Navigatingthe futureWaikato District Council’s Draft Long Term Plan
When you go on a journey, you need to plan your route and decidewhat direction you’re going to go.
We’ve decided on a direction we want to take towards 2022, and we’ve drafted a plan we think will take us there. Now, we want to know if you agree with the direction and with the draft plan.
The basis of our plan is straight-forward, building on our previous long-term plans – to identify the challenges, and put the right things in place to meet those challenges. We also want to work with you as a community to continue building the type of district you want to leave to your childrenand grandchildren.
Some of the key issues facing the district in the coming10 years are:
The impact of the current economic climateThe impact of growth in the northern part of our district, and in TamahereIncreasing costs of treating and supplying drinking waterIncreasing costs of providing a well maintained roading networkImpact of legislative changes on council costs and resourcesCosts of providing wastewater services and systems

We’re sending out a summary of the plan to every ratepayer (and if you don’t get one, then please let us know and we’ll get one to you). And if you were to collect a copy of the full draft plan from the council’s offi ces, service centres and libraries – or call for one to be sent to you - we’d be delighted. It tells the full story (and it’s not full of jargon either – at least, not much).
We’re holding information sessions where you can come along and discuss what’s in, what’s not and what you think should be.
