Altru History

At Altru we aim to bring the new history curriculum to life. Whether it’s

turning your school hall into Ancient Greece or your pupils into Viking

invaders, drama gives the whole school a memorable experience

filled with facts, dates, characters, places and historical enquiry.

Our History Play in a Days equip pupils with the knowledge and skills

to delve into a topic. This inspires their curiosity, encouraging them

to ask questions, think critically and develop their understanding –

all in a participatory way.

See page 11 for an explanation of how a Play in a Day works.

Bringing the curriculum to life…Hello we’re Altru Drama. We work with schools, delivering workshops

and performances that are linked to the curriculum and to clear

learning outcomes. We give children opportunities to learn in

a creative, accessible and memorable way. Our work increases

confidence and, in turn, raises standards. We strongly believe that

drama can inspire and educate children. We love what we do – and

we hope you’d like to find out more about us.

This brochure is designed to give you a flavour of our approach and

the projects we offer. We’re specialists at bringing the curriculum to

life, so if you’ve got a topic you’d like to cover and need a creative

Altru PSHE

At Altru, we believe PSHE & SEAL are essential elements of every child’s

education. Our workshops and Play in a Day options allow children to

explore their place in the world and consider the choices they make.

Drama also offers pupils the opportunity to work with others, share

ideas, take part in discussions and reflect on their ideas and opinions.

We offer a range of options for PSHE & SEAL, so whether you’d like

your pupils to spend a morning exploring respect, experience a whole

day on anti-bullying or create a confidence boosting performance,

we can offer the perfect project for your school.

See page 11 for an explanation of how a Play in a Day works.

It was a non-stop action packed day

that squeezed in more than normal in the time

available…it brought to life a very tricky and relevant issueMr Bolan-AshworthSt Sebastian’s Primary School Salford

physical and verbal – and what it means to be a friend.

which links into the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s theme for the year and

helps schools to explore the issue. Keep an eye on our website

for information in the summer term!

Altru English Exciting Writing

Effective drama practice can allow children to enjoy reading and

develop their writing skills in a practical and participatory way.

Whether you’re looking to explore a particular book, develop

understanding of a writer or enhance your pupils’ writing skills –

we can put together a project that works for you.

Our Play in a Days explore Shakespeare, poetry and the works

of Roald Dahl, while workshop options can stretch as far as your

imagination – we’re happy to create and deliver a project that

specifically fits your needs. Take a look at The Monkey Project,

if you’re looking for something a little different!

See page 11 for an explanation of how a Play in a Day works.

The Monkey Project…The Monkey Project is a new and innovative way of making writing

exciting for your pupils. Inspired by Chicago based company Barrel of

Monkeys, The Monkey Project has been created especially for UK schools.

Pupils participate in a 6 week class-based residency and, through

modelling stories and engaging in participatory drama work, children

are filled with ideas for imaginative, weird and wonderful stories – which

they immediately write down in their very own Monkey Journals.

After 6 weeks work, children’s stories are selected and turned into

a bespoke performance which is written by – and for – your pupils,

and performed in your school hall.

Celebrate Christmas with Pinocchio…Pinocchio is made of wood, he doesn’t always do as he’s told and he

doesn’t always tell the truth. But the love of his father Geppetto, and

his friend the Cricket, help Pinocchio to learn about trust, respect,

love and what it means to be a real boy.

Altru are bringing the classic tale of Pinocchio to schools in Christmas

2014 as a fantastic treat for the whole school! Children will watch as

Pinocchio comes to life and will have a ‘whale’ of a time joining in with

the songs, shouting at the bad guys and helping the little puppet

on his grand adventures. Book now to bring this engaging,

participatory performance to your school in December 2014.

I knew drama had the capacity to help children’s learning – but

I did not expect this level of impact.

The children learned new skills, as relevant to life as doing maths or English. Their confidence and

self-belief blossomed in a short space of time.

Fantastic!
