while he was said to be still stabbing Moonsamy.

“Moonsamy did not scream as she was being stabbed and her husband kept on saying 'I love you' as he stabbed her over and over.

“The driver and the conductor with the help of others managed to pry the man off the woman as the man kept coming back,” said the source.

Once the driver got to Moonsamy, moments later Sugandren Naicker allegedly stabbed himself.

A call was made to the paramedics. Unfortunately, Moonsamy succumbed to the wounds and her body was still in the taxi at the scene, four hours after her murder.

Acco rd ing t o Ma jo r Thulani Zwane of the SAPS KZN Media Centre, the suspect allegedly stabbed himself in the stomach.

“He was immediately arrested and taken to hospital for treatment under police guard. The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Zwane. Naicker appeared at Court and was denied bail . He is in Westville Prison.

Spousal abuse in the spotlight…

Lorraine started fighting at a local Primary school. Their twin boys were attending the first day of Grade one. Security officials had to intervene.

M o o n s a m y M a j i d , Lorraine's Dad, said that his daughter's seven year long relationship with his son-in-law and alleged murderer, was rife with physical abuse.

Lorraine's sister relates an incident in the past where she claimed that she found the former couple on the floor, with Naicker allegedly holding “a butcher's knife” over his late wife.

Also on that Wednesday midday, Majid accompanied h i s d a u g h t e r t o t h e

KwaDukuza SAPS to open a charge.

“My daughter opened a case of assault and a protection order was opened against Naicker,” he said. The SMS of the case number w a s r e c e i v e d b y t h e deceased's family on the day of her murder. Majid added “if the police arrested that man then it would have been a different story.”

Accord ing to Penny Dhaver, Senior Social Work Manager at Child Welfare, domestic violence and family breakdown are one of the main causes of family murders in the country. These are risk factors that are associated with intentional

deaths more frequently.“ M o s t w o m e n a r e

murdered by their husbands or their boyfriends. Family murders often leave close knit communities in shock. It i s a lways diff icul t to understand why one would kill loved ones. Confronting such crimes raises public interest in family murders and how we can prevent it. Men are predominantly responsible for family murders,” she said.

She added that these murders are committed in the heat of passion and are motivated by jealousy and r e v e n g e f o l l o w i n g a separation, divorce and extra marital relationships. Other

potential risk factors include j o b p r o b l e m s , l e g a l p r o b l e m s , f i n a n c i a l difficulties, social stressors, interpersonal problems, p sych i a t r i c p rob l ems , feelings of personal failure, drugs and alcohol abuse.

Dhaver said that these crimes can be prevented if family members are more informed about the potential danger of having someone who is severely mentally ill in the home and may have shown violent tendencies in the past.

“ P r e d i c t i n g f a m i l ymurders is challenging. The complex i ty o f f ami lymurders makes it almost impossible to anticipate as practitioners in the policing and justice systems or those working in the context of domestic violence,” said Dhaver.

Lorraine's funeral was held at her home this past weekend (Saturday). She leaves behind her children: 16-year-old daughter, her six-year-old twin sons and her three-year-old daughter a s we l l a s he r Mom( M a r i a m ) , M e l a n i eMoonsamy and Anilee Majid (sisters) and her brother Adrian Majid.

On Tuesday midday, last week a CDB Fuel Depot owner and h i s pe t ro l attendant caught up with a woman who attempted to pay for paraffin with an illegal / counterfeit R200.00 note.

A warning to the public again to practically check that you are not receiving a worthless piece of paper that looks like cold hard cash. Thanks to the INTAGLIO printing method used to produce official money or currency, the process results in a raised surface to the print surface due to the thick ink. There are numerous ways to identify a legitimate R200.00 from the counterfeit…

• T h e “ 2 0 0 ” t h e denomination numerical on the bottom right of Nelson Mandela (Madiba) is unique in that if you tilt the note slowly, front to back; the co lour changes from magenta to green and vice versa important.

*This optical variable ink is also on the R50, R100 banknotes on the front bottom right and is also

BEWARE of counterfeit R200 notes

printed in colour changing ink. When the R50 and R100 banknotes are tilted, the colour changes from green to gold.

When held up to the light, the full image of Madiba's face is visible on the note. It will not produce on colour copiers.* The image is found on the front of the note, on the left of centre and you must be able to see Madiba's eyes, mouth, nose and ears.

What you should do w h e n r e c e i v i n g abanknote:

Don't hesitate or feel embarrassed about holding a banknote up to the light, feeling for intaglio printing or flicking the banknote and l i s t e n i n g f o r t h echaracteristic sound.

• If you're in a bank, insist on the manager (and the police) being called. And if you've received the money from a customer at work, call the police immediately.Under no circumstances, be a hero! Just get the banknote replaced, leave and report the matter to the police. - South African Reserve Bank.

Learners and school fees…

The parents of a Grade 10 learner at a local secondary school approached the Xpress Times alleging that said learner was asked to leave the school premises because he was still owing school fees for the previous 2015 year.

According to the South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996); no child can be turned away, regardless of whether or not they owe school fees.

The Act states that parents can apply to the School Governing Body for an exemption under certain circumstances.

House robbery suspects arrestedBy Xpress Reporter

Umhlali Detectives, Umhlali K9, Umhlali VisPol Task Team and Crime Intel l igence conducted an operation at Shakaskraal on Tuesday, 12 January 2016.

According to KZN SAPS Lia ison Off icer , Major Thulani Zwane, they were following up on information regarding suspects who allegedly held up a home owner on New Year's Eve.

Child Welfare uniform drive

Limited job opportunities and retrenchments have resulted in high unemployment rates. As a result many parents cannot meet the educational needs of their children. The cancellation of grants and the lack of supportive r e s o u r c e s a l s o contribute to parents' inability to provide their children with their most basic need education.

Child support grants cater to children up to the age of 18 years. According to the new Children's Act, children can attend school up to the age of 21 years. Many widows and single parents with children over the age of 18 years have no source of income and are unable to meet their children's educational needs.

“Two suspects were arrested and one managed to flee prior to police arrival at his house. The suspects were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of property suspected to be stolen,” he said.

He added that both suspects aged 18 and 22 respectively,

appeared in the Umhlali Magistrates Court last week and will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court facing a house robbery charge.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant G e n e r a l M m a m o n n y e Ngobeni praised the members for their hard work in making sure that those involved in any form of criminal activities are

behind the bars. “We also thanked the

community for their efforts in fighting crime by giving valuable information to the police. Recovered firearms will still be taken for ballistics tests to establish if they were used in any crime in the province. Our officers will not rest until the outstanding suspect is arrested as well,” she said.

Vehicle bursts into flames near

BallitoBy Xpress Reporter

Occupants of a vehicle are lucky to be alive after a crash on the R102 between Ballito and Umhlali on Sunday.

According to Chris Botha of Netcare, the vehicle veered off the road, rolled down an embankment and burst into flames.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the occupants of the vehicle had miraculously escaped from the wreckage, and only sustained minor injuries.

“Medics treated them at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for the care that they required,” said Botha.

17 injured in toll crash

By Xpress Reporter

At least 17 people were injured when a minibus taxi crashed into concrete barriers at the Mvoti Toll Plaza on Friday, 15 January 2016.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Chitra Bodasing, paramedics and other services arrived on the scene and found the area in “chaos”.

“The taxi, found at one of the toll booths, was badly damaged. One man had to be extricated from the taxi by fire and rescue services.”

He added that injuries were found to range from minor to critical.

“All the patients were treated and transported to various hospitals. The cause of the incident was unknown and local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” said Bodasing.

The Xpress Times spoke to citizens in KwaDukuza and asked them about whether or not they will be voting in the upcoming local elections. They were also asked whether they think that college students should get more involved in politics. Here's what they had to say:

Thembilihle Mpanza “I will be voting. In the past, we were not

allowed to vote, so I am practising my right. As a youth, I feel privileged to cast

my vote for who I feel is t h e r i g h t leader. It is important for us to get more involved in

Alisha Samlall

“I have never voted before, but I will most likely be voting this year. It is important for the youth to get involved in politics because we are still young and will make an impact on the future of our country.”

Nirupa Sing “No, I won't be voting. It seems as

though my vote won't make a difference. However, I do feel that college students should get more involved because they are the future leaders.”

Africa Mthembu

“Yes I will vote this year. My vote will make a difference and people should vote because they get to make an impact on the way our country is run. I do feel that college students should become more involved in politics.”

Deshlan Naidoo “Yes, I will be voting. There is a lot that

needs to change and every vote makes a difference. College students need to get more involved because the youth are the future.”

Anonymous“I will definitely vote. I think it's really

important to get involved and have a say in the way our country is run. Students are particularly important in getting involved because the future rests in their hands.”

Bad startTwo Glendale youths got

their New Year off to a very bad start indeed. Robert Ngubane alleges he was held up at the bridge leading to the recreation grounds at 7:30pm on 30 December. The culprits fled with R20. A passing police vehicle was stopped and chased after the culprits. Police dog Busta tackled one culprit whilst the second surrendered. No restContractor David Louw was

contacted by a sub contractor alerting him of a theft at their premises. Louw is currently undertaking renovations at the local railway station. The worker removed aluminium window frames and welding rods. He allegedly told the sub-contractor that he was going to

sell the items and no-one could stop him from doing so. Louw drove down to Stanger from Sydenham and with the help of police, Themba Ndlovu (41) was arrested and charged with theft. He was granted bail on New Year's Eve and is now expected back at court on 9 February 2016.

New diploma will help aspiring HR professionals

make a tangible difference in the workplace and economy?

Boston City Campus & Business College added a new Diploma in Human Resource Management (Dip.HRM) to its quiver of workplace-relevant, cutting-edge qualifications. This diploma is registered on level six o n t h e H i g h e r E d u c a t i o n Qualifications Sub-framework (NQF Level 6) and prospective students can register for the programme. “Human r e s o u r c e m a n a g e m e n t a n d development is a critical component in the world of work and we are delighted to launch this new qualification,” said Dr. Hendrik Botha, Head of Institution at Boston City Campus & Business College.

The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are equipped with t h e k n o w l e d g e , t h e o r y a n d methodology of the important disciplines in human resource management and development, socio-economics, industrial psychology, business and project management, labour law and industrial relations, and applied research methods.?The qualification provides exciting career opportunities in the fields of human r e s o u r c e m a n a g e m e n t a n d development, for example:

Junior researcher, analyst, or advisor

Consultant in HR management or industrial relations

“We pulled out all the stops to develop this new qualification as we believe there is a real need for it given the current economic and social conditions in South Africa,” Botha added. “Under any economic condition, companies and countries need to have a workforce that is happy and healthy and well looked after so they can be as productive and p r o f i t a b l e a s p o s s i b l e . H R professionals go a long way in e n s u r i n g t h e w e l l b e i n g a n d productivity of the working folk.” Boston's latest diploma in HR is accredited in the distance learning mode and students are recommended to make use of our nation wide Support Centres to complete their studies in as little as three years. I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his or her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty.

A good captain must be a fighter; confident but not arrogant, firm but not obstinate; able to take criticism without letting it unduly disturb him, for he is sure to get it and unfairly, too.

On his place in cricketing history: "The game of cricket existed long before I was born. It will be played centuries after my demise. During my career I was privileged to give the public my interpretation of its character in the same way that a pianist might interpret the works of Beethoven.”

HR management and development, industrial psychology, financialmanagement, project management, socioeconomics, public relations, labour law and industrial relations.

According to Dr. Botha this enables graduates to demonstrate initiative and responsibility in a professional or academic context where application of the principles and theory are emphasised as a basis for entry into the labour market, professional training, graduate study, or professional practice in a wide range of careers within civil society, the public or private sectors. On completion of the diploma, graduates will have the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to:

apply general HR management and development principles to real life situations

adhere to regulatory requirements in performing human resource functions

manage financial and technology resources in organisations

a n a l y s e d a t a a n d l e g a linformation?· demonstrate business management and project management skills

identify the socio-economic needs of society and display cultural sensitivity in workplaces

“We trust that the skills acquired by our graduates will be in demand and will allow them to make a tangible difference in the workplace whether in a for-profit, NGO or government environment,” commented Botha.

Over a river there was a very narrow bridge. One day a goat was crossing this bridge. Just at the middle of the bridge he met another goat. There was no room for them to pass.

"Go back," said one goat to the other, "there is no room for both of us".

"Why should I go back?" said the other goat. "Why shouldn't you go back?”

"You must go back", said the first goat, "because I am stronger than you.”

"You are not stronger than I", said the second goat."We will see about that", said the first goat, and he

put down his horns to fight.“Stop!", said the second goat. "If we fight, we shall

both fall into the river and drown. Instead I have a plan- I shall lie down, and you

may walk over me.”Then the wise goat lay down on the bridge, and the

other goat walked lightly over him. So they passed each other, and went on their ways.

“Success is consistency of purpose”

To all those that have excelled in the class of 2015, well done! Many years of hard work has paid off… the paths are many and make the right choices. Destiny is in the palm of your hand and continue to thrive and strive towards greater heights in realising your dreams.

Life is a field of unlimited possibilities. The Sky is the limit, reach out for the stars. The secret of success is consistency of purpose. Always remember, your focus determines your reality.

If you want to succeed you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.

To many that had challenges and did not do well, give it a second chance do not give up on your dreams it might take longer but you will arrive and shine again.

Remember failure and failure again is the secret ingredient to achieving the right level of success.

God bless you all. Every moment is a fresh beginning, enjoy 2016.

I have always been proud to be a South African and the watershed years of 1990 and 1994 were the most memorable. Our dreams were becoming realities, recognising the damage caused by apartheid and the high levels of poverty, racism and inequality in our country. Today, this hope and pride in our rainbow nation has been eroded to a point of despair. Our new dispensation was built on the freedom charter and the constitution. Unfortunately the principles for these sacred documents have largely been put on the back burner by many. Racism continues to dominate various aspects of our lives in this beautiful country. Virtually everyday people encounter naked acts of vile racism directed against them. With the advent of democracy 20 + years ago some things have changed and others have not. Racism for me, is a system of oppression for social purpose. In the light of the fact this kind of thinking that divides this nation instead of building it up and it must stop for all ourselves. Our past was founded on forms of domination, inequality and oppression which involved the

Councillor's Corneropportunity to start another

When the matric results for 2016 were released for the Ilembe region only receiving 51.93% this elat ion and headache combined as success and failure reared themselves among the thousands of matriculants. The grim picture of KZN being among the worst performing provinces in the country has to be of concern.

We may blame many factors for the poor results, but the reality is that our administrators of education need a serious revamp on how education is presented and run so that a significant improvement can occur. I believe, apportioning blame becomes meaningless, but seeking tangible and realistic solutions is important. I am a firm proponent of quality education, notwithstanding the many factors that may influence poor results.

Admittedly, many of our school pupils still languish under impoverished conditions not conducive to proper learning. I am saying there can be no asset more valuable than good education. It is a passport for self-worth and a weapon for survival anywhere in the world. I believe to those who suffered disappointment, do not despair.

Every road that ends in failure is an opportunity to start another, and as the classic saying goes: “It is not how many

absolute denial of freedom. How could the ideals of equality and freedom co-exist with the racism by stealth today? Racial injustice may be the most morally and intellectually vexing problem in the public life of this country. Discrimination continues to exist, both in mundane social interactions and in major institutional contexts in which l ives and opportunities are formed. These discriminatory practices harm people, they violate values of fairness and they block the further advance of racial equality. Racialised poverty is South Africa's biggest time bomb. If left unchecked it will destroy this country. Therefore, I call on, the President Jacob Zuma to amend the constitution and insert that racial and inequality comments are a criminal offence. The time has come for all of us to take our collective responsibility seriously and exercise the rights afforded to us by our democratic order and also vote a person with great experience and knowledge in the 2016 local government election who does not believe in racial and inequality, instead serves the people. Good luck to all parties.

God bless South Africa.

times you fall but the number of times you arise from those falls that determines your success.” And I truly believe that the race of life demands exactly that. Forget about how society views failure as they “do not walk in your shoes.” Good luck to the matrics of Ilembe for 2016.

Cllr Madhun Sing sets the record straight

I have been inundated with calls from DA supporters and wish to set the record straight. Many people read the captions of articles and not the body of the article thus leading to confusions.

It's true I have resigned as chairperson of the DA in the Ilembe District after serving for 16 years.

However I am still the ward 17 councillor, DA caucus leader and executive member of the KwaDukuza Municipality. I had an illustrious political career for 21years as councillor and will c o n t i n u e t o s e r v e t h ecommunity in need of assistance almost every day. Thank you ALL for your concern and support for the DA.

I hope my letter puts an end to all the confusion and let us join hands to win support from all communities in the 2016 elections.

Team Krispan dominates at Dyno Wars In December 2015 Gas Magazine

staged the biggest Dyno War event in the Province within a couple of weeks before announcing it and choosing venues in towns that had a Dyno Machine. However, KwaDukuza, at that point, was not on the list but a plan from the late Pranesh Govender & Preasen Naidoo's family's and friends had an idea of how to get on the list to put KwaDukuza and the iLembe Region on the map. Louis and his wife of Fabweld Engineering, son Leven Moodley and family, together with Niven of Niven's Breakdown service, Boeta Khan of Cantoni Lounge and their friends and family had worked tirelessly building a venue to put in a Dyno and parking bays so that they could be approved as one of the venues.

VENGO Performance is what they called it which is situated at Fabweld Engineering, it is a 1st class Dyno facility which was erected through the hard work of the Fabweld family & friends using a large portion of their property to build this venue to cater for the race enthusiast of KwaDukuza and who have been inspired by racing and fast cars by their late son Pranesh Govender to which his brother Leven and family have followed suit. Leven being an Opel fanatic and die-hard member of Opel

Primary schools cricket set to take off with a bang

Primary schools in the iLembe District should brace themselves for a bumper year of cricket in the under 11 and 13 categories when the iLembe and District Cricket Union Primary Schools league kicks of later this month. President, Desigan Pillay have urged coaches of schools to have their players in readiness for the league.

For these purposes, the Union has called an urgent

Owners Club SA had much to think about when Krispan's VW Team scooped most awards in several of the categories.

Despite the heavy rains, which was much needed, did not stop Team Krispan from taking part in their numbers with their VW's at the Dyno Wars which was also largely entered by various car clubs and individual drivers from KwaDukuza and surrounding areas. The event catered for Aspirated and Turbo classes to which Krispan had won in various categories namely: 1400cc, 1600cc, 1800cc, 2000cc, KO3 Turbo Charged, KO4 Turbo Charged and Open Class. Team

leader of Krispan Racing Team and well known sports administrator, Aadil Khan, when asked for a comment, said that he thanks to Krish and Preshen Naidoo, the owners of Krispan Motors in KwaDukuza for dedicating their time, knowledge and effort into building and modifying the cars to the extent of taking a 2000cc VW engine with a power capacity of 115 hp (horse power) into which now generates an enormous power of approximately 400hp at 1.5 bar boost. He went on by telling that all these cars were built and modified during the business hours and late hours of the night which could be seen by most of the passing

motorist on the R74 highway overlooking the workshop. He indicated that it started out small, going into the spending thousands of rands in modifying the cars but to date we bolster having a full MSA approved race car and some of the fastest cars on the North Coast and if not beyond.

Other participants at the event where the likes of w e l l k n o w n B r e a k d o w n Service owner Niven Govinder w h o l i t e r a l l y brought this event to a standstill when he arrived w i t h h i s T u r b o c h a r g e d B o x S h a p e d B M W a n d displayed what a wheel spin should look like after covering his car and part of the crowd in smoke and later that evening Gora's car care, who were also amongst the crowd, did later try the same but the bar was set too high by Niven.

Race enthusiast, residents of KwaDukuza and surrounding areas can look forward to the explosive off ic ia l opening of VengoPerformance during the month of March with a massive car Show and Shine together with the Dyno day for those who think that their cars have Horse Power.

Dawnheights win low scoring game

Dawnheights beat visiting Silver Saints by 57 runs in a low scoring KwaZulu Natal Challenge League (Stream II) 50 over league game played at the Country Club Grounds this past Sunday. With the torrential rain in the previous two days and with overcast conditions dominating on Sunday, batters found it difficult to score runs.

Dawnheights got off to a steady start with openers Arhad Singh and Surauv Singh putting up a partnership of 43 before Surauv was clean bowled by T. Nantder for 22. Arhad soon followed caught of the bowling of Nantder for 13. Mathew Dean and Adesh Bageloo combined to take the score to 99 before Dean fell to K. Naidoo for 22.

Owen Govender joined Bageloo and they took the total to 118 before Naidoo claimed the scalp of Bageloo for 26. Suhail Singh was sent for an early shower scoring just 2. Groenewald ran out of partners as the tail-enders failed to reach double digits with wickets falling regularly.

Dawnheights were all out for 185 in the 40th over. The pick of the bowlers for the visitors was Seelan Pillay who claimed 4 wickets wi th Naidoo

claiming 3 scalps. In reply, Saints were bundled

out for 128 runs in 34 overs. T.Namsaran top scored with 30 whilst there were contributions from Sachin Pillay and N. Chetty who scored 20 each w h i l s t D . G o v e n d e rcontributed 16.

The destroyer-in-chief was Dean who took 4 wickers 29 runs. He was ably assisted by Niki Misra who claimed 3 scalps for paltry 9 runs and Groenewald claimed 2 for 30.

There was little to smile about after the third Test between the Proteas and England ended two days a h e a d o f s c h e d u l e i n Johannesburg on Saturday.

Kagiso Rabada's maiden five-wicket haul had initially made for a buoyant Wanderers crowd as the Proteas looked to level the series, but by the end of the day it was all doom and gloom from a South African

AB: Youngsters will be better for defeatpoint of view.

AB de Villiers was a visibly distraught figure at the end of it all, but the Proteas captain backed his group of players and challenged them to turn things around when the fourth Test gets underway in Pretoria on Friday.

"I don't think the players we have are the issue … there's still something to work with there," said De Villiers.

Guiding the young players in the national set-up is something that De Villiers has spoken about at length and something that is clearly very close to his heart, and he believes that the 7-wicket thrashing in Johannesburg will make these players stronger.

"I think they'll learn a lot. Not long ago I was that youngster in the team …

going through a lot of ups and downs at Test level," the 31-year-old said.

"You learn a lot from that … it's important just to survive at the moment and for a youngster to get through this.
