SHOWBUZZ THURSDAY, MAY 19, 20114ROMEL M. LALATA, Editor

Stars weigh in on RH billWould the RH bill, which

guarantees access to informa-tion and methods of birth con-trol, make our country more

    productive?Being prolife doesnt stop the

moment the baby is born. Itcontinues as the parent strug-

    gles to raise the child.

Delicate matterThe RH bill is such a delicate

and tricky matter. It all boilsdown to what our consciencecan live with.

RH could very well stand forresponsible habit.

Heres what somecelebrities have to say

about the issue. Go forthand multiply or go awayand sigh?

Leo Valdez: I am in fa-vor of the RH bill. I havebeen wondering for thelongest time why nothingof this sort has beenpassed. It is not even com-pulsory, as I understand. Itis just to make couples re-alize they have an optionto have just enough off-

springs to provide a betterquality life for the kids. Irespect the views of those

who are against it but sad-ly, we are still a strugglingcountry forever goingagainst the tide of econom-ic prosperity. Although giv-ing life is a privilege and ablessing, we must alwaysremember that giving lifealso means great responsi-bility.

Lucy Torres-Gomez: Iam prolife. With all due re-

spect to those who are pushingfor the passage of the RH bill, Ipersonally do not believe weshould take it upon ourselves todecide who should be given lifeor deprived of it by passing alaw to make it legal. Let us rec-ognize and respect Godssovereignty and wisdom. Life isa gift. Let us also not be threat-ened by the idea of overpopula-

tion or poverty. The RH bill isnot guaranteed to answer thoseissues.

Joey Generoso (Side A):The Philippines does not needthe RH bill. All its good provi-sions are already mandated inthe Constitution and are al-ready designed programs of theagencies concerned. They justneed to be implementedthrough sincere and aggressivepolicy enforcement.

Amy Perez: Im pro-RH billbecause I believe we really needto educate the poor women onthe choice they have to makeand teach them to become re-sponsible parents para di duma-mi ang batang walang magan-dang kinabukasan dahil di

pinaghandaan ng magulang.Benjie Paras: Its the right

thing but for those who want toexplore, its better to have pro-tection.

Pinky Amador: I am pro-RH bill. Whats the point of giv-ing birth if youcant give them agood life?

    Rachel ALe-jandro: I am100 percent in fa-

vor of the RHbill. The popula-tion growth isout of controland the govern-ment should do

what it can tohelp educate thepeople and pro-

vide family plan-ning options. Itsa matter of sur-

vival. I feel forpeople who canbarely make endsmeet becausethey have toomany kids tosupport.

    Luke Mejares:

Im in favor of the RH bill. Itsbetter that people have the op-tion to choose from differentkinds of contraceptives becausein these hard times, the familyshould be able to feed the kidsadequately, send them to goodschools and give them a brightfuture.

Toni Rose Gayda: I am forthe RH bill. There are too manykids on the streets and no oneto raise nor support them. A lot

of child trafficking and prostitu-tion, too. Kawawa talaga.

Carmi Martin: I am for theRH bill. We need to control thepopulation for our countryseconomy to improve.

    Urban legendFor generations, Koreans

have this urban legend of amythical creature (monster tosome) called Gumiho. Its saidto be a nine-tailed fox thattakes the form of a woman andseduces men so that later theycan pull and eat the liver out oftheir fragile human bodies.

Action star Cha Dae-woong,who top-bills ABS-CBNs newestKoreanovela My Girlfriend is aGumiho (weekdays 4:45 p.m.after Frijolito), encountered aGumiho himself. He has proventhat they are not capable of tak-ing your liver; rather, they cantake away your heart.

    Catch his exciting adventures

    in this unusual love story.

THE RAGING controversy about the reproductivehealth (RH) bill has reached colossal propor-tions. Neither side wants to budge.
