The Litany to ThasaidonA grey-bound octavo printedanonymously in the USA in around

1937, the Litany purports to be avision of the world in several millionyears time. It primarily concerns thegods and magic of Zothique, the lasthabitation of mankind.

Sanity Loss 1D6/2D6; CthulhuMythos +8 percentiles; average onemonth to study and comprehend.

Spells: Contact Thasaidon (avatar ofNyarlathotep)*, Contact Mordiggian,Devil-Mist of Namurra (Create Mist

of Releh)*, Create Revenant/DestroyRevenant, Command Revenant,Enchant Globe of Growth,

Nightmare, Remortification*, SendDreams, Summon Stallions ofThamogorgos*.

Spells marked * only work inZothique.

Summon Stallions of ThamogorgosTo cast this spell, the caster must bein Zothique, and with armsoutstretched towards the sunset, mustutter twelve names which it is

perdition to utter, followed by theinvocation gna padambis devomprathungis furidor avoragomon.

Otherwise, this works as any othersummon creature spell, with theexception that the Stallions ofThamogorgos cannot be bound, andthat a small herd of the Stallions willappear.

It is usually advisable to get out ofthe way after having summoned thecolossal creatures. .

    Create Revenant/Destroy

RevenantCast on any intact corpse, no matterwhat its state of decomposition, thisspell raises the corpse as a semiconscious slave. Corpses raised inthis method retain some of theirintelligence and memory, althoughtheir past remains dim and cloudy.Stats remain as they were in life,

except that DEX and INT are halved, and APP is reduced by 1 for everyweek the Revenant has been dead; it

continues to deteriorate by 1 forevery week after the Revenant's

creation. It costs 0/1D8 SAN to viewa Revenant.

This spell costs 10mp and 1D8 SANto cast, but requires no componentsor actions other than the incantationitself, which takes instant and

    permanent effect.

Usually coupled withBind Revenant(below), this spells power is suchthat Revenants it creates remainanimated until destroyed by magic or

by the reverse of this spell (thereverse incantation costs 10mp andno SAN; if the Revenant in questionis unwilling to return to the grave, the caster must succeed in a POWvs. POW struggle against theRevenant).

Every month, a Revenant must rollPOWx1. If she succeeds, she regainsher full intelligence as in life (restoreINT to original level) and can nolonger be bound. The Revenantsfate is then her own concern. MostRevenants do not appreciate beingraised from the dead.

Bind RevenantThis works like every other Bindspell, with the exception that aRevenant which gains consciousnessautomatically breaks any bindingupon it.

Enchant Globe of GrowthThis spell enables the creation of theGlobe of Growth (see above). Thespell involves a succession of plant, animal and human sacrifices, and aseries of vile incantations, cast overthe space of three weeks. It costs1D20 SAN and a total of 100mp,invested every night over the threeweeks.

Stallions of Thamogorgos(greater independent race)it seemed that great ebon cloudsof thunder beetled against the sun.Lining the horizon, the clouds took

the form of colossal monsters withheads and members somewhat

resembling those of stallions.Rearing terribly, they trod down thesun like an extinguished ember; andracing as in some hippdrome ofTitans, they rose higher andvaster Zotulla saw that these werenot immaterial couds, but actualliving forms that had come forth totread the earth in macrocosmicvastness.

    Clark Ashton Smith, The DarkEidolon

These colossal, hoofed aliencreatures resemble gargantuan horsesThey are, thankfully, not often seenin this dimension. When they appear, they devastate great swathes of land, trampling all before them, beforereturning to the macrocosmicdimension from whence they came.

The Globe of GrowthThe garden, planted and tilled soprivily, and sealed by its metal roof from the orbs of heaven, wasillumined solely by a strange, fiery globe that hung in mid-air at thecentre. Adompha regarded thisglobe with awe, for its nature andpurveyance were mysterious to him.Dwerulas claimed that it had risenfrom hell on a moonless midnight at

his bidding, and was levitated byinfernal power, and fed with thenever-dying flames of that clime inwhich the fruits of Thasaidon

swelled to unearthly size andenchanted savour. It gave forth asanguine light, in which the garden swam and weltered as if seenthrough a luminous mist of blood.Even in the bleak nights of winter, the globe yielded a genial warmth;and it fell never from its weird suspension, though without palpable support; and beneath itthe garden flourished balefully, lushand exuberant as same parterre ofthe nether circles.Clark Ashton Smith, The Garden of

    Adompha

The Litany of Thasaidon contains theinstructions for the creation of thisobject, A garden or forest where theglobe has been summoned gains theattributes of Adomphas garden in1D10 months: trees grow to strangeshapes, while breeds of plant unseenfor hundreds of thousands of years

begin to grow in the vicinity. Ifsomeone dies in the area of theglobes influence, some of the bodily

parts of the dead person might endup on the plants; indeed, body partssewn onto plants (as was the practiceof Adomphas magician Dwerulas)

will always become part of the plant. If someone of great magical powerdies in the grove, then the plants inthe garden may gain the victimsintelligence and animate some of the

plants in the grove. The plants mayhave the ability to entrance theirvictim, drawing him in. Death iscertain if this succeeds. It costs0/1D4 SAN to see a grove where theglobe has done is work, 1D3/1D10SAN to see one where people havedied, and another 0/1D6 SAN if the

    plants are animate.
