Stewardship Reflections

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.”

(John 4:13)

Jesus reminds us that material things, even something as basic as water, can never satisfy us for long. When we build

our lives around material possessions, we always want more. True Joy and Peace only come when we follow Jesus;

when we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered.”

Campaign Corner

Welcome to the first edition of Campaign Corner! This will be a regular feature in which we’ll share news

and stories to keep you up to date on our progress towards funding our much needed new Corpus

Christi Elementary School & Parish Centre that will serve our whole parish community for generations to

come.

As you can see on our parish grounds, construction has begun! This is possible thanks to you, the parish

community, who in the past four years have helped raise over 70% of the $24.5 million projected cost.

As you can see in the chart, $6.5 million remains to be raised to fully fund Phase I, and our immediate

focus is to raise at least $2 million of that by September 2021 when the new School & Parish Centre are

scheduled to open. The good news is that through the celebration of Father Hamilton’s 60th birthday and

a number of generous donations since we’ve already raised $237,300 towards this goal!

Please reflect on your blessing and discern prayerfully the sacrificial gift you are able to make towards

this legacy. Every donation counts. As you consider your gift, please visit the Capital Campaign page of

the Corpus Christi Parish website where you’ll find information on the many ways that you can support

campaign. Please consider pledging a gift over 3 to 5 years so that the parish knows what it can count

on. And please also consider leaving a gift in your will - it can be the best way for you to make your

greatest gift.

3rd Sunday of Lent

We are almost half way through Lent, and I pray that you are experiencing many blessings from the

Lord as you accompany the Master while He is forty days in the desert. If you have not already established a

Lenten program, it is never too late, start today.

Please remember that we send out the weekly bulletin via email, and it is also posted on the parish

website. If you would like the bulletin sent to your inbox then just contact Helen at [email protected] and

we’ll put you on the list.

As well, the parish has a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account that you can follow for regular

updates on news items, weekday reflections and pictures of various parish events – especially the construction

on the School and Parish Centre.

Here is the digital/social media that we have:

to Bishop Barron’s great teaching videos.

All of these platforms, and the bulletin, are ways you can grow in your faith, and ways in which we are

striving to keep people in touch, informed and engaged in what is happening in the parish. We see to search for

Christ, to find Christ and in finding Christ to love Christ. He is our beginning; He is our longing; He is our

journey and He is our goal and end. He is everything.

Consider joining us in the Orientation Course we are running on April 4th, beginning at 10am in the

school gym. This course is for newly baptized Catholics, Catechumens presently in RCIA, new parishioners and

parishioners who have been here and want to learn a little bit more. You will get to meet some people you might

not know.

The Solemnity of the great St. Joseph is this Thursday, March 19th. Strive to make an extra effort to

MEMORANDUM

TO: All Priests, All Deacons, All Parishes

FROM: Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB

DATE: March 11, 2020

RE: COVID-19 Preventative Measures

This afternoon, British Columbia Premier John Horgan, Minister of Health Adrian Dix and Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry held a teleconference with faith community leaders from across the Province to discuss preventative measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. They emphasized that the situation is continuously evolving, and new recommendations will be made as circumstances warrant. Daily briefings on the coronavirus situation are posted each afternoon on http://www.bccdc.ca/.

Arising from today’s consultation, the following temporary measures are to be put in place immediately in all parishes of the Archdiocese of Vancouver:

Sunday Obligation

Out of consideration for the well-being of others in the community, the elderly, anyone with an underlying health condition and those who feel even remotely unwell are excused from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass.

If they have access to television or the internet, those who remain at home may watch Mass. Attached to this memo is also a Prayer for Spiritual Communion which may also be used in these circumstances.

In order to reduce social isolation, parishes are encouraged to find ways to mobilize people to make phone calls to those who must remain at home, and to provide services such as delivering food and necessary items. Being in regular contact with the parish community will alleviate loneliness for the homebound.

Page 8: Our Vision - Corpus Christi · -Testimonial from retreat. Do you know what it would feel like to feel peace again? Your Rachel’s Vineyard™ team understands that yearning and invites

Reception of Holy Communion

As a result of direct consultation with the Public Health Officer, the faithful are strongly recommended to receive Holy Communion only in the hand.

Those distributing Holy Communion are encouraged to avoid direct skin-to-skin contact when placing the Host into the hands of the faithful. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should not receive the Precious Blood before the general distribution of Holy Communion. Hand sanitizers should be used, or washing carefully with soap and water practiced, before and after the distribution of Holy Communion. Furthermore, no one should feel obligated to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion if they would rather not at this time.

Respecting the right of the faithful to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, an announcement is to be made, beginning on the weekend of March 14/15 and for all subsequent Masses during this period, that those who wish to receive Communion on the tongue should come forward after all other communicants have received. Alternatively, one priest, deacon or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion can be designated specifically to distribute Communion only on the tongue.

Kiss of Peace

For all Masses, it is recommended that celebrants/deacons omit the Kiss of Peace from the liturgical rite, as is permitted by the Roman Missal.

Parish Events

For all parish activities, the following recommendations should be followed:

Hand sanitizer or hand washing stations should be available to all at the entrance of the church, parish hall and other parish facilities;

Meeting rooms should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each activity;

The Public Health Officer suggests that people maintain a two-metre space (approximately two arms’ length) between one another, to reduce any potential transmission of the coronavirus.

Page 9: Our Vision - Corpus Christi · -Testimonial from retreat. Do you know what it would feel like to feel peace again? Your Rachel’s Vineyard™ team understands that yearning and invites

These steps are taken solely for the safety of the faithful in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Please join me in praying for all those who have become sick from the coronavirus, those attending to the sick and those working to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. It is my hope that these measures, and any that follow in the coming days, will only be needed for a short time.

7 Amazing Ways to Live the Corporal Works of Mercy Throughout the 7 Weeks of Lent

The seven weeks of Lent makes for an opportune time to incorporate the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy into your spiritual life. Embracing these “charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs” will help you grow closer to Christ as you follow His example of serving others. This guide will help you on your mission to living the 7 corporal works of mercy throughout Lent. Week 1: Feed the hungry Action: Get a group together to make care packages. Fill ziplock bags with apples, granola bars, chips, peanut butter packets, and other snack foods. Drop off at a local shelter, food pantry, or pass out on the streets to the homeless. Prayer: Lord, fill the hungry with Your love and mercy. Provide for their physical and spiritual needs. I pray that each person who receives this care package would only hunger for more of You!

Week 2: Give drink to the thirsty Action: Donate baby formula to a pregnancy center or foster care agency in your city. Prayer: Lord, we pray for all those who thirst, especially for newborn babies in need of nourishment. May this gift of formula help their caregivers to find hope in You and learn to trust in Your ways.

Page 12: Our Vision - Corpus Christi · -Testimonial from retreat. Do you know what it would feel like to feel peace again? Your Rachel’s Vineyard™ team understands that yearning and invites

Week 3: Shelter the homeless Action: A quick Google search will help you find instructions on how to make DIY No-Sew Fleece Blankets. Take the time to make one or more of these blankets to donate to a shelter or distribute to the homeless in your area. Prayer: Lord, provide the warmth of Your love to all those who are without a home. Send your angels to protect them and keep them safe in You.

Week 4: Visit the sick Action: Call a nursing home and ask if there are any residents needing a visitor. Schedule a time to visit. Bring games and prepare questions to start conversations. Prayer: Lord, the elderly are a gift to our generation. Help me to value them, love them, and care for them. Comfort them as they prepare to spend eternity with you.

Week 5: Visit the prisoners Action: Make Easter cards with joyful scripture verses and send them to a prison. Prayer: Lord, show your mercy to prisoners. Help them find freedom and courage in Your unending love.

Week 6: Bury the dead Action: Bring flowers and visit the grave of a deceased loved one. Clean up the area where they are bur-ied. Prayer: Lord, we pray for all the souls who have gone before us. May they find eternal happiness and joy in Your presence.

Week 7: Clothe the naked Action: It’s time to clean out your closet and donate the clothes you no longer use. Don’t stop there! Give away a few of your beloved items, or buy a new outfit to donate. Prayer: Lord, provide for those lacking basic necessities. Help me to remember to give what I can to help those in need.
