TheBasmalahbeingobligatoryhasnotbeensaidbyanyoftheSalaf(earlygeneration)fromtheSahabah(companionsoftheProphetملسو هيلع هللا ىلص),theTabi’in(followersofthe

Sahabah)orAtba’Tabi’in(followersoftheTabi’in).5

SiwakatTheTimeofWudu’

IbnShamilsaid,“theArakisatallfine-shootgreentreewithmanyleavesandbranches,havingweakwoodandgrowinginhollows-miswaksaretakenfromit,beingoneofthe

citrustrees.ItssingularisArakanditspluralAra-ik.”7

ThereisnodifferenceofopiniononthelegislationofusingtheSiwakatthetimeofWudu’.However,thereisadifferenceofopiniononwhenexactlytouseit.Thereareevidencesforit´slegislationfromtheSunnah,fromthemarethefollowingnarrations:

AbuHurairah(ريض الله عنه)narratesthattheProphetملسو هيلع هللا ىلصsaid:“Ifitwerenottobeahardshiponmynation,Iwouldorderthemtousethetoothstick(Siwak)whenmaking

Wudu’.”8

PerformingTheWudu’InTheOrderMentionedinTheVerseofTheQuran

Allah( عز وجل)says:

ام8س'ح!وا الص%لاة; فاغسلوا و!ج!وه'كم8 و'أي8د;ي'كم8 إلى الم'ر'اف;ق و' ي'ا أي3ه'ا الذ;ين' آم'ن!وا إذا قم8ت!م8 إلى بر!ءوس;كم8 و'أر8ج!لكم8 إلى الكع8ب'ي8ن

“Oyouwhobelieve!Whenyouprepareforprayer,washyourfaces,andyourhands(andarms)totheelbows;rubyourheads(withwater);and(wash)yourfeettotheankles.”20ItisnotauthenticallyproventhattheProphetملسو هيلع هللا ىلصdifferedwiththeorderofWudu’thatis

mentionedintheayah-notevenonce.

Theobligationofwashingthepartsinitssequentialorder(thatismentionedintheayah)istheopinionofthemajorityofthescholars.21

IthasnotbeenauthenticallyprovenfromtheProphetملسو هيلع هللا ىلص,norfromanyofthe

companionstohavealongbreakbetweenwashingthelimbsofWudu’andthemajorityofthescholarsareupontheviewthatcontinuity(washingeachlimboneaftertheother)

isobligatory,theonewhodifferedwiththatisAbuHanifah.22

AsforashortbreakbetweenthewashingofthelimbsofWudu’,thenthereisnoharmindoingthat,thereisnodifferenceonthataccordingtotheviewoftheSalafanditdoes

notnullifytheWudu’accordingtoIjma’,whichwasmadebyAbuHamidandAn-Nawawi.23

2) Beforebowing,3) Afterrisingfrombowing,and

4) AfterstandingupfollowingthefirstTashahhudinathreeorfourrak’ahprayer.

sacrifice,mylifeandmydeathareforAllaah,Lordoftheworlds,nopartnerhasHe,withthisIamcommandedandIamoftheMuslims.OAllaah,YouaretheSovereign,nonehas

therighttobeworshipedexceptYou.YouaremyLordandIamYourservant,Ihavewrongedmyownsoulandhaveacknowledgedmysin,soforgivemeallmysinsfornooneforgivessinsexceptYou.GuidemetothebestofcharactersfornonecanguidetoitotherthanYou,anddelivermefromtheworstofcharactersfornonecandeliverme

fromitotherthanYou.HereIam,inanswertoYourcall,happytoserveyou.AllgoodiswithinYourhandsandevildoesnotstemfromYou.IexistbyYourwillandwillreturnto

“WhenTheQur’anisrecited,listentoit,andbesilentsoyoumayreceivemercy.”141

ItisreportedfrommorethanonefromamongsttheSalafthatthisversewasreferringtothe“Prayer”.142

So,SurahFatihahistoberecitedbehindtheImamintheDhuhrandAsrprayer,thelast

RakahofMaghrib,andthelasttwoRakahofIsha.

RecitingPortionsoftheQur’anAfterSurahFatihah

OneshouldreadafterSurahFatihaanythingthatiseasyforhimfromtheQur’an.ThescholarshaveagreedthatitisrecommendedtoreciteaSurahafterFatihahinthe(two)

Rak’ahsofFajrandthefirsttwoRak’ahsofalltheotherprayers.143

'AbdullahbinMas'ud(ريض الله عنه)narratedthat:TheMessengerofAllahملسو هيلع هللا ىلصusedtosaysalaamtohisright:“Assalaamu‘alaikumwarahmatullahi(PeacebeuponyouandthemercyofAllah)untilthewhitenessofhisrightcheekcouldbeseen,andtohisleft:As-salamu'alaykumwarahmatullahi(peacebeuponyouandthemercyofAllah)untilthe
