PREFACE The National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSO) has been producing StatisticalYearbooks,showingsocialandeconomickeyindicatorsofMongolia,alongwiththeirrespectivetimeseries,since1960.Duetothesocioeconomicdevelopmentofthecountry,theframeworkofindicatorsfortheYearbookhasbeenexpandedfromyeartoyearbyhavingstatisticalindicatorsandmethodologiesbytheNSOharmonizedwithinternationalcommonstandards. To make the Statistical Yearbook accessible and available to users, there aredescriptionsofmethodologiesandtechnicaltermsonkeyindicatorsinitatthebeginningofeach section concerned. In addition, some additional notes are included in the StatisticalYearbook. MigrationstreamtoUlaanbaatarcityhashighisacauseofpopulationinUlaanbaatarrapidlyincreasing.Asendofthe2009,populationdensityis236.7personspersquarekilometerinUlaanbaatar,increasedby11.9percentfrom2006,7.9percentfrom2007,andincreasedby3.8percentcomparedwith2008. In2009,about62.6percentofthetotalpopulationor1713.3thousandpersonshaveliving in urban areas. Particularly, more than half the population of Dornod, Dornogovi,Govisumber, DarkhanUul, and Orkhon aimags has living in urban areas, whereas inOvorkhangai, Dundgovi, Zavkhan,Arkhangai and in Tov aimags, about 80 percent of thepopulationlivesinruralareas. In2009,therewere716.5thousandhouseholds,whichconstitute61.5percentoftotalhouseholdsliveinurbanareasand38.5percentinruralareasandaveragefamilysizeis3.8persons. Populationnetgrowthratehasdecreasedduring19902005,whileithasatrendtoincreasesince2006.Last4years,thebirthshavebeenincreasingandthecrudebirthrateper1000populationreached25.5in2009,increasing1.5percentagepointscomparedto2008.Thenumberoflivebirthsreachedat69.2thousandthatshowanincreaseof29.0percentfrom2006,18.1percentfrom2007,and7.8percentcomparedto2008.Thesexratioatbirthinourcountryhas comingcloser to the international average, approximately103males per100females.Totalfertilityrateincreasedto2.7in2009from2.1in2006,2.3in2007and2.6in2008. Thecrudedeathratehasbeenrelativelystableduringthelastyears,whilesince2006itratherdecreased,anditreachedat6.2in2009,increasingby0.4percentagepointcomparedwith2008.Infantmortalityratehasbeendecreasingduringthelastyearshowever,inconnectionwithincreasedbirthrate,theIMRhasreached19.4in2008and20.0in2009,increasingby0.6percentagepoint.Infantmortalityrepresents8.2percentoutof16.9thousanddeathsin2009.Crudedeathratevariedbyaimags.In2009,thehighestcrudedeathratewasregisteredinUvs(7.3),Orkhon(7.3),DarkhanUul(7.2),andKhovsgol(7.1)andthelowestinDornogovi(5.3),andKhovd(5.4).In2009,lifeexpectancyatbirthreachedat67.96years,comparedwithpreviousyearincreasedby0.73pointandlifeexpectancyoffemaleis71.79yearslifeexpectancyofmaleis64.33yearsatthenationallevel. LABOUR FORCEMongoliaconducteditsfirstnationalLaborForceSurvey(LFS)infourquarterlyroundsin20022003inaccordancewithcommonmethodologiesrecommendedbytheInternationalLabourOrganization(ILO).Asaresult,itwasabletocaptureseasonalvariationsinlaborsupplyanddemand.InordertoimplementaprovisionoftheLawonStatisticsofMongoliaspecifyingthattheLaborForceSurveyshallbeconductedonaquarterlybasisandtoaugmentbasicdataonlaborstatisticsandmakeanalysesthatfullycoversemploymentpattern,aMethodologyforEstimationofEmploymentandLabourForceIndicatorswhichmetstandardconceptsandmethodologiesrecommendedbytheILOandreflectedthecountryspecificswasadoptedbyaJointResolution01/68/94of2009fromtheChairmanofNSOandtheMinisterforSocialWelfareandLabour.Statistics,reports,andsurveysrelatedtoemploymentandlabourforcearenowbeingcompiledandcarriedoutaccordingtotheMethodology.ResultsfromtheLFSshowsthateconomicallyactivepopulationin2009was1137.9thousand,ofwhich1006.3thousandor88.4%wereemployedand131.6thousandor11.6%wereunemployedpeople.44 45. Intheendof2008,nationalconsumerpriceindexroseby22.1%comparedwithpreviousyear,intheendof2009,increasewas4.2%whichismeangrowthtempdeclinedby17.9point.
