty fund-raising event of the Dra-kenstein Palliative Hospice,which this year celebrates 21 ye-ars of service to the community.

The Spring Walk, which starts atPaarl Rugby Club, offers a day of funwalking through some of the mostscenic and historic areas of Paarl,culminating in an opportunity to so-cialise, enjoy the food stalls and localentertainment at the Paarl RugbyClub.

The walk is the biggest communi-ty-family social walk in the Cape Wi-nelands, and annually attracts morethan 1000 participants.

Four feature walks are includedthis year:

) The 3 km kiddies’ walk costs R20and caters for the mothers, babies inprams, and active toddlers (startingat the Paarl Rugby Club).

) The 8 km family fun walk willtake the walkers along the Berg Ri-ver through the Paarl Arboretumand Klein Drakenstein. Tickets costR30.

) The 10 km spring walk costs R35for licensed walkers while non-licen-sed walkers pay R55. It is a timedevent catering for the more serioussocial walker and officiated by Bo-land Athletics.

Teams of 5 and 10 per team are en-couraged to enter. The best dressedteam and the team with the most‘gees’ will also be recognised.

) The 22 km mountain walk costs

R140 (walkers enter in pairs) and ta-kes you from the rugby club, up inHout Street through the scenic PaarlMountain Reserve via Jan PhillipsDrive with breathtaking views, re-turning via Hout Street. Walkers en-ter in pairs and compete for the Tom-my and André Goliath Floating Tro-phy. The Goliaths initiated the walkin 2000 with 281 walkers.

This year the organisers hope toattract 2 000 participants and every-body is encouraged to get involved.
