as Deputy President of the ANC, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa visited KwaDukuza on Saturday, 9 April 2016.

Ramaphosa visited Mandeni, p a i d h o m a g e t o S h a k a kaSenzangakhona as well as Chief Albert Luthuli before arriving in Stanger Manor at 16h10.

Ramaphosa said that during his visit to various areas within the Ilembe District he noticed how hopeful young people were for the country.

“One would have expected

statesman and prime minister. Olof Palme was often described as a “revolutionary reformist.”

Ramaphosa, who fought in the struggle for the liberation of SA from Apartheid rule, has a history

that almost mirrors that of the late Madiba's incarceration and life's path.

Through correspondence with the University of South Africa (UNISA), where he obtained his B.

Proc. Degree in 1981, Ramaphosa joined the National Council of Trade Unions (NCTU) as a legal advisor.

Mr Kishore (KK) Bodasing, the p o p u l a r e d u c a t i o n i s t a n d

FAREWELL: Mr KK Bodasing who officially retired from the

Department of Education recently

community builder retired recently after serving the Department of Education with distinction for over 30 years.

He was appointed as principal of Harry Bodasing Primary in 2000, bringing with him a prolific background of studying and teaching in the fields of remedial a n d s p e c i f i c e d u c a t i o n complimenting his vast experience and was the longest serving principal at Harry Bodasing Primary.

Instilling quality and excellence into teaching and learning, he turned his attention to other areas of need at the school. His passion for community work soon saw him bring parents on board and a r e s u l t a n t s t r o n g s c h o o l -

community-family rapport. Many indigent learners and families benefitted from his networking with outside organisations. Peacework USA, partnered with the school to provide curricular and co-curricular support. Many local companies and organisations partnered with the school under his s tewardsh ip and regula r ly provided resources to ensure disadvantaged learners received quality education.

Harry Bodasing Primary School was twice nominated for the prestigious KZN Service of Excellence Awards as well as a commendation for excellence in Financial Management from the Superintendent General during his tenure.

One person has been seriously injured after a vehicle overturned on the N2 between Tinley Manor and the Umvoti plaza on Saturday, 9 April 2016.

Foster Parent's Day celebrated

Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza celebrated Foster Parent's Day on 8 April 2016. Miss N Mngadi and Miss P Shekwa coordinated a programme which was aimed at celebrating the unconditional support and warmth that foster parents bring to the children's lives.

At a Farewell Function in honor of Mr Bodasing, Circuit Manager Mr T Woodraj, said: “Mr Bodasing your retirement is not just a big loss to us but a loss to the nation. Principals like you are real assets who make ordinary children grow into outstanding citizens. The walls of this school will feel hollow, corridors will feel empty and classrooms will feel lifeless without the inspirational presence of a principal like you.”

Bodasing said that as he prepared for retirement, he reflected on the journey travelled with a sense of fulfillment and realised he had so

much to be thankful for.“Special words of appreciation to

my circuit manager Mr T Woodraj for his sound advice, guidance and support. My heartfelt gratitude to my family for standing loyally by my side, whispering sweet words of inspiration throughout this journey. I shall always be indebted to the ded ica ted band o fprofessionals with whom I have had the privilege of working with over the years, together with my dear l ea rners whose fondmemories I shall always carry in the depths of my heart,” said Bodasing.

Many children are cared for by foster parents, it is thus important that their roles be recognised and encouraged to continue being their pillar of strength. The programme was interactive. The foster parents interacted well with Ms G Gumede from SASSA who provided them with vast information including

f o s t e r c a r e g r a n t s , c a r e dependency grants, old age grants, disability grants and child support grants. Foster parents were awarded with certificates for their outstanding care of the children. It succeeded in raising essential awareness on foster parenting. The event was concluded with a lunch.

According to Chris Botha of Netcare, reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle left the roadway and overturned, its twisted frame coming to rest in the centre median.

“Paramedics arrived at the

scene and found that one person had sustained serious injuries. The patient was transported to hospital by the provincial p a r a m e d i c s f o r f u r t h e r treatment,” said Botha.

Y o u t h c o n t e n t , communications and social impact agency Livity Africa's concept known as Voting is power or VIP, saw close to a hundred youth interact with the K D M M a y o r a n d h i s delegation on Tuesday, 5 April 2016.

The VIP platform was conceived as a proactive response to voter apathy and democratic disengagement among young people. With almost half the population made up of young people, VIP bridges the gap between politics and the youth, ensuring that they take ownership of civic engagement and become the champions of the unique agendas they set. Utilising digi tal , media and l ive engagements, the national platform centralises the social, cu l tu ra l , economic and political themes of young people's lives in interpreting, i n t e r a c t i n g w i t h a n d monitoring South African politics, governance and policy.

In attendance was the Mayor of KwaDukuza, Cllr Ricardo Mthembu; the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Dolly Govender; local councillors, Cllr Magubane and Cllr Mfeka; local youth activist Sihle Khwela and Cebesile Mpanza from the

Mthiyane facilitated the discussion and over a hundred young people from various w a r d s i n a n d a r o u n d KwaDukuza were also in attendance.

Crime, drugs, cronyism, infrastructure and access to public facilities were some of the hot topics debated in a robust Town Hall engagement.

The event was designed to galvanise young people to participate in the 2016 Local Government Elections. The

issues discussed included c r ime and d rug abuse , nepotism and perceived favoritism for some wards. Also on the agenda was the provision and maintenance of local crèches, childcare facilities and the slow rollout of learnership and bursary opportunit ies for young people.

In a frank discussion, Mthembu and his team a c k n o w l e d g e d t h e i r shortcomings and their wish for more regular interaction, but also encouraged further

civil participation among the young people who were often absent from local forums. More youth specific forums were identified as an urgent need.

“The event was a great success. In fact the mayor invited the youth to come and participate in the budget next week. Engaging directly with young people is something they have been lacking as a Municipality,” said Teboho Makhetha, VIP's Public Participation and Engagement Coordinator.

Hanuman Chariot ProcessionThe Shree Hanuman Temple was established 34

years ago (1982) and is still running strong through the grace of Lord Hanumanji. We conduct weekly services on Mondays and have been rendering bhajans and kirtans whenever called out by the community.

The group have recently acquired the biggest Hanuman Murthi 2.5m tall in the North Coast for the Hanuman Chariot.

The programme will commence with 11 rounds of Hanuman Chalisa at 10am. Thereafter around 11:30am, the chariot procession will start from the temple (19 Rose Road, Stanger Manor) and proceed around Stanger Manor. The public is requested to participate and join us at the temple or the Stanger Manor bus terminal opposite Engen Garage. We look forward to your unwavering support and experience spirituality eternal bliss. Prasadh and meals will be served.

Beach Clean-up Weekend

One day a thirsty ant stopped to have a drink from the river. Just then he lost his balance and fell into the water and was washed away. A dove happened to be sitting in a tree nearby and saw what happened. He quickly plucked a leaf off the tree and threw it down into the water next to the ant. The ant was able to climb onto the leaf and was saved from drowning.

A while later a hunter came by with his trap. He started setting up his trap to catch doves. The ant knew what he was up to. “How can I let this hunter catch the dove that saved my life?” he thought. “I must do something! But how can a little ant like me save my friend from a great big man?” Then he had an idea. He hurried across the path, climbed the man's leg and then gave him a very sharp bite. “Owwww!” yelled the hunter and dropped his trap. The dove flew off. “Thank you, dear ant, for saving my life,” he called. “I'll never forget your kindness!”

“We offer R2m to Cllr Nel Sewraj to supply proof”

The article posted on 'Councillor's Corner' by Cllr Nel Sewraj on 1 April refers.

Perhaps aptly, the Letter in a 1 April publication appears more like an April Fool's joke with its unsubstantiated rantings and offensive diatribe rather than a public servant who has the interests of the downtrodden and disadvantaged at heart.

My initial response would have been that I should not dignify his diatribe with a response. However, the blatant untruths and mischief-making demands that we at least allay the concerns of the community that may arise out of these rantings.

To address the mains issues as per his comments:

He talks of philanthropic gestures unheard of in KwaDukuza previously. This comment is shockingly misinformed. He should take a little time to call the various Welfare Organizations and ask them if they can ever survive without the generosity of philanthropists like myself? Perhaps he has never heard of it because he has never been part of any contribution financially or otherwise to such needy causes.

I have been responsible for providing over R33 millions of donations to the KwaDukuza over the last ten years and most recently, an amount of R175,000 for the Food for Life Programme which provides thousands of plates of food to a desperate community. The utterances of Sewraj suggests that he does not support this generosity and charity and would rather let the community starve. Further I have contributed to over 120 charity organizations all over KZN totaling over R125m.

Letters to the Editor He has obviously been in long slumber if he questions why the local community was not informed of such a massive project. It has been in the public domain for over a year and support has been growing increasingly during this period. What is his definition of 'massive project' and why should it be shunned if 'massive

projects' became the lifeblood of the community through increased employment, escalating revenues to the Town's coffers and increased personal income generators for the entire community? What has he done for the upliftment of the community with his miniscule public support.

The processes of the Tender advertising and awarding complied with all the provisions of the PMFA and MFMA and if Sewraj had any evidence to the contrary, surely he should have produced it by now instead of churning up emotions with baseless comments. In any event, our proposals for the refurbishments and upgrading of the sporting facilities have been discussed within Council for many months and his comment therefore reflects a gross failure of Sewraj in not informing his miniscule constituency.

The R6 million Skills Development Centre was not a birthday gift. The project was a genuine, committed and much-needed social development contribution that will benefit thousands of unemployment citizens over time. Needless to say, with the concomitant effect of empowering the community through specialist skills, increased family incomes and higher standards of living. Does the miniscule ACDP want to deny the citizens of KwaDukuza the benefits of such unselfish upliftment efforts. We challenge Sewraj to call a meeting of the community and ask them if they reject such an initiative to develop and provide jobs for its citizens.

We have received widespread support from religious, cultural and community organizations for our charity work and proposed development.

Why has he not produced any evidence of

his allegations of us paying for buses for people to come to a meeting. In any case, why would he oppose the principle of downtrodden people “protesting in favour of job-opportunities” as he purports? Is he therefore against job-creation? I am so incensed by his blatant disregard for the welfare of the community that I have decide to throw a challenge to him to provide proof that I paid for these buses. If he provides proof of this within 7 (seven) days, I am prepared to offer a donation of R2 million to a registered Charity of his choice; and by the same token, I challenge him to resign if he cannot provide such proof within 7 (seven) days. Let the community now judge his bona fides and demand that he puts “his money where his mouth is”.

Sir, such rantings, false utterances and irrational commentary only serves to demonstrate his uncaring nature, his deficient appreciation of the needs of his desperate community and that he is completely out of touch with the reality of unemployment and poverty that prevails in that region. It is a clear reflection of a “captured politician” who champions the whims of his masters with vested interests rather the needs and challenges of a deserving community in desperate need of technical and economic empowerment.

I believe that people within the community should now challenge Mr Sewraj who creates mischief and misrepresentations by such misinformation, innuendos and false allegations. He should be simply asked what has he done personally that has contributed to the significant upliftment of the community. Let him then face the wrath of hundreds of people who have lauded our efforts for the Skills Development Centre as well as the Shopping Mall project with its hugely anticipated positive impact of job creation and income generation.

Local Clinic ServicesI recently had to take my toddler to a local

clinic, my first visit for this year. In just one visit I managed to notice so many areas that immediately needs improvement. Firstly, I do understand that with the clinic being a free service with limited staff, you are bound to experience a high volume of people, so a reasonable amount of waiting time should be expected. However with the correct systems this could be considerably reduced.

? Management have no idea how to organise systems so as to reduce waiting times and provide more effective service for patrons. These individuals visit the clinic not because they want to, it's because they NEED to. Furthermore most of these individuals are either old, sickly or have brought little kids.

? Staff that have little or no regard for their jobs. People wait in queues, while certain staff members are busy chatting to each other regarding personal matters, on cell phones and even painting finger nails. It should be brought to their attention that, yes clinic services is free to the public but, they don't do voluntary work. Individuals working in an industry that involves interacting and liaising with people should be abit more considerate.

? No clear cut notices as to how their system of operation works. First time patrons, are often left clueless as to the correct procedures to follow.

? At my visit only two doctors were present, yet every individual had to follow the queue to visit the doctor, immaterial of the reason for their visit. (e.g. The woman next to me had come to collect prescribed medication for her sister, I don't see the need and neither did she, for her visiting the doctor). Shouldn't there be a staff member scanning ques so as to assist clients much quicker, thereby helping reduce queues and assisting reduce the strain on the limited doctors available.

The clinic is one of the only free services available, let's not take that away from the community due to poor service.

I believe municipalities have structures and measures in place to overcome racism when it comes to jobs. I am surprised this is not the case. As for the Mandeni Local Municipality, this is very evident. You will never see an Indian in the supply chain department. This is questionable. Are we Indians over qualified for these posts? One may ask? NO! So then why is this so? The posts for librarians were also open. Many

qualified and unemployed Indians and Whites also applied. Was any one of them successful? The answer is a big, NO! Why? So come on ratepayers, what does this echo? Plain Racism, that's what one calls it. The Indians are generally just over looked. Again...the traffic department has vacancies coming up. There is not a single Indian or White representation in this department. Why? Because racism is the name of the game here. I'm sure, many of the above race groups did apply. So let's keep our eyes open and "Watch the space." The municipal manager most definitely has knowledge of the equity act for jobs. It is evident that racism and discrimination is practiced here. This practice harms the people and "violates values of fairness" and it blocks the further advance of racial equality. It is this kind of thinking that divides this nation instead of building it up. It must stop for ourselves. Marginalization continues to characterise the lives of other race groups. This is a painful legacy of apartheid. I believe all South

Africans regardless of race are woven into the fabric of this country and discrimination and racism must be under the bridge.

Trashing the streetsI am a resident of Balcomb Street,

Newtown, Kwa Dukuza. I have made the municipality aware on many occasions of the vacant property in the area which has an overgrown bush.

It is infested with rats and cockroaches and other undesirables. The verges on the road are deplorable and needs immediate attention. This too was brought to the municipality's attention but nothing was done to rectify the situation.

Our current councillor has done nothing although he must have seen this eyesore whenever he visited the area.

I enclose a picture of the verge opposite my home which clearly shows the filth in the area.

Goodness Nyathi was adult enough to settle her differences by apologizing to Lindiwe Sokhulu after they had an argument. She believed the matter had been settled. A few days later, Lindiwe met her and told her that she still had to settle their differences. A surprised Nyathi wasshocked when the woman began hitting her with an object and stabbed her with a screw-driver in her arm. Sokhulu (25) is due back at court on 3 June 2016.

Kwafel were leading by just a solitary point (4-3). However, the sheer experience of the Kwafel team showed in the singles games as they won 5 out of 6 singles to win 9-4.

Dawnheights hat trick weekend

Dawnheights U16 side kicked off the festivities for a fantastic weekend for them with a comfortable 37 runs victory over United in the iLembe District U16 league match played at the Gledhow Country Club. Together with the Senior A team Dawnheights scored a hat trick of victories over the weekend.

Batting first, the opening pair of Dawnheights, Santhir Bageloo and Arhad Singh put on a partnership of 22. Singh was the aggressor and Bageloo slow scoring only 4 runs in that partnership before he was caught by Y. Joosub of the bowling of M. The victorious Dawnheights U16 team

KDAC to host

breakfast run

KwaDukuza Athletic Club will host their annual breakfast run on 27 April 2016 from the Tinley Manor car park commencing at 05:00. All members are invited to attend and they could choose to participate in the 10km or 5km run or walk.

Members are also reminded that the new club vests are now available on request from the membership secretary.

KDAC hosts the weekly time trials at the Stanger Manor car park every Thursday at 17:15. All members are welcome to participate.

KZN Car Paints injects R3000 into Corporate league

KwaDukuza Volleyball Association received a major boost when KZN Car Paints Specialists injected a whopping R3000 into the Corporate League knockout tournament which is scheduled to get underway next Wednesday, 20 April 2017.

Revy Haripersaad, KDVA Corporate League coordinator was very thankful to Ashok Maharaj, Anil Mohanlal and Dumi Sithani, Directors of KZN Car Paint Specialists, for their generosity and enthusiasm in promoting this beautiful game amongst the older generation in pursuit of fitness in this generation.

The tournament is open to all males over the age of 35 whilst females of any age are welcome to join. The entry fee to the tournament is R300 per team payable to the treasurer, Rajiv Mathapersad prior to the draws.

The draws for the tournament takes place on 20 April at 6:30pm with the tournament scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm. Tournament director, Haripersaad has warned teams to be enter their teams timeously or they will be left out of the draw.

Teams will be drawn in two pools with the top two teams advancing to the semi-final scheduled for 27 April. Winners and runners up will receive trophies with all teams receiving braai packs after the final on 27 April.

Naeem. Singh soon followed for 17 with the score on 29 when he was caught and bowled by Naeem. Adesh Bageloo and Saurav Singh steadied the innings with Bageloo top scoring with 33 not out that included 4 boundaries and a towering 6. Sing contributed 24 not out that included 2 boundaries. Dawnheights eventually scored 87 in their allotted overs.

In reply, United could muster 50/6 in their allotted over. Opener U. Hoosen top scored with 30 that included 6 boundaries. No other batsman registered double digits.

This definitely will create a carnival atmosphere at the courts in celebration of Freedom Day.

Grove End, who have dominated the corporate scenes over the years will start as favourites to lift the crown. However, knowing that

tournaments are renowned to produce upsets, pundits cannot write off the likes of Frendz and Cool Leaders whilst Teachers will have to dig deep into their reserves to cause any kind of mayhem under the inspiration skipper, Yashin 'Play Sport' Tewary.
