This week brought us some stable weather that helped the fishing to get better dai-

ly. The high winds have moved some dirty water into some areas that were clean before changing the bite. I spoke to a couple of ex-perienced anglers this week that reported catching Shell Cracker on the outside edges of the cover using grass shrimp. The fish are still in pre-spawn mode but will be moving in to spawn, possibly on our next major moon phase. We have not been seeing Shell Cracker and Blue gill in big num-bers in the shallow marsh areas in big numbers yet, although there are a few just cruising. A few weeks of stable weather and warm water can make a tremendous dif-ference in the movement of the pan fish toward their traditional bedding areas. There are many areas outside of the grasslines where there is emerging hydrilla and or eel grass. These areas are

holding bass and will very soon be holding large numbers of pan fish. The bass bite continues to be spotty, some days it is great other days, not so good. Many of the bass seemed to have spawned, al-though we are still catching some bass that have not yet bedded. The ramps around Lake Okeechobee have never been more crowded than they are right now. Please observe good etiquette when launching your boat and have ev-erything ready prior to backing onto the ramp.

Okeechobee Historical Society The Okeechobee Historical Society set up a booth at the Battle of Okeechobee re-enactment event on Feb. 4. Historical items were sold and stories of the old dayswere enjoyed.
