Введение
Данный сборник текстов из Библии - это попытка отобрать выборочные
тексты, содержащие поучительные краткие истории с нравственным
содержанием.
Сегодняшнее современное общество через образовательные стандарты
второго поколения ставит перед учителем определенную задачу– «воспитание,
социально-педагогическая поддержка становления и развития
высоконравственного, ответственного, творческого, инициативного,
компетентного гражданина России», где «современный национальный
воспитательный идеал - это высоконравственный, творческий, компетентный
гражданин России, принимающий судьбу Отечества как свою личную,
осознающий ответственность за настоящее и будущее своей страны,
укорененный в духовных и культурных традициях многонационального народа
Российской Федерации».
Таким образом, духовно-нравственное развитие и воспитание
обучающихся является первостепенной задачей современной
образовательной системы и представляет собой важный компонент
социального заказа для образования. Нравственное чувство просыпается в человеке довольно рано,
приблизительно в трехлетнем возрасте и хотя наибольший расцвет его
наблюдается в пятнадцать или семнадцать лет, т. е. в таком возрасте, когда
ученики начальной школы почти забывают школьные познания, но и более
ранний возраст дает возможность воспитателю направить рост нравственности
в ученике на должный путь.
Многие ученые, педагоги, психологи рассматривают вопрос о
нравственном воспитании учащихся. Это Ушинский, Макаренко….
К. Д. Ушинский, подчеркивая роль воспитания в жизни ребенка, требует
от воспитателя быть «всесторонне образованным христианином», отдавая ему
приоритет по сравнению с «просто» учителем, т. е. человеком, который дает
знания, не ставя перед собой воспитательных задач . Писатель и богослов
первых веков христианства Климент Александрийский с изумительной
точностью вывел образ Божественного Педагога, показав всю возможную
высоту и полноту учительского служения .
Цель педагога — улучшение детской души, а отнюдь не научение ее.
Поэтому ему должно быть свойственно, прежде всего, умение воздействовать
на ее расположение и на весь духовный облик воспитанников.
«Подавление, оттеснение какой-либо сферы души, — пишет В. В.
Зеньковский, — неизбежно влечет за собой расстройство психического
равновесия, расстройство в иерархии психических сил. Дитя цельно, и всякий
разрыв в какой-либо сфере души неизбежно влечет за собой тяжелые
последствия» . Отсюда ученый делает вывод о важности для духовного (а,
следовательно, и физического) здоровья ребенка нормального развития
религиозной сферы.

«...религиозные образы в душе ребенка помогают развернуться лучшим
движениям детской души, — отмечает педагог, — изнутри согревают и
просветляют ее. Школа, которая не хочет иметь дела с религиозной сферой
ребенка... отбрасывает от себя огромную творческую силу и вынуждена
прибегать к суррогатам и подменам» .
Не принятые во внимание и своевременно не удовлетворенные запросы
духа компенсируются за счет других сфер. Это приводит к расстройству в
иерархии психических сил, а в социальной жизни проявляется как осознанное
или неосознанное стремление личности к жестокости, физическому или
моральному саморазрушению, которое проявляется в различных аномалиях
поведения (грубость, хулиганство, алкоголизм, наркомания, токсикомания,
самоубийства, участие в деструктивных сектах и пр. ).
Принимая во внимание внутреннюю целостность и иерархичность
строения личности (дух-душа-тело) школа должна равно заботиться о всех трех
сферах ее реального бытия.
Христианство, базирующееся на учении Библии, формирует все стороны
человеческой жизни, мышления, эмоций, поведения, деятельности по
отношению к Богу, и к окружающим людям. Нет ни одной стороны бытия
человеческой жизни, на которую не дала бы ответ Библия. Представляя
духовный мир Бога, она не просто как-то положительно влияет на человека, она
формирует личность и социум.
«Главную задачу воспитания, — пишет К. Д. Ушинский, — составляет
влияние нравственное» . О приоритете нравственного воспитания с
замечательной ясностью и образностью высказался И. Г. Песталоцци, назвав
его «морем бесконечной силы совершенной любви» . «Любить вообще, —
пишет прот. И. Базаров, — так близко сердцу человека, так естественно для его
природы. Но как любить, уметь любить — это задача жизни...».
Помочь в решении этой задачи и призвано духовно-нравственное
воспитание, цель которого — научить ребенка любить, явить ему примером,
словом и делом всю высоту, глубину и полноту этого поистине Божественного
чувства.
Существует огромное количество сказок, историй, рассказов,
содержащих в себе положительный смысл, нравственное воспитание, примеры
любви, добра, смелости…
Безусловно, можно выбрать любой текст и разобрать его,
проанализировать с нравственной точки зрения, обсудить плюсы и минусы
героев, их поступки, их мысли, чувства. Но являются ли эти герои
совершенством во всем?! Нет! Они все без исключения обладают
человеческими качествами. Следовательно, положительными и
отрицательными. От этого никуда не деться, от рождения в человеке есть и
светлое и черное начала.
Тогда, кого мы можем выбрать за образец совершенства, за идеал, к
которому нужно стремиться, чтобы быть человечнее?

Ответ один: Иисус Христос, который является образцом любви. Всей
своей жизнью он доказал нам как надо жить, поступать в самые тяжелые и
светлые минуты своей жизни. Его притчи дают образец правильного поведения,
образец духовно чистого нравственного человека.
Следовательно, наиболее подходящими текстами для нравственного
воспитания учащихся являются тексты из Библии и Евангелия.

Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast
of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said
unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of
every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may
eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst
of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it,
neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall
not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat
thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as
gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for
food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the

Genesis 4
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she

Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the
ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that
Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto
the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of
his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had
respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not
respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance
fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou
wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and
if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall
be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field,
that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I
my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from
the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy
brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive
and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Genesis 19
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and
Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to
meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the
ground;
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray
you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash
your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways.
And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned
in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a
feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city,
even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both
old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where
are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring
them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for
therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he
will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon
the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the
door.
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and
great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy
daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of
the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said,
Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked
unto his sons in law.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife,
and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife,
and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him
forth, and set him without the city.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy
life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be
consumed.
18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy,
which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some
evil take me, and I die:
20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is
it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not
overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore

23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the
LORD out of heaven;

26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered
Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which
Lot dwelt.
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him;
for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the
earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve
seed of our father.
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with
her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay
yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with
him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with
him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the
Moabites unto this day.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father
of the children of Ammon unto this day.
Exodus 20
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought
thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,
or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that
is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the
earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor
serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto
the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom,
justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the
young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase
learning; and a man of understanding shall attain
unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the
interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark
sayings.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and
instruction.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father,
and forsake not the law of thy mother:
9 For they shall be an ornament of grace
unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou
not.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent
without cause:
12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

regarded;
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind;
when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they
shall
not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall
destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Proverbs 2
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her
words;
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

it.
Proverbs 3
1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table
of thine heart: 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and
man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than
fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be
compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth
her.
19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the

30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32 For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.
33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the

3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my
commandments, and live.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get
understanding.
8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost

15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away,
unless they cause some to fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect
day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

4 The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing

19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man
spendeth it up.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence
thereof.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a
wicked mind?
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Proverbs 22
1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver
and gold.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are
punished.
4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from
them.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the
transgressor.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall
therein.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from
him.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall
surely come
to want.
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my
knowledge.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy
lips.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer

words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand
before mean men.

Matthew 5
1 AND seeing the multitudes, he went up
into the mountain; and he having sat down, his
disciples came to him.
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught
them, saying:
3 Happy the poor in spirit; for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
4 Happy they that mourn; for they shall be
comforted.
5 Happy the meek; for they shall inherit the
earth.
6 Happy they that hunger and thirst after
righteousness; for they shall be filled.
7 Happy the merciful; for they shall obtain
mercy.
8 Happy the pure in heart; for they shall see
God.
9 Happy the peacemakers; for they shall be
called sons of God.
10 Happy they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake; for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
11 Happy are ye, when they shall revile and persecute you, and shall say all evil against you
falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and exult; because great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the
prophets that were before you.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt become tasteless, wherewith shall it be salted? It
is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot by men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill can not be hid.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under the bushel, but on the lamp-stand; and it shines
to all that are in the house.
16 Thus let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father who is in heaven.
17 Think not that I came to destroy the law, or the prophets; I came not to destroy, but to
fulfill.
18 For verily I say to you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall not pass from
the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so,
shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them, he shall be
called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say to you, that except your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and
Pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye heard that it was said to those of old: Thou shalt not kill; and whoever shall kill shall
be in danger of the judgment.
22 But I say to you, that every one who is angry with his brother, without cause, shall be in
danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, Raca! shall be in danger of the council;
and whoever shall say, Thou fool! shall be in danger of hell-fire.
23 Therefore if thou bringest thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother has
aught against thee;

come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest haply the

26 Verily I say to thee, thou shalt not come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost
farthing.
27 Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt not commit adultery.

29 And if thy right eye causes thee to offend, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is

31 And it was said: Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of
divorcement.
32 But I say to you, that whoever shall put away his wife, save for the cause of fornication,
makes her commit adultery; and whoever shall marry her when put away, commits adultery.
33 Again ye heard, that it was said to those of old: Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt
perform to the Lord thine oaths.
34 But I say to you, swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36 Nor shalt thou swear by thy head; because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your word be, Yea, yea, Nay, nay; for that which is more than these comes of evil.
38 Ye heard that it was said: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
39 But I say to you, that ye resist not evil; but whoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek,
turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.
42 Give to him that asks of thee, and from him
that would borrow of thee turn not away.
43 Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt love
thy neighbor, and shalt hate thine enemy.
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, and
pray for those who persecute you;
45 that ye may be sons of your Father who is
in heaven; for he causes his sun to rise on the evil
and the good, and sends rain on the just and the
unjust.
46 For if ye love those who love you, what
reward have ye? Do not also the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what
do ye that excels? Do not also the heathen thus?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your
Father who is in heaven is perfect.

1 TAKE heed that ye do not your righteousness
before men, to be seen by them; otherwise ye have no
reward with your Father who is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest alms, do not sound a
trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues
and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I
say to you, they have in full their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand
know what thy right hand does;
4 that thine aims may be in secret and thy Father
who sees in secret will himself reward thee.
5 And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the
hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the
synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may
be seen by men. Verily I say to you, they have in full their
reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet,
and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and
thy Father who sees in secret will reward thee.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do; for they think that they shall
be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like to them; for your Father knows what things ye have need of, before
ye ask him.
9 Do ye, therefore, pray after this manner: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name.
10 Thy kingdom come; thy will be done, as in heaven, so also on the earth.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as also we forgave our debtors.
13 And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
15 but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance; for they disfigure their
faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily I say to you, they have in full their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;
18 that thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who
sees in secret will reward thee.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where
thieves break through and steal.
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and
where thieves do not break through nor steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body will be
light;
23 but if thine eye be evil, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee is
darkness, how great the darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or he
will hold to one and despise the other. Ye can not serve God and Mammon.

25 For this cause I say to you, take not thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye
shall drink; nor for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than
raiment?
26 Behold the birds of the air, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into barns; and your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 And which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow.
They toil not, nor spin;
29 and I say to you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 And if God so clothes the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the
oven, will he not much more you, ye of little faith?
31 Take not thought therefore, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or,
Wherewith shall we be clothed?
32 For after all these do the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need
of all these.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these shall be added to
you.
34 Take not thought, therefore, for the morrow; for the morrow will take thought for itself.
Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
Matthew 7
1 JUDGE not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall
be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall
be measured to you.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in
thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is
in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother: Let
me cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the
beam is in thine own eye?
5 Hypocrite! first cast out the beam out of
thine own eye; and then thou wilt see clearly to cast
out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6 Give not that which is holy to the dogs,
nor cast your pearls before the swine; lest they
trample them with their feet, and turn and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye
shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
8 For every one that asks receives; and he that
seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, of whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 And if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatever ye would that men should do to you, so also do ye to them;
for this is the law and the prophets.

13 Enter in through the strait gate; because wide is the gate, and
broad the way, that leads to destruction, and many are they who go in
thereat.
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow the way, that leads to
life, and few are they who find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps' clothing,
but inwardly are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them from their fruits. Do men gather grapes
from thorns, or figs from thistles?
17 So every good tree brings forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree
brings forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree can not bring forth evil fruit, nor a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
20 So then, from their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he
that does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in thy name, and in thy
name cast out demons, and in thy name do many miracles?
23 And then will I profess to them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye who work iniquity.
24 Every one, therefore, who hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to
a wise man, who built his house on the rock.
25 And the rain descended, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and fell upon that
house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
26 And every one who hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened to a
foolish man, who built his house on the sand.
27 And the rain descended, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus ended these sayings, that the multitudes were astonished
at his teaching.
29 For he taught them as having authority,
and not as the scribes.

1 AND on that day Jesus went out of the
house, and sat by the sea-side.
2 And great multitudes were gathered
together to him, so that he went into the ship and
sat down; and all the multitude stood on the
beach.
3 And he spoke many things to them in
parables, saying:
4 Behold, the sower went forth to sow.
And as he sowed, some fell by the way-side, and
the birds came and devoured them.
5 And others fell on the rocky places,
where they had not much earth; and forthwith
they sprang up, because they had not depth of
earth.

15 For the heart of this people is become gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their
eyes they have closed; Lest haply they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand
with their heart, And turn, and I shall heal them.
16 But happy are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.
17 For verily I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what ye are
beholding, and did not see, and to hear what ye are hearing, and did not hear.
18 Hear therefore the parable of the sower.
19 When any one hears the word of the kingdom, and understands not, then comes the evil
one and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is that which was sown by the way-side.
20 And that sown on the rocky places, this is he that hears the word, and immediately with
joy receives it;
21 and has not root in himself, but is only for a time; and when tribulation or persecution
arises because of the word, immediately he is offended.
22 And that sown among the thorns, this is he that hears the word, and the care of this world
and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and
it becomes unfruitful.
23 And that sown on the good ground,
this is he that hears the word and understands;
who bears fruit, and produces, some a
hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
24 Another parable he put forth to them,
saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a
man that sowed good seed in his field.
25 But while men slept, his enemy came
and sowed darnel among the wheat, and went
away.
26 And when the blade sprang up and
produced fruit, then appeared the darnel also.
27 And the servants of the householder
came and said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow
good seed in thy field? From whence then has it
darnel?
28 He said to them: An enemy did this.
The servants said to him: Wilt thou then that we
go and gather them up?

29 He said: Nay, lest while ye gather up the darnel, ye root up the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest. And in time of harvest I will say to the reapers:

31 Another parable he put forth to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of
mustard, which a man took and sowed in his field.
32 Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and
becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.
33 Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a
woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the multitudes in parables; and without a parable he spoke
nothing to them;
35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying: I will open my
mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.
36 Then having sent away the multitudes, he went into the house. And his disciples came to
him, saying: Explain to us the parable of the darnel of the field.
37 And answering he said to them: He that sows the good seed is the Son of man.
38 The field is the world. The good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; but the darnel are
the sons of the evil one,
39 and the enemy that sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the world; and the
reapers are angels.
40 As therefore the darnel are gathered up and are burned with fire, so shall it be in the end of
the world.
41 The Son of man will send forth his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all the
causes of offense, and those who do iniquity,
42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there will be the wailing, and the gnashing of
teeth!
43 Then will the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that has
ears to hear, let him hear.
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found
and concealed; and for joy thereof, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking goodly pearls;
46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a net, cast into the sea, and gathering together of
every kind.
48 Which, when it was filled, they drew up upon the beach, and sat down and gathered the
good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
49 So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will go forth, and will separate the wicked
from among the just,
50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there will be the wailing, and the gnashing of
teeth!

1 AT that time came the disciples to Jesus,
saying: Who then is greatest in the kingdom of
heaven?
2 And Jesus, calling a little child to him,
placed it in the midst of them,
3 and said: Verily I say to you, if ye do not
turn and become as the little children, ye shall not
enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whoever therefore shall humble himself
as this little child, he is the greatest in the kingdom
of heaven.
5 And whoever shall receive one such little
child, in my name, receives me.
6 But whoever shall cause one of these little
ones that believe on me to offend, it were better for
him that an upper millstone were hanged about his
neck, and he were plunged in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe to the world, for causes of offense! For it must needs be that causes of offense come;
but woe to that man, through whom the cause of offense comes!
8 But if thy hand or thy foot causes thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee. It is better
for thee to enter into life lame or maimed, than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the
everlasting fire.
9 And if thine eye causes thee to offend, pluck it out and cast it from thee. It is better for thee
to enter into life with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell-fire.
10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say to you, that their angels in
heaven always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.
11 For the Son of man came to save that which was lost.
12 What think ye? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them is gone astray, does he not
leave the ninety and nine upon the mountains, and go and seek that which is gone astray?
13 And if it be that he find it, verily I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety
and nine that went not astray.
14 So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones perish.
15 But if thy brother shall sin against thee, go show him his fault between thee and him alone,
If he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16 But if he hear not, take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three
witnesses every word may be established.
17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it to the church; and if he neglect to hear the
church also, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.
18 Verily I say to you: Whatever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and
whatever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall agree on earth, concerning any thing that they
shall ask, it shall be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
21 Then Peter came to him, and said: Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I
forgive him? Until seven times?
22 Jesus says to him: I say not to thee, until seven times, but until seventy times seven.
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a certain king, who desired to make a
reckoning with his servants.

33 Shouldest not thou also have had pity on thy fellow-servant, as I too had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was
due to him.
35 So also will my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one
his brother.

How readest thou?
27 And he answering said: Thou shalt love the

33 And a certain Samaritan, as he was journeying, came where he was, and seeing him had
compassion;
34 and coming to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and setting him on his

John 10
7 Therefore said Jesus to them again: Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door. If any one enter in through
me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out
and find pasture.
10 The thief comes not but to steal,
and to kill, and to destroy. I came that they
may have life, and that they may have it
abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good
shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is a hireling, and not a
shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees
the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and
flees; and the wolf catches them, and scatters
the sheep.
13 The hireling flees, because he is a
hireling, and cares not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd; and I
know mine, and am known by mine,
15 as the Father knows me, and I
know the Father; and I lay down my life for
the sheep.

beware of all covetousness; because a man's life
consists not in the abundance of his possessions.

What shall I do, because I have not where to store my
fruits?

eat, drink, be merry.
20 But God said to him: Fool! this night thy
soul shall be required of thee; and whose shall those
things be, which thou didst provide?
21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and
is not rich toward God.
22 And he said to his disciples: Therefore I say to
you, take not thought for the life, what ye shall eat, nor for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than food, and the body than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens, that they sow not nor reap; which have neither storehouse nor barn;
and God feeds them. How much better are ye than the birds!
25 And which of you by taking thought can add a cubit to his stature?
26 If therefore ye can not do even that which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow; they toil not, nor spin; and I say to you, that even
Solomon, in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 And if God so clothes the grass, which to-day is in the field, and to-morrow is cast into the
oven, how much more you, ye of little faith?
29 And ye, seek not what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, and be not of a doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after; and your Father knows that ye
have need of these.31 But seek his kingdom, and these things shall be added to you.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33 Sell what ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves purses that wax not old, a treasure
unfailing in the heavens, where a thief approaches not, nor moth corrupts.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Luke 15
3 And he spoke this parable to them, saying:
4 What man of you, having a hundred sheep,
and having lost one of them, does not leave the
ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that
which is lost, until he finds it?
5 And having found it, he lays it on his
shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And coming home, he calls together his
friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with
me; because I found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say to you, that so there will be joy in
heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over
ninety and nine just persons, who have no need of
repentance.
11 And he said: A certain man had two
sons.
12 And the younger of them said to his
father: Father, give me the portion of the
property that falls to me. And he divided to
them his living.
13 And not many days after, the
younger son gathered all together, and went
abroad into a far country, and there wasted his
substance in riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there
arose a grievous famine in that country; and he
began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to
one of the citizens of that country; and he sent
him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his
belly with the husks which the swine ate; and
no one gave to him.
17 And coming to himself, he said: How
many hired servants of my father have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him: Father, I sinned against heaven, and
before thee.
19 I am no longer worthy to be called thy son; make me as one of thy hired servants.
20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw
him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said to him: Father, I sinned against heaven, and before thee; I am no longer
worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants: Bring forth a robe, the best, and put it on him; and put a
ring on his hand, and sandals on his feet;
23 and bring the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat and be merry.
24 Because this my son was dead and is alive again, was lost and is found. And they began to
be merry.

25 Now his elder son was in the field. And
as he came, and drew near to the house, he heard
music and dancing.
26 And calling to him one of the servants,
he inquired what these things meant.
27 And he said to him: Thy brother is

28 And he was angry, and would not go in;
and his father came out, and entreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father: Lo,
so many years do I serve thee, and never
transgressed thy command; and to me thou never
gayest a kid, that I might make merry with my
friends.
30 But when this thy son came, who
devoured thy living with harlots, thou didst kill for
him the fatted calf.
31 And he said to him: Child, thou art ever
with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad; because this thy brother was dead
and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Luke 16
19 There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in
purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day.
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus,
who was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell
from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and
licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died; and he
was borne away by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The
rich man also died, and was buried;
23 and in the underworld, lifting up his eyes, being
in torments, he sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his
bosom.
24 And he cried and said: Father Abraham, have
mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of
his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in
this flame.
25 But Abraham said: Child, remember that in thy lifetime thou receivedst thy good things in
full, and Lazarus in like manner his evil things; but now here, he is comforted and thou art tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great gulf is fixed; that they who would pass
from hence to you may not be able, nor those from thence pass over to us.
27 And he said: I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldst send him to my father's house.
28 For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, that they may not also come into this
place of torment.
29 Abraham says to him: They have Moses and the prophets let them hear them.

30 And he said: Nay, father Abraham; but if one should go to them from the dead, they will
repent.
31 And he said to him: If they hear not Moses and
the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though
one should rise from the dead.

to Jerusalem, that he went through the midst of
Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he was entering into a certain
village, there met him ten leprous men, who
stood afar off.
13 And they lifted up their voice, saying:
Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
14 And seeing it, he said to them: Go,
show yourselves to the priests. And it came to
pass that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, seeing that he was
healed, turned back, with a loud voice glorifying
God,
16 and fell down on his face at his feet,
giving thanks to him; and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said: Were not
the ten cleansed? And where are the nine?
18 Were none found returning to give
glory to God, except this stranger?
19 And he said to him: Arise, and go; thy faith has made thee whole.
Luke 18
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray;
one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood, and prayed thus with
himself: God, I thank thee, that I am not as other
men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publican.
12 I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all
that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would
not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon
his breast, saying: God be merciful to me, the sinner.
14 I say to you, this man went down to his
house justified, rather than the other. For every one
that exalts himself shall be humbled; and he that
humbles himself shall be exalted.

4 Whoever therefore shall humble
himself as this little child, he is the greatest in
the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever shall receive one such
little child, in my name, receives me.
Matthew 19
13 Then were brought to him little children, that he might put his hands on them and pray;
and the disciples rebuked them.
14 But Jesus said: Suffer the little children, and
forbid them not to come to me; for to such belongs the
kingdom of heaven.
15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed

Zaccheus, and he was a chief publican; and this man

sycamore-tree to see him; because by that way he was

the poor; and if I took aught from any one by false accusation, I restore fourfold.

10 For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.
Luke 7
37 And, behold, a woman who was a
sinner in the city, learning that he is reclining at
table in the house of the Pharisee, brought an
alabaster box of ointment;
38 and standing behind at his feet
weeping, began to wet his feet with tears, and
wipe them with the hairs of her head, and
kissed his feet, and anointed them with the
ointment.
39 And seeing it, the Pharisee who
had bidden him spoke within himself, saying:
This man, if he were a prophet, would know
who and what sort of woman this is that
touches him; for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said to him:
Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. And
he says: Teacher, say on.
41 A certain money-lender had two
debtors. The one owed five hundred denбries,
and the other fifty.
42 And they having nothing to pay, he
forgave them both. Which of them therefore, tell me, will love him most?
43 Simon answering said: I suppose he to whom he forgave most. And he said to him: Thou
didst rightly judge.
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon: Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy
house, thou gayest me no water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with tears, and wiped them with
her hair.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, from the time I came in, ceased not to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say to thee, her many sins are forgiven; for she loved much. But to whom
little is forgiven, the same loves little.
48 And he said to her: Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they who reclined with him began to say within themselves: Who is this that also
forgives sins?
50 And he said to the woman: Thy faith has saved thee; go in peace.

33 Hear another parable. There was a householder, who
planted a vineyard, and put a hedge around it, and dug a winepress
in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husband-men, and went
abroad.
34 And when the season of fruits drew near, he sent his
servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.
35 And the husbandmen taking his servants, beat one, and
killed another, and stoned another.
36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and
they did to them likewise.
37 And afterward he sent to them his son, saying: They
will reverence my son.
38 But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said among
themselves: This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and have his
inheritance. 39 And taking him, they cast him out of the vineyard, and
killed him.
40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those husbandmen?
41 They say to him: He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out the
vineyard to other husbandmen, who will deliver over to him the fruits in their seasons.
42 Jesus says to them: Did ye never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders
disallowed, The same is become the head of the corner; This is from the Lord, And is wonderful in
our eyes.
43 Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a
nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44 And he that falls upon this stone will be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will
grind him to powder.
45 And the chief priests and Pharisees, hearing his parables, knew that he spoke of them.
46 And they sought to lay hold of him, but feared the
multitudes, since they held him as a prophet.
Matthew 25
1 THEN shall the kingdom of heaven be
likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went
out to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five
foolish.
3 The foolish, taking their lamps, took no oil
with them;
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with
their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all
slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight a cry was made: Behold,
the bridegroom! Go out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed
their lamps.
8 And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of
your oil, for our lamps are going out.

9 But the wise answered, saying: Not so; there will not be enough for us and you. Go rather
to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they who were ready went in with

saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answering said: Verily I say to you, I know you not.
13 Watch, therefore; because ye know not the day, nor the hour!

the scribes, who love to go about in long robes, and love
greetings in the markets,
39 and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first
places at the feasts;
40 who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense
make long prayers; these shall receive greater
condemnation.
41 And sitting over against the treasury, he beheld
how the people cast money into the treasury; and many that
were rich cast in much.
42 And one poor widow came, and cast in two
mites, which are a farthing.
43 And calling to him his disciples, he said to them:
Verily I say to you, that this poor widow cast in more than all
who are casting into the treasury.
44 For all cast in out of their abundance; but she, out of her want, cast in all that she had, her
whole living.
1 Corinthians 13
4 Love suffers long, is kind; love envies not; love
vaunts not itself, is not puffed up,
5 does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not its own,
is not easily provoked, imputes no evil;
6 rejoices not at unrighteousness, but rejoices with the

8 Love never fails; but whether there are
prophesyings, they will be done away; whether tongues, they

which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child; but now
that I am become a man, I have done away the things of the child.
12 For we see now in a mirror, obscurely; but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then
I shall know fully, even as I also am fully known.
13 And now remain faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither
cold nor hot. I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So, because thou art lukewarm, and
neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit thee out of
my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest: I am rich, and have
gotten wealth, and have need of nothing, and
knowest not that thou art the wretched and the
pitiable one, and poor, and blind, and naked;
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined
by fire, that thou mayest be rich, and white
garments, that thou mayest be clothed, and the
shame of thy nakedness not be made manifest, and
to anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayest
see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any one hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and I will sup with him and he with me.
21 He that overcomes, I will give to him to sit with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and
sat down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
