In this programme Faurs Requiem is paired with Bachs Partita in D minor and a selection of chorales. Faurs Requiem is a work of serenity, joy and liberation. In finding a sense of inner stillness in this composition Faur crafted a work of astonishing beauty which can be seen no better than in the Pie Jesu. Bachs craftsmanship is demonstrated in his second violin partita which is interspersed with chorales. The work culminates in a reconstruction of the Ciaconna which highlights the hidden chorale themes within this fascinating piece.
