Kort annulleret / Charts cancelled

Den 21. oktober 2020 blev der, i Søkortrettelser 42 2020, annonceret udgivelsen af 4 nye undervisningskort. Heriblandt en ny udgave af Kort 102U (2020), som skulle erstatte det allerede eksisterende undervisningskort 102U (2014). Den nye udgave er primært udgivet for at give muligheden for, at der kan undervises i de nye rutesystemer i Skagerrak og Kattegat. For at tilgodese undervisere og kursister, som stod over for at give og modtage undervisning baseret på Kort 102U (2014), blev Kort 102U (2014) ikke annulleret samtidigt med offentliggørelsen af nyt Kort 102U (2020). Kort 102U (2014) er med denne meddelelse hermed annulleret.

On October 21, 2020 4 new educational charts were published in Chart Corrections 42 2020. One of these was a new edition of chart 102U (2020), which was to replace the already existing educational chart 102U (2014). The new edition was released primarily to let educator educate in the new routing systems in Skagerrak and Kattegat. In order to accommodate teachers and course participants, who were faced with giving and receiving instruction based on chart 102U (2014), chart 102U (2014) was not canceled at the same time as the publication of new chart 102U (2020). With this message, the educational chart 102U (2014), is hereby cancelled.

Vestgrønlandsk farvand - introduktion af ENC med basis indhold

Geodatastyrelsen (GST) har ansvaret for søopmåling og søkortlægning af de grønlandske farvande.

GST har de seneste 20 år foretaget søopmåling af farvandet langs den vestgrønlandske kyst med moderne teknik (flerstråle-ekkolod). GST har derved opbygget en større beholdning af dybdedata af høj kvalitet.

Sideløbende har GST de seneste 10 år arbejdet på at skabe dækning af farvandet langs den vestgrønlandske kyst med både papirsøkort og elektroniske søkort (ENC) af høj kvalitet. Formålet med indsatsen har været at erstatte gamle papirsøkort med nye papirsøkort og skabe ENC-dækning.

Indsatsen har bevirket, at der foreløbigt er skabt kystnær ENC-dækning fra Sisimiut til syd for Nuuk. ENC-dækning af den vestgrønlandske kyst nord for Sisimiut og syd for Nuuk udestår dermed endnu.Størsteparten af kyststrækningen nord for Sisimiut og syd for Nuuk er således dækket af gamle papirsøkort og ENC-dækning mangler.

GST´s strategi i forhold til etablering af dækning med nye søkort har fra starten været, at nyudgivelse af papirsøkort og ENC sker samtidigt. Strategien har flere fordele. Den sikrer blandt andet, at der er overensstemmelse mellem hydrografi (dybdeinformationer), kystlinje m.m. i nyudgivne papirsøkort og ENC.

Strategien er imidlertid ressourcekrævende. Der udestår stadig 6 års arbejde, før der er etableret fuld dækning af den vestgrønlandske kyst med nyudgivne papirsøkort og ENC.

Hvis strategien fastholdes uændret, vil det indebære, at en mængde dybdedata af høj kvalitet først bringes i anven-delse som grundlag for navigation om adskillige år. De kommende 6 år forfølger GST fortsat strategien med samtidig nyudgivelse af papirsøkort og ENC. GST har imidlertid besluttet at supplere strategien med et nyt tiltag, nemlig udgivelse af ENC med basis indhold.

Disse ENC med basis indhold vil med udgangen af 2023 skabe fuld, kystnær ENC-dækning nord for Sisimiut og syd for Nuuk, dvs. den del af den vestgrønlandske kyststrækning, hvor der for nuværende ikke er ENC-dækning.Disse ENC med basis indhold vil blive udgivet og opdateret på lige fod med de øvrige ENC fra GST. De sædvanlige distributionskanaler for ENC vil blive anvendt.I disse ENC med basis indhold indarbejdes både en nøjagtig kystlinje og dybdedata fra ny søopmåling.

Formålet med tiltaget er således at sikre, at skibsfarten hurtigere får ENC-adgang og dermed mulighed for at navigere på basis af satellitnavigation samt ECDIS og med understøttelse af dybdeinformationer genereret på grundlag af dybdedata fra nyere søopmåling.

Det kan være vanskeligt at skelne ENC med basis indhold fra ENC med fuldt indhold. Der er nemlig en række lighedspunkter. Der er dog også punkter, hvor ENC med basis indhold adskiller sig fra ENC med fuldt indhold. Punkter, som navigatører skal være opmærksomme på.

Introduktionen af ENC med basis indhold skaber desuden en række uoverensstemmelser på tværs af søkortpro-dukter. Navigatører skal være opmærksomme på disse uoverensstemmelser.

West Greenland waters - introduction of ENC with limited content

The Danish Geodata Agency (GST) is responsible for the surveying and mapping of Greenlandic waters.

For the past 20 years, GST has been surveying the waters along the coast of West Greenland using modern techno-logy (multi-beam echo sounder). GST has thereby built up a larger portfolio of high-quality depth data.

In parallel, GST has for the past 10 years worked to create coverage of the waters along the coast of West Greenland with both high-quality paper charts, and electronic charts (ENCs). The purpose of the effort has been to replace old paper charts with new paper charts and create ENC coverage.

So far, the effort has resulted in the creation of coastal ENC coverage from Sisimiut to the south of Nuuk. ENC cove-rage of the west Greenland coast, north of Sisimiut and south of Nuuk, is still outstanding.Most of the coastline north of Sisimiut and south of Nuuk is covered by old paper charts and ENC coverage is lacking.

From the beginning, the strategy of GST in relation to establishing coverage with new charts has been to publish new paper charts and ENC simultaneously. The strategy has several advantages. Among other things, it ensures that there is consistency between hydrography (depth information), coastline, etc. in newly released paper charts and ENC.

However, the strategy is resource intensive. There are still 6 years of work to be completed before full coverage of the West Greenland coast has been established with new paper charts and ENC.

If the strategy is maintained unchanged, it will mean that a quantity of high-quality depth data will only be used as a basis for navigation in several years’ time.

For the next 6 years, GST will continue to pursue the strategy of simultaneously releasing paper charts and ENCs. However, GST has decided to supplement the strategy with a new initiative, namely the publication of ENCs with limited content.

By the end of 2023, these ENCs with limited content will create full, coastal ENC coverage north of Sisimiut and south of Nuuk, i.e. the part of the West Greenland coastline where there is currently no ENC coverage.

These ENCs with limited content will be published and updated on an equal footing with the other ENCs from GST. The usual distribution channels for ENCs will be used.These ENCs with limited content incorporate both an accurate coastline and depth data from new surveys.

The purpose of the new initiative is to ensure that shipping gets ENC access more quickly and thus the opportunity to navigate using satellite navigation as well as ECDIS and with the support of depth information generated from new surveys.

It can be difficult to distinguish ENCs with limited content from ENCs with full content. There are a number of simila-rities. However, there are also points where ENCs with limited content differ from ENCs with full content. Points that navigators need to be aware of.

The introduction of ENCs with limited content also creates a number of inconsistencies across nautical chart products. Navigators need to be aware of these inconsistencies.
