>> Farm owners to lay criminal charges
JYOTHI LALDAS and JEFF WICKS
AN Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) protester was killed andthree others were injured after

It hasbeenreported that theparty’sillegal land invasion protest at GreenFields farm in Ballito - which they in-vadedonSunday-becameincreasing-ly dangerous when protesters movedonto the N2 and stoned passing vehi-cles.
According to theUmhali SAPS, offi-cerswere on theway to the scene afterreceiving reports of the stoning whenthe accident occurred.
It is believed that the leaders of theEFF group then disappeared from thescene leaving emergency services tohandle the situation.
However,oncepoliceandemergen-cy services exited the scene the EFF

will lay criminal charges against theEFFbrigadewhotriedtostagethelandinvasion.
Ian Deetlefs, who represents theowners of the farm, said the land in-vaders had vacated the hilltop where

Deetlefs said one “rudimentary”shack that had been constructed hadalready been pulled down.
“There is a group of about 70 ofthem waiting on the boundary of thefarmand thepolicearemonitoring thesituation there.”

“This land-grab is part of our pro-vincial programme to claim land forour members.
“This is not only happening inBallito, but all over the province.
“Ourmembersfromthatareadonothave places to build on so weencouraged them to look for land andoccupy and start to build their homes.
“They are going to erect theirhouses and once they have been therefor 48 hours they cannot legally be re-moved. If the governmentwants to re-move them they must go and accom-modate them somewhere else,”Ndlovu said.
“If they even try to move us we willmeet them in court,” he added.

MANY foreigners come to South Africaseeking refuge and safety. They have aright to be protected and assisted.
South Africa must not forget how itsown people sought refuge in other countries in the apartheid era, and how theywere given asylum and assistance.
They were certainly not persecuted ortreated as criminals. All foreigners cannotbe accused of criminal elements most foreigners are law abiding persons who haveentered South Africa legally.
Such are protected and share similarrights as citizens. Criminal elements mayexist among some foreigners just as muchas it exists among some South African citizens.
Foreigners cannot be accused of takingjobs from locals. Generally foreigners undertake jobs that citizens are unwilling to
take.Many foreigners become vendors on
streets and townships, an activity fromwhich no other South African is barred.
Xenophobia tarnishes the image ofSouth Africa internationally. Since the advent of democracy South Africa became abeacon of hope and a model example forthe rest of the world.
The recent attacks in Durban, Sowetoand Khayelitsha threaten foreign investorconfidence and our growing tourism industry.
Moreover global professionals possessing the muchneeded skills that a developing South Africa requires are reluctant torelocate to South Africa.
Xenophobia, in essence, is racist andprejudiced behaviour. It discriminates between South Africans citizens and citizens
of other nations. It arises out of the perception that South Africans are superior andbetter while persons of other nationalitiesare secondrate.
There has been a lack of firm actionfrom the South African government sincethe widespread 2008 xenophobic attacks.
The socalled interministerial committee established by government to addressxenophobia has not been heard of since itsinception subsequent to the 2008 attacks.
There is a vacuum of condemnation ofxenophobia from the president.
There is no clear message from government. Government statements about xenophobia are ambiguous. As a result 35%of South African citizens feel that there isno danger to saying bad things about foreigners.
Governmenthasnotreprimandedorre
proved King Goodwill Zwelithini for his recent statement that foreigners should"pack their bags and leave" South Africa.
Government has failed to restrain or impeach communities committing xenophobic crimes.
Why has government failed to coordinate a law enforcement response thataims to arrest anyone responsible for inciting violence against foreigners or destruction of their property?
Perhaps reprimanding their voters goesagainst their political ideology consideringthe upcoming local government electionsnext year.
In the state of the nation address thepresident downgraded foreigners when hebanned them from owning land in SouthAfrica.
This has not been clarified to date and
thus sends a clear message to the grassroots that foreigners are not welcome tostay in South Africa.
The demilitarization of our country’sborders after 1994 was an error of government. The new government associatedborder military with colonialism & apartheid. The removal of proper border controlmechanisms saw literally millions of people gaining entry to South Africa illegally.
Government does not have any socialpolicies in place to teach South Africansabout refugees, immigrants or our country's international obligations. Government has failed to teach its citizens to accept population diversity.
Councillor Nel SewrajACDP KZN provincial executive
chairman
Party blames government for xenophobia
IT is time to become realistic. The countryis in a mess and wanton spending by irresponsible officials, whom are not qualifiedto perform their duties, has become a hugeproblem.
An excellent example is the R1,2 millionspent on a Christmas party which clearlydoes not fall under the scope of what ratepayers hard earned funds are to be spenton.
We all pay rates, but what is it that we
are paying for? We pay for all services exceptfor the total mismanagement of the fundswhich is included in our rates bill.
We have requested the qualifications ofall municipal staff. Apparently most do notqualify for the standards required.
No question, BEE is the single most important factor behind this shocking mess.
It is time for all people to stand togetheras enough is enough.
Eskom is in financial dire straits caused
by municipalities’ nonpayment of funds. It is time Eskom took over and the public
dealt directly with Eskom. Eskom couldcharge municipalities more and the peoplemight pay less so it is a winwin situation.
“We are facing a national disaster thanksto the ANC regime.
“The past cannot be blamed for the incalculable harm to the economy and theenormous losses in money and jobs.” Professor Christo Viljoen exEskom board andexNersa member.

I WAS sickened as I watched ourpresident giggling inanely whileMugabe insulted South Africanhistory in the person of Cecil JohnRhodes.
What a show he put on. Icouldn’t help wondering whatNelsonMandelawouldhavemadeof his performance.
I amsure that theMadiba, whopersuaded a people with a frac-tured and wounded past, to put it
all behind them and build a coun-try together would have beenmore than a little disappointed.
Like many great characters inhistory (including Shaka, andGhandi) Rhodes was certainly noangel. But he achieved a lot forbothSouthAfricaandZimababwe- and left a legacy that all coloursand genders are benefiting fromtoday.Hewasamanofhis time’aswasShaka,GhandiandChurchill.

God never promised us roses without a few thorns, and he never promised us heaven on earth withouta bit of hell. And when our dad was born, he neverpromised us that he will live to be old and grey. Hepromised to lend him for awhile, for how long, he didnot say. For those who have a dad love them whileyou may. Because the world becomes a differentplace when god takes him away. SA escapes Lexus, Hilus,RAV4 recall
TOYOTA is recalling 261 114Lexus and Toyota brand vehicles in the US because varioussafety systems, among themstability control and antilockbrakes, could stop working.
The automaker is recalling vehicles from model years2012 and 2013 because documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration say an electrical component in the brakeactuator which adjustsbrakefluid pressure to eachwheel might experience increased resistance,
That could lead to reduced vehicle control and anincreased risk of a crash asvarious safety systems, including traction control, become inoperative. US Toyota
officials could not immediately be reached to comment.
Included in the the recallare 54 010 Lexus RX350crossovers and 100 052 Toyota Tacoma pickups (Hiluxin South Africa) from modelyears 2012 and 2013 and107 052 RAV4 SUV’s assembled in 2012.
Not all of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S. but Toyota SA says its products are sourced elsewherethan the U.S. so are not affected.
Toyota also recalled all1.9million of the thirdgeneration Prius sold worldwidedue to a programming glitchin their hybrid system.
