The “KOICA-ICAO Joint Program” was portrayed in my mind as an energetic andexciting program, where all kinds of different people from fifteen countries were able todevelop strong ties under the name of KOICA. Despite the diversity of backgrounds, cultures and languages, you showed the greatest teamwork and cooperation that I’veever observed. I want to meet you all in Korea again.

I remember the days of beautiful and good times we spent together in JejuIsland and South Korea.I would also like to thank you for your cooperation. I would also like tothank the representatives of KOICA for providing support and assistance todeveloping countries in the field of training and other areas. I thank fortheir hospitality and welcome.

Voices of Participants - Letter from Pakistan

Dear Ms Lee,

Thanks for your letter and especially the concern you have shown towards my country . I was quite impressed about your knowledge regarding the Holy month of Ramzan too.The worst floods have actually caused a lot of havoc here, mostly in the northern parts of Pakistan. My city Karachi is a port city, the biggest in the country , and not really affected by the rising waters which have otherwise ravaged most of the country. We always have our Korean friends in our hearts. Hope to hear from you soonTake care and best wishes

KOICA provided relief items to Pakistan equivalent to USD1,000,000, such as tents, water purification tablets, emergency foods, and medicines

KOICA to Fund Dental Clinic in Cusco, Peru

KOICA signed an agreement on the project for the establishment of a dental clinic with the National University of San Antonio Abad in Cusco on Aug. 27, 2010.

The project will last from 2010 to 2012 with grant aid equivalent to USD2 million from KOICA, aiming at improving the skills and competencies of teachers and students in dentistry at UNSAAC, thereby contributing to the promotion of oral health in the region.

UNSAAC is the only school in the Peruvian city that has training facilities for dentists. However, the facilities are so small that most of its students go to the capital, Lima, for further training.

Dental disease is the second most frequently occurring form of disease in the high-altitude city, because its residents consume a high amount of sugar and its underground water is rich in lime.

Korean Culture – Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving Day

Chuseok (the fifteenth of August by the lunar calendar) is one of the three biggest national holidays in Korea. Another name for Chuseok is "Hangawi." "Han" means great or large, and "Gawi" means "middle." This may reflect the fact that Chuseok/Hangawi is in the middle of the lunar month of August. Chuseok on the 15th of August by the lunar calendar is often recognized by foreigners as the Korean version of Thanksgiving Day. Like the Thanksgiving Day of the United States, Chuseok is the day when families get together, express thanks to ancestors for a plentiful harvest and wish for another good year.
