(NAPSI)—The Internet makesit easy to shop for the best bar-gain on a used car—just re-member, an offer that seems"too good to be true" probablyis. It may come from someoneknown as a "curbstoner."These are illegal dealers whopose as individual sellers on-line and mostly deal with carsthat reputable dealers won'ttouch. You may see cheap prices butthe cars generally have majorproblems you're not toldabout, such as flood damage, bad accidents or odometerproblems. Some may evenhave a different Vehicle Identi-fication Number (VIN), a trickused by thieves to hide thetrue identity of stolen cars.Look for:1. Strange marks or scratcheson the dashboard VIN plate orsticker inside the driver's sidedoor.2. Any car documents wherethe VIN looks altered.3. Multiple VINs on differentpieces of paperwork.4. The seller's name not ap-pearing on car title or registra-tion.What to do: Shop online at aplace like carfax.com. Everycar for sale there comes with afree Carfax Vehicle HistoryReport. Also have a trustedmechanic inspect the vehicleand always see the car in per-son.
