Any Qualified Provider

On July 19th2011 DoH announced that Adult Hearing Services in the

Community would be one of the first services to start the process of Any

Qualified Provider

All healthcare providersincluding NHS and independent organisations,charities and social enterprises, which meet the qualifying requirements will

be able to deliver some NHS services.

An independent report (Which, October 2010) into private hearing aid

dispensers rated 43 % of firms visited by an expert panel as poor.

We have a volunteer who is happy to go to peoples homes.

Very often this is to help people to get to grips with fitting the ear

mould

When to refer to Audiology?

Adult hearing loss:If the clinical question is Could this pt benefit

from a hearing aid?

Hearing loss with some associated tinnitus is acceptable

We do not offer an adult audiometry service to GPs at present

Vestibular:We do NOT currently accept direct referrals for

vestibular assessments or rehabilitation

When to refer to Audiology?

Paediatrics:If the main concerns is hearing please refer directly toAudiology, including suspected middle ear effusion.

If you also require advice re management of recurrent ear infectionsplease refer to ENT

We accept referrals where there is concern regarding a childs

development of speech and language in order to rule out hearing

loss as a cause for delayed speech
