At the end of July, as part of the ElginOHare Western Access Project in GreaterChicago a $3.4 billion, multi-year IllinoisTollway initiative, F.H. Paschen, S.N.Nielson substantially completed a new fly-over ramp bridge that connects westbound I-290 to westbound Illinois Route 390.This $36 million bridge, one of three con-

tracts that were awared to the firm for work

on the overall project, had crews begin theirwork in March 2014, which included rampsand pavements. The 2,100-ft. (640 m) longbridge was built over the existing Interstate290 (westbound and eastbound) and futureroad work for Illinois Route 390, formerlyknown as the Elgin OHare Expressway. Theproject is part of ongoing work to build anew I-290 Interchange at Illinois Route 390.The flyover ramp bridge was built in three

segments and includes eight concrete piers

The 2015 Minnesota Fall MaintenanceExpo was held on October 7 to 8 in St.Cloud, Minn., and attracted 2,000-plusattendees from across the midwest. Thetwo-day event featured 52 outdoor equip-ment vendors and 90 indoor exhibitors,featuring almost every product imaginablefor fall and winter maintenance needs.Classroom sessions focused on retirementplanning, the uses and benefits of MDSS(Maintenance Decision Support System),AVL (automatic vehicle location), improv-

ing communication skills and whatstrending in winter maintenance opera-tions. Other activities included the annualsnow Roadeo competition, with 88 driv-ers competing for the top spot and a skidsteer competition, which drew 77 contest-ants over the two-day event.

Ziemer Retires After 45 Years Rarely does the first full time

job out of high school turn into asuccessful lifelong career. EarlZiemer has just retired fromAmerican State Equipment after45 years of service, startingstraight out of high school. Hismother dropped him off on his firstday of work in Milwaukee, Wis., several of his nine siblings werealong for the ride. Ziemer rose through the ranks,

starting in the parts and shippingdepartment, working as a mechan-ic and then in the paint shop. Hethen went on to a field mechanic position,which evolved into taking on the responsi-bilities of shop foreman. Despite challenges like transferring to the

Wausau, Wis., location 11 years ago, a two-hour drive from his home more like five inthe snow he remained loyal to the compa-ny. And hes not the only one. JCB Marks 70th Anniversary With Limited Edition BackhoeJCB marked its 70th anniversary by giving employees around

the world the day off. This special day also was marked by theintroduction of a JCB limited edition backhoe loader. It is a versionof todays 3CX super backhoe model and a tribute to the productline that fueled JCBs growth. A total of 70 of the special machineswill be made which features the vintage look last seen 40 years agoon the JCB 3CIII model. On Oct. 23, 1945, the late Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE founded
