Warm Up-
Write the equation for photosynthesis.
Objective
Students will be able to identify the reactants and products of cellular respiration
Cellular Respiration
Read Pages 49- top of 52---- stop at Fermentation
Cellular Respiration
What is it? The process by which cells obtain energy from
glucose Cells break down simple food molecules and
release the energy they contain Cells of ALL living things do respiration
Where does it take place? Stage 1- in the cytoplasm Stage 2- in the mitochondria
Stage 1
Takes place in the cytoplasm
Glucose molecules are broken down into smaller molecules
Small amount of energy is released
Stage 2
Takes place in the mitochondria
Small molecules are broken down into even smaller molecules
Chemical reaction requires oxygen
Large amount of energy is released
Carbon dioxide and water are produced
Cellular Respiration Equation
Glucose + Oxygen Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy
Cellular Respiration
Using your notes, try to fill out the graphic organizer
Wrap Up
Where does cellular respiration take place?
What are the reactants of cellular respiration?
What are the products of cellular respiration?

Warm Up-
In your notebooks, compare and contrast cell respiration and photosynthesis
Use a H chart or a Venn Diagram
Photosynthesis Similarities Cell respiration
• Used in plant cells
• Makes glucose• In chloroplasts• Reactants=
water, carbon dioxide
• Products= glucose, oxygen
• Uses sunlight• Autotrophs
use
• Chemical reactions
• Occurs in cells• Makes a cycle• Necessary for
all living things
• Use same elements
• Used by all living things
• Breaks glucose apart
• Takes place in cytoplasm and mitochondria
• Reactants= oxygen and glucose
• Products= water, carbon dioxide, energy
• Releases energy
Objective
Students will be able to create an experiment to show respiration
Go Over Homework
11. Plants produce oxygen. Organism use oxygen. Organisms produce carbon dioxide. Plants use carbon dioxide.
12. An energy releasing process that does not require oxygen
13. False
