THE Kathu policearrested fiveMozambiquenationals suspect-ed of stealing.The arrest was

made on 23November at approximately 23:35on the N14 road outside Kathu.Sgt Ben Eiman and Const.

Tebogo Molale searched a suspi-cious-looking Toyota Hi-Ace kombiand arrested the occupants.The suspects are part of an

ongoing investigation regardingthe theft of a white Suzuki quadbike at 5 Silwerboom Street inKathu.The dogs on the premises were

poisoned prior to the theft.The Kathu police request the

rehabilitation centre in

weermag aan die Infanterieskool inOudtshoorn verbonde waar hy dierang van luitenant behaal het.Hy was in 1985 in die grensoorlog

by Operasie Zeppelin betrokke.Ná sy diensplig het hy aan die

eerste skool, die Dale-kollege inKing Williams Town, gaan skool-hou.Hier was hy hoof van die

metaalwerk-en-tekeninge-afdeling.Dié skool is steeds een van die

tien topskole in Suid-Afrika.Dit is waar hy sy tradisionele

onderwyswaardes geleer het enwaarby hy vandag steeds hou.In 1988 is hy na Vryburg om met

die ontwikkeling van die nuwe

Technika- siviele departement tehelp. Hy het 12 jaar hier gewerk.Eindelik het Botha in Kathu

nesgeskop.“In 2002 het ek aan die Laerskool

Kathu begin skoolhou. Ek hetwiskunde en tale vir die gr. 6- engr. 7-leerlinge aangebied.”Hy is vir ’n jaar na die Hoër-

skool Kalahari in Kurumanoorgeplaas waar hy die tegnologie-vakke aangebied het.Ná sy tyd in Kuruman is hy in

2005 na die Hoërskool Kathuverplaas.Hy is in 2008 as die hoof van die

skool aangestel, die pos wat hyvandag steeds beklee.Botha het in 1983 met die liefde

van sy lewe, Tarina, getrou.“My vrou is die vredemaker in

die huis. Sy hou ons almal rustig.”Sy hou ook aan die Hoërskool

Kathu skool.’n Mens kan sien Botha se drie

kinders is sy trots.Sy oudste, sy dogter Riané (29), is

die MIS- (bestuursinligtingstelsel)offisier aan die ingenieursafdelingvan die Khumani-myn naby Kathu.Sy middelste kind, Gerrit, studeer

aan sy doktorsgraad aan dieNoordwes-Universiteit se Potchef-stroom-kampus.Hy is ’n dosent en is in die laaste

jaar van sy navorsing.Sy jongste seun, Mardus, is “nie

die soetste seun in die land nie,maar presteer nogtans baie goed”.Botha is baie trots op sy jongste

seun se prestasies as gr. 11-leerlingaan die Hoërskool Kathu.Mardus is onder die skool se tien

topleerlinge en is deel van dieskool se uitvoerende komitee vir2015.“Ek is baie trots op my kinders.

Hulle het so baie op ’n jongouderdom bereik.”Botha word binnekort die eerste

keer oupa.“Ons is baie opgewonde en

beplan om die kleindogter, Ta-lea,verskriklik te bederf.”In sy vrye tyd boer Botha met

Jack Russell-terriërs.Hy wys trots ’n foto van sy

“stoetbrakkie”, Buks.Verder werk hy in die tuin.“Ek loop mos nie graag rond

nie,” sê hy.Botha is beslis ’n kinder-mens.

“Ek geniet die leerlinge vreeslik.Dit is vir my lekker om te sien hoehulle gedy.”In sy laai hou hy ’n bedankings-

brief aan hom van ’n oudleerlingom hom te herinner aan watterpositiewe impak ’n goeie onderwy-ser in sy leerlinge se lewe kanmaak.“Dit is waaroor die onderwys is:

Jesuswys ons nuwewêreld van vrede

VREDEMAKERS: Burgers van ’nnuwe Koninkryk – Jes. 11:1-8.

In die Kersfeestyd kom die begripvrede onvermydelik in ons gedagtesop. Die engele se openingswoordeaan die herders is: “Vrede op aarde,in die mense ’n welbehae.”

In Joh. 3:16 hoor ons: Want so liefhet God die wêreld gehad dat Hy syeniggebore Seun gestuur het, sodatelkeen wat in Hom glo, nie verloresal gaan nie, maar die ewige lewesal hê.

Dit is asof dié twee gedeeltes onswil laat teruggaan na die paradys-toestand. Terug na die begin,voordat daar sonde was.

Jesaja se beeld is aangrypend.Vanweë die geseënde regering vandie Vredevors sal daar geen roof enmoord meer wees nie, geen onmin,geen verdeeldheid nie – in diediereryk, asook die menseryk.Hulle wat mekaar gewoonlik byt enopvreet, sal nou in vrede saamleef.

Die Hebreeuse werkwoord watdié vrede aandui, beteken: om asvreemdeling êrens te vertoef, maarsoos ’n gas beskerm te word.

Die profeet sê dus die kalf staanlangs die leeu, maar in plaas

daarvan dat die leeu sy kraggebruik om die kalf te verskeurgebruik hy dit om die kalf teengevaar te beskerm.

THE Raubex company cares abouttheir neighbouring community’schildren.They recently held a safety

competition for the learners ofthe Sesheng Intermediate Schoolnear Kathu.The competition entailed a

colouring competition for thelearners. They completed colour-ing tasks on pedestrian and homesafety.The Raubex operations are

close to the school.They have taken great trouble

to protect the local children fromdeep excavations and constructionvehicles.The winners were announced

on 24 November.Biokanyo Bacano won the first

place, Thabo Kolwane camesecond and Biopelo Shuping camethird in the overall colouringcompetition.Kabelo Serati won the prize for

the most creative entry.

All the winners won a helicop-ter ride over Kathu.Although the winners were a

bit nervous at first, they enjoyedthe trip immensely.“I am going to become a pilot,”

said Bacano after his first flight.Eben Potgieter of Raubex said

this had been a humbling expe-rience and that the company wasimpressed with the level of skillshown in some of the entries.The over-all grade competition

winners will be announced inDecember where learners will wintrips to Kimberley.

Closure planIn accordance with the MPRDA, a closure plan and an environmental riskreport will be compiled and submitted to the Department of MineralResources (DMR) in support of the Closure Certificate for the PTMProspecting Right. Maseve has appointed Bateleur Environmental &Monitoring Services (Bateleur) as the independent environmentalconsultant to undertake the closure application process. As part of theclosure application an environmental risk report will be developed. Due tothe prospecting methods employed, no environmental risks were identified.

The public participation process will form an integral component of theclosure process by providing the Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs)with the opportunity to comment on the proposed closure for PTM'sprospecting right. In order to provide comments on the proposed closure,I&APs are requested to review the closure plan report which will be madeavailable from 1 December 2014 to 14 December 2014 at the followingplaces:
