    "REBARS" --- REINFORCING BAR DEVELOPMENT AND SPLICE LENGTHS

    Program Descripio!

    "REBARS" is a spreadsheet program written in MS-Excel for the purpose of determining reinforcing bar

    development and splice lengths. Specificall! the development lengths and splice lengths for straight bars in

    tension as well as compression are determined. Also! the development length for standard hoo bars is

    determined. #he provisions for development and splice lengths are included for high seismic ris applications

    per A$% &'(M-)*! $hapter +'. #here is also a worsheet which contains reinforcing bar data tables.

    development and splice lengths for a "top" bar and an "other" bar in tension! the straight development and

    splice lengths for the bar in compression! and the tension development length of the bar as a standard hoo!

    all at one time. A complete table of reinforcing bar development and splice lengths is also created.

    &. #he A$% "Soft Metric" reinforcing bar si1es are 2')! 2'&! 2'3! 2'4! 2++! 2+*! 2+4! 2&+! 2&3! 25&! and 2*6.

    #hese correspond directl to the 7.S. bar si1es 2&! 25! 2*! 23! 26! 2(! 24! 2')! 2''! 2'5! and 2'(! as the bar

    designations represent the exact metric conversion of bar diameter rounded to the nearest whole millimeter.

    5. #he "$alc /evelopment ,Euro Metric" worsheet! for a given reinforcing bar si1e! determines the straightdevelopment and splice lengths for a "top" bar and an "other" bar in tension! the straight development and

    splice lengths for the bar in compression! and the tension development length of the bar as a standard hoo!

    all at one time. A complete table of reinforcing bar development and splice lengths is also created.

    #his worsheet can be utili1ed for cases where the design concrete code used is A$% &'(-)*! but where the

    reinforcing bars to be provided are European ,British Standard bar si1es! not 7.S. bar si1es.

    and /*). #hese do not correspond directl to the 7.S. bar si1es nor to the "Soft Metric" bar si1es! as the bar

    designations represent the exact bar diameter expressed in millimeters.

    bar properties as well as reinforcing bar areas based on spacing using units of mm8+9m.
