Árpád Daradics’s unmistakable gestures, his works are braving with time.

Time does not have impact on Árpád Daradics’s unmistakable gestures, on his

works. Something inscrutable, a secret point always remains in them, which

may result from his basic creative temper, whose main source is reminiscence,

the visual memory itself. His philosophy regarding pictures is rather intuitive

than speculative, his shapes and forms are not purchased or borrowed, but in

most of the cases they derive from his genetic memory, from the elaboration

of his experiences. The particularity of his pictures often derive from these

childlike intuitions, which seek to give a reassuring answer not only to the

author itself, but also to the world, who rather believes in the unseen, in some

sort of a fairy tale, than in everyday reality. Therefor the subjects of his works

are also filled up with different metaphorical meanings, suggesting that the

real has utterly been lost in our artificial world. Because not the objects, people

and ideas change over time, but the way we see, observe, and understand

them.

It belongs to the particular method of Arpad Daradics to overset time’s

calculation. He always smiles cheekily when he dares time. His works catch

the viewer’s gaze with their aggressive irony and their thought-provoking

ideas. They are carrying messages which tell us ironic and critical opinions

about our conditions in our past and present world.

Because „objects, people, and ideas do not change over time, what changes

is the way we see, observe, and understand them” – claim others when

quoting Daradics.

What remains from this entire world: the images. Images take control over

the ideas. Ideology is gradually and generally changing into imagology.

Because „objects, people, and ideas do not change over time, what changes

is the way we see, observe, and understand them” – says Daradics.

INTERVENTIONS is not an ordinary exhibition. For the reason that the

introduction text isn’t ordinary either. That’s also an intervention, one of its

kind: intervening using Daradics’s modified toolbar. The self-image of the

artist has been edited by us, colored with inset text bodies, a process that

could be continued with the systematic rewriting/reformulating of the

memorable thoughts that belong to the Daradics-reception, with a gesture

of appropriation. But we won’t do that. We pass over this role and place to

another intervention.

On the opening occasion the exhibition will be turned to a real space for

interventions. The invited media artist Adela Muntean will put in action

some of her funny characters from her video installation against the pictures

of Daradics. We are looking forward to see what the response will be.

The toolkit of the artistic intervention is very wide, even it could range till

the work of art is being destroyed. Of course, in this case we are not planning

this. But at the same time we are happy to invite to a digital intervention

those from the audience who possess a suitable device. If they don’t, we will

help them.

The opening joins the event of Europe’s first networked exhibition, so on the

same day the gallery will hold excitements for the whole evening.

6PM YOUR LOCAL TIME (6PM YLT) is a networked, distributed, one night

contemporary art event taking place simultaneously in different locations,

coordinated from one central venue and documented online via a web

application. After a beta test successfully organized in the United Kingdom in

October 2014, the format will show its full potential on July 22nd, when 100+

participants in 23 European countries and 4 different time zones will open their

exhibits at the same time, documenting them in real time on the web platform

6pmyourlocaltime.com, the event’s primary venue. Participants and their

audiences are invited to take pictures and videos and share them on Twitter and

Instagram using the hashtag #6pmeu. The image feed will be transmitted in real

time to www.6pmyourlocaltime.com.

(6PM YLT – Presentation).

So, this is the time for interventions, where the bloody-red of Daradics is

more frequently turning into yellow or blue. Remember: the setting is hardly

changing, only the glasses are constantly replaced.

Daradics’s pictures have already occupied their places in the endless hall of

time. Right now, panda bears are watching them. And all of them are waiting

for their teleportation at 6pm on July 22.

In the video installation of Adela Muntean we can follow a performative gesture made in the public space of Ikea. The artist playfully draws attention on the artificiality, mass

production and the consumerist emotional exploitation. The spectators are silent witnesses of the events, finding themselves in complicity where the doer commits his deed.

The work creates a link between the video medium and consumption habits, between mass production and everyday gestures. Although, nowadays the exhibited televisions

represent a bygone, regarding the projection of images, an almost obsolete medium, their connection via video fragments highlights the ideas concerning the large-scale

serial production and the typical communication of the advertising industry. (Edith Lázár)

“Objects, people, and ideas do not change over time, what changes is the way we see, observe, and understand them”, believes Arpad Daradics. The artist works with drawing,

computer, photography, painting, sculpture and site works also. His graphics fascinate the spectator trough their aggressive irony, and thought-provoking ideas. The artist

uses old photographs from the past two centuries, and became known in 2002 with his Red Stories. The designs of bright paint on darker backgrounds create themes by

shocking the viewer with the intensity of emotions it radiates. Daradics’s works are full of irony that strongly judges past problems and their solutions, yet unmasks our false

inner models of the past. (Zoltán Vécsi Nagy)
