When typhoon Yolanda wrought
havoc to the Visayas regions on
November 7, 2013, Bogo was one
of those badly hit. With poweroutage for over a month Bogo out-
reach was unable to have its
breakfast fellowships. Instead the
outreach under the leadership of
Alex and Lucille Mendoza concen-
trated on giving reliefs to people
severely affected by the calamity.
And so Bogos mother chapter,
Mactan, held a special Breakfast
in Bogo on December 15, 2013 as
its culminating activity for the year.
With our very own AMD Nelson
and Baby Dauz as sharers, the
day was made more special with
more than 60 brothers and sisters
from Mactan who came to distrib-ute relief goods to the most af-
fected Bogohanons.

that have been ac-
complished for the
years 2012 and

the reward for having done good.

The bride to be Lizzy at the traditional wedding
My brother, mom, and me
Marriage rites in IGBO Tribe, Nigeria
Leaving the Philippines on the 25th of December toattend wedding ceremonies of my brother Benedict, some people who saw the Facebook invitation weresurprised about the two dates, 28th and 30 th. Here weeven have three marriages, the first being the tradi-tional or tribal, second is civil and the third is churchmarriage. In Nigeria every girl dreams of white wed-
ding, traditional marriage (mamalaye) is a festivitydone in the house of the parents of the bride to be,and it is done with lots of eating and drinking anddancing. The civil marriage is like marriage registra-tion with the government marriage registry and a re-quirement before the church wedding. So on the 28 thofDecember my brother and our family and friends tookoff to the house of the bride Elizabeth to celebrate thetraditional wine carrying. The day was filled withlaughter and some traditional rites were perfumed
with dances, during which money was prayed on thefaces and heads of the bride and groom. Families ofthe couple were present and joined in their joy andfestivity, I was there too as my brother was my onlybrother. We were there from 11.30am until 5pm be-fore going back to our town more than three hoursjourney. When we came back the celebration contin-ued in our place as some of our family members whocould not travel with us came to welcome the newbride.
Two days after, on the 30thof December by 11am, I
officiated the wedding mass in the Cathedral witharound 14 other priests, after the mass that was wellattended by both families, we set out for the receptionthat lasted till 5pm. Before we left the venue, themother of the bride and her family presented to meand my mother the gift they have for their daughter, among them are refrigerator, washing machine, cook-ing stove and lots of other items.

Chapter Heads New Years Message
As I ponder on the things that transpired on 2013 a lot of questionspopped up on my mind which leads me to more questions that eventuallygive no answer at all rather brought me to confusion. Should life be like this?
Morning of Dec. 30, I got a text message from my father that readsDong yesterday was the Feast of the Holy Family, were you able to hear
Mass? I believe thats your devotion. The Holy Family is at the entrance of
your home. In a way it struck me because I may had sent reminder on that
feast to the community but I had not given much attention on it until that mes-sage. Such religious icon has been with my family for over 13 years but
have I made a truthful reflection why I placed it at the entrance of myhome?
I may have a complete family with growing respectful children but mostlikely far from being ideal. But as we can see almost all problems in oursociety boils down to the values of the families.
As I reflect further I came to the realization that the family being the ba-sic institution of our society plays the biggest role of what our society hasbecome these days. Precisely reminding me why I bought the Holy Familyicon to remind me to strive hard to rear a better family being a product ofimperfect one.
Being part of such society, may it be in our own family or the communityin general, can we still expect to see a better one? I believe yes and it alldepends on us. Like Mary and Joseph they question the calling of the Lord tobe the bearer of the Savior due to the cultural norms at that time but even-tually they acceded. Such situation came into being because our Lord wantsus to see that we can be part of the needed societys change rather than an
added burden.
As we embark another year with much hope, I encourage everyone totake active role and ownership of our beloved 2nd family, the BCBP. Thisyear we will roll out activities that will lead us in the fulfillment of our com-mitments. All our plans would me meaningless if we will not take part on it
similarly we cannot claim nor deny our biological family since we cannot bein this world if not because of them.
The year ahead is full of uncertainties yet the promise of the Lord standsthe same Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will giveyou rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle andlowly in heart and you will find rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden islight.
A blessed and prosperous 2014.

Joy or misery is a choice we have to make daily. If we are busy being grateful, well have no time tobe miserable.

I like it when someone tells me 'I don't agree.' This is a true
collaborator. When they say 'Oh, how great, how great, how great,' that's not useful.
