The design of the Hotel Jalta is one of the masterpieces of architect Antonn Tenzer.Experts consider Hotel Jalta from 1958 an example of the most valuable and most sophisticated of Pragues socialist realism architecture.

History of the Hotel Jalta

1945 A Soviet Army tank blasted away the original building during the May Revolution by mistake.

1945 - 1952 Space is cleared between two existing buildings in the location of the future restaurant.

1952 The Czechoslovakian socialistic government decided to build the most luxurious hotel in Prague as a cover-up for a Secret Shelter.

1954 Construction of the Hotel Jalta commenced; the first structures to be erected were a nuclear shelter, a secret hospital and a reservoir with drinking water.

1958 Opening ceremony held on 31st May for the Communist elites; on 1st June, the hotel was opened for the public.

1987 The socialistic enterprise Restaurants and Diners reconstructs the hotel.

1991 The Hotel Jalta is pronounced a national cultural monument.

1992The hotel is purchased by Japanese investors Nomura Bank and Miki Travel.

1996The investors complete the 7th floor; the number of rooms in the hotel is set to top the current number of 94.

2007

2008 On 20th June, the hotel is purchased and taken over by Flow East, Hotel Jaltas parent company. A complete reconstruction of the hotel and its restaurant started soon after.Hotel gets a restoration of the front facade
