History

• Zither – strings do not extend beyond the Sounding Box

• Se (瑟 ) - 25 strings with moveable bridges and has a range of up to five octaves; 400BCE

• Earliest record of the Gu Zheng dates to 91 BCE

• Before 1961 – 16 Strings• After 1961 – 21 Strings

Uses

• Techniques of playing the guzheng can create sounds that can evoke the sense of:– a cascading waterfall– Thunder–horses' hooves– and even the scenic countryside.
