During a stop-and-search operationheld at the beginning of February, theKathu and Kuruman K9 police unitssearched suspects for possible possessi-on of drugs and stolen goods.The police also visited learners fromKathu and its neighbouring schools aswell as the Kathu FET College. Fivehouses in Kathu were searched wherethe police found tik along with stolenTVs and laptops.) The Kathu police are investigating acase of culpable homicide that occuredon 2 February at approximateley 01:00on the Kathu-Sesheng Road where anunidentified pedestrian was alledgedlystruck by a blue Volkswagen Golf.Anyone with information regarding thepedestrian can contact the investigativeofficer, WO Johan Rossouw on 053-723-9125.) Net ’n ma weet hoe besig anderma’s se skedules is. Ons almalmoet werksverpligtinge, die kindersse programme en natuurlik ookaandetes, middagetes en ’n hoopander verpligtinge nakom.

Selfs al is jy met ’n wonderlikeman getroud wat ook sy deel doen,raak dit partykeer net te veel en isdit nodig om soms een hele dag netvir jouself te hê.

’n Ander vriendin het gesê syvoel soms so skuldig, want sy smagna ’n middag sonder haar twee-jari-ge kind én haar man.

“As die een weg is, wens ek dieander een kan ook nie daar weesnie, want anders kan ’n mens netnie ontspan nie,” het sy gesê.

Dit klink dalk geweldig selfsugtigX maar ’n dag of middag waar jynie hoef te dink aan kos nie, nieeen keer die woord “Ma” hoor nie,nie een enkele aanspraak op joutyd het nie, is vir enige ma dieperfekte geskenk.

Add to this the all too commoninstances of brutal farm attacksand the situation becomes adangerous powder keg.

After 22 years of politicaldemocracy, racism is still aliveand well and rearing its ugly headin the behaviour of some of thecountry’s youth. So after 22 years,where are the so called “bornfree’s” picking up this disturbingbigotry?

The answer unfortunately lieswith their elders.

No child is born a racist. It is asystematically learned behaviourthat sprouts from their primarycaregivers. These include parents,teachers and spiritual leaders.

Fortunately, the majority makeit a point to raise children inways that are in line with modernthinking and shuns racism intheir thinking. These childrengrow up without the baggage ofhatred, and in ignorance ofracism.

But, as in any society, there arethose that cling to the necessityfor racism. They teach theirchildren that it is socially accepta-

ble, even admirable to hate andjudge others only on the colour oftheir skin.

Behaviour learnt from a parentmakes an impact that is neverforgotten in life. Attempts tojustify racism can be rooted in anumber of situations. People willalways find a reason for racism.These “reasons” will then getpassed on to their children orstudents, where they will take itas truth. When these childrenbecome adults, the cycle isrepeated. There is simply noescape from senseless racialviolence and stereotypic discrimi-nation unless the elders of SouthAfrica put a stop to it.

Anger and resentment towardsone particular racial group cannotjustify the way in which some ofthe country’s youth are raised.South Africa’s constitutionguarantees all its citizens theright to freedom of thought andspeech. What a shame it is towaste this privilege on spreadinghatred towards fellow humans.

Politicians, church leaders andthe parents of this country need tostart taking responsibility for thebehaviour and reasoning of SouthAfrica’s children.

It is unacceptable for one childto victimise another purely basedon the colour of his or her skin.

Be part of the solution. Stopraising racist children.

WAT maak die huwelik lekker?(Gen. 2:4-24)

Hoe gelukkig is die gemiddeldeegpaar in ons dorp en land? Diestatistieke rondom huwelike vertel’n negatiewe verhaal van egskei-ding en ongelukkigheid in velehuishoudings. Hoekom sal dit sowees? Weet egpare dan nie dat diebedoeling van die huwelik is dathulle baie gelukkig sal wees nie?Wat verstaan ons nie?

Die Bybel begin met die skep-ping van die wêreld in Genesis 1,maar in Genesis 2 lees ons ’ntweede skeppingsverhaal, waar diefokus val op die verhoudingewaarin die mens in hierdie wêreldstaan. Die belangrike klem van dieverhaal is dat die mens ten diepstemens is saam met ander mense.Ons ontdek ons ware mensweesdeur in verhouding met ander tewees.

Die Here sê in hierdie verhaaldat dit nie goed is dat die mensalleen is nie en daarom maak hyvir hom ’n helper, sy gelyke.

Toe hy haar ontmoet, swaai sygemoed en kon hy eindelik uitroepdat hy nou gelukkig is.

Mense is van die begin af virmekaar gemaak. Selfs die verskilletussen ons is beplan. God bring

nie vir die man ’n identiesetweeling om hom aan te vul nie.

Hy bring iemand heel anders nahom. In hul andersheid vul hullemekaar aan, bring elkeen ietsunieks om die ander te help opplekke waar hy of sy tekortskiet.God se antwoord op die man seprobleem van alleen wees, is omvir hom ’n spanmaat te gee. Ensoos in elke span is elke lid uiterskosbaar en moet elkeen gehelpword om sy of haar uniekheid telaat groei.

Dit is juis wanneer elkeen sy ofhaar uniekheid beskikbaar stel datdie span op sy beste funksioneer.Spanwerk gaan oor individualiteitwat saamgevoeg word en tot ’nbeter uiteinde saamwerk.

Ons sukkel met andersheid. Onsweet nie altyd hoe om diversiteitte hanteer nie. Ons moet ditopnuut waardeer en moeite doenom dit selfs te vier.

Wanneer ek en jy dus nie in onsverhoudings gelukkig is nie, moetons vra of ons as span reg funksio-neer. In watter mate word daargeleentheid gegee vir elke spanlidom sy of haar unieke gawes te laat

groei en beskikbaar te stel?Soms stagneer ons en help ons

nie mekaar om in ons uniekemenswees te groei nie. Hoe waaris dit van jou? Help jy jou man ofvrou om goed te voel oor hom- ofhaarself? Gee jy erkenning aanhom of haar as hy of sy goeiebydraes tot die verhouding lewer?Bou jy sy of haar selfvertroue deurdie ander te bedank en te waar-deer wanneer dit nodig is?

Die Here se bedoeling was dat,wanneer ons ná jare se getroudelewe sou terugkyk, ons moet sê datelkeen in die verhouding beterdaaraan toe is as toe ons diehuwelik begin het.

Man én vrou moet kan sê hulleis beter huweliksmaats omdat dieander persoon hom of haartoegelaat en aangemoedig het omsy of haar karakter en gedrag teverbeter om ’n beter spanspeler tewees.

Hulle het gegroei om ál meer diebeeld van Jesus te vertoon.

As jy nie in jou verhoudinggelukkig is nie, begin vandag deurterug te gaan na die eenvoudigeredes waarom jy en jou maat inmekaar vreugde gevind het.Probeer om op eenvoudigemaniere jou maat se lewe gelukkigen beter te maak.

Every year, the gr. 12 homelanguage learners of Duineveld Highattend a Gatsby evening in order to relivethe times of their setwork book, TheGreat Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Thisyear all the learners attended and theevening was well spent with more flairthan ever. Everybody dressed accordingly,enjoyed mocktails, snacks and periodmusic and watched the latest GreatGatsby movie. While capturing theatmosphere of the 1920’s, great fun washad by all.

jare heen die mensdom toegelaat het omwyn op groter skaal te produseer bly diewyn wat Orange River Cellars maak, getrouaan die resep wat die eerste wynmakersvan toeka ingespan het. Met ander woorde,die vrug van die wingerd word gepers endie vrug se sap word gegis. Suiker word inalkohol omskep en in die proses word diesap deur ’n magdom magiese geure aange-vul. Suiwer wyn.Wat wyn verder besonders maak, is dat

dit ’n produk is wat geografie en kultuurweerspieël. Orange River Cellars maak,byvoorbeeld, wyn van die shiraz-druifsoort.Só ook word shiraz in die Rhône-vallei inFrankryk en die Barossa-vallei van Austra-

part of her daytime performances.She says that a tour of this magnitude

takes its toll on a person’s emotionalwellbeing and internal time clock. “Butafter about a week, it becomes yourlifestyle”.She and her sound enigeneer, Mari-

nus van Heerden, have met a variety ofdifferent people during their tour.“But I love the people of Kathu. There

is a real sense of community here.”Chapman says that she feels blessed

KATHU het ’n nuwe kuierplek bygekry. Die nuwe skemerkelkie­kroeg is by die Kalahari­bui­teklub (KCC) se gholfbaan geleë. Van links is die kroegpersoneel Jeffery Kobnar, EnniGwai en Olivia Jacobs.

DIE inwoners van Kathu het lekker saam by die nuwe kuierplek gekuier. Van links is LindaEsterhuizen, Greda Kruger en Erika du Toit. Hulle het veral die nuwe kroeg se pragtigeuitsig geniet.

VIER jaar nadat die eerste balke in diehistoriese Moffat-sendingkerk gebreek en diegrasdak op plekke begin insak het, hetherstelwerk verlede week daaraan begin.

Drie geboue op die terrein sal in dievolgende maande reggemaak word.

Colin Fortune, erfenisbewaringskonsultant,sal die werk moniteer. Dié projek lê hom naaan die hart.

Die bekende sendeling Robert Moffat hetdie kerk in 1829 begin bou en in 1838 voltooi.Ander geboue het ook later bygekom.

“Die tuin rondom die geboue sal skoonge-maak word en uitheemse seringbome enander bosse sal afgekap word. Die geskied-kundige seringbome langs die leivoor watvan Die Oog in Kuruman af kom, sal behouword. In die geskiedkundige begraafplaas isgrafte van sendelinge, kerkwerkers engestorwenes uit die Anglo-Boereoorlog.”

Fortune sê skade wat deur vog en insekteveroorsaak is, het balke en die grasdak laatmeegee.

“Die insekte vreet die hout tot poeier. Ditkan nie meer die gewig van die gras en rietdra nie en knak maklik.

“Reënwater en vog het in die muregesypel. Swak dreinering het ook vog infondamente en mure laat intrek.”

Die kerk is weens die moontlike gevarevan die wankelende dak vir toeriste gesluit.

Fortune sê al die dakkappe gaan vervangword. Die oues sal in plek bly sodat besoe-kers steeds kan sien hoe die ou balke gelykhet. Plekke waar dit met staalstukke,houtspykers en leerrieme in plek gehou is,sal behoue bly.

“Gras en dekriete en die waterpypleidingsal ook vervang word om fondamente enmure teen water te beskerm,” sê Fortune.“Dié terrein is reeds 200 jaar gelede deur dieLondense Sendinggenootskap vir sending-werk gebruik.”

Eerw. Kudzani Ndebele, direkteur van dieUnited Congregational Church of SouthernAfrica (UCCSA) wat nou die terrein engeboue besit, is baie opgewonde dat die kerknuwe lewe gaan kry ’n jaar voor die 200-jaar-viering van die terrein.

“Ons wil die sendingstasie tot sy eertydseglorie herstel. Ons is baie dankbaar vir dieLotto-skenking wat die projek moontlikgemaak het. Ons moet egter nog geld kry omdie museum besoekersvriendelik en modernte maak.”

Die ander geboue wat binnekort herstel salword, is die ou pastorie en die Hamilton-huis.Die bekende ontdekkingsreisiger DavidLivingstone het Mary Moffat, dogter vanRobert Moffat, hier om haar hand gevra.

Die eerste Bybel is hier in Tswana vertaalen gedruk (nog voordat die Bybel in Afri-kaans vertaal is).

Die drukker waarmee meer as 100 publika-sies gedruk is, is steeds in die skoolgeboulangs die kerk te vinde.

Die sendingstasie het duisende Tswana-kin-ders leer lees en skryf en ook mense tot dieChristendom bekeer.

Die sendelinge en werkers het landbougevestig en het leivore van 4 km uit kleigebou van Die Oog in Kuruman (wat18 miljoen liter water per dag uitspoeg) af nadie landerye om die sendingstasie.

Maxie was diagnosed with fibromyalgiain 2011.

Even though this required certainlifestyle changes, she manages to get upevery morning and live life to the fullest.

The Ga-Segonyana Municipality, in its efforts to improve Revenue Collection, recentlyappointed Cigicell (Pty) Ltd to implement the following:

1. Provide prepaid electricity customers with hassle free, convenient vendingchannels to purchase prepaid electricity tokens from. These vending channels aremade up of various strategically positioned retailers – both formal and informal aswell as online internet vending facilities and Banks.

2. Convert all households within the Municipal supply area, to prepaid electricitymeters.

3. Periodically Audit the prepaid meter base to ensure that all meters are in workingorder. Should a prepaid meter be found to have been tampered with illegally, therelevant Municipal tariff will be levied against the home owner’s account.

As from 1 March 2015, residents must allow the service provider to carry out theconversion of existing conventional electricity meters, to prepaid electricity meters.All Technicians will carry a Municipal-approved ID on them.

COST TO THE HOME OWNERHome owners are not required to pay any additional installation fees.The tariff for prepaid electricity per kilowatt hour is identical to the existing Tariff paid onyour conventional meter account.

DIE Sishen-rugbyspan het in sy laastevoorbereidingswedstryd vir die 2015-Ge-meenskapsbeker met die Griekwa-spanwat eersdaags aan die Vodacom-Bekerdeelneem, kragte gemeet. Die stadionwas stampvol plaaslike ondersteunersby die Sivos-rugbyveld in Kathu.In ’n wedstryd wat die verdedigings-

vermoë van die Sishen-span getoets het,het die spelers gewys hul skrum is ietsom op trots te wees. Die ervaring vandie ouer Sishen-voorry was duideliksigbaar teen die aansienlik jonger spanvan Griekwas.Griekwas het wel die wedstryd met

70-21 gewen, maar dit was baie goeievoorbereiding vir die Sishen-span. Diemanne pas vinniger by mekaar se spelaan wanneer die nodige veranderingeaangebring word en die gees en karak-ter onder die spelers is positief. Sishense drie drieë is deur Gerhard Roux, Lenle Roux en Thabang Molefe gedruk. Alledrieë is deur Tiaan le Roux verdoel.Die Sishen-manne sal in die volgende

twee weke op hul verdediging konsen-treer, asook die finale afronding van diespan vir die Gemeenskapsbeker.Op 21 Februarie skop die Gemeen-
