Observing Moral Regeneration Month

By Xpress Reporter

July marks the commemoration of Moral Regeneration Month, an i n i t i a t i v e o f t h e M o r a l Regeneration Movement (MRM), which is aimed at encouraging people to recommit to efforts of building communities grounded on positive values and rededicate to building a caring society in pursuit of creating lasting peace and prosperity in the country.

con t r ibu t ions towards advancing the agenda of local government.

The mayor also conferred awards to the first group of b u r s a r y beneficiaries w h o h a v e o b t a i n e d qualifications t h r o u g h a n i n t e r n a l b u r s a r y

scheme that was launched in 2013.

“We carry out this annual exercise because we value

our administrators and understand that the future of this institution rests in the political will and in the hands

of the people who are at the coalface of service delivery,” said Mthembu.

The commemoration takes place specifically in July to coincide with the celebration of Mandela Day on 18 July and the birthday month of former President Nelson Mandela, an icon who is considered to be the main leader of the formation of the Moral Regeneration Movement, and to mark the adoption of the Charter for Positive Values on 28 July 2008.

During this month many people are expected to embark on promoting good behaviour in all spheres of life.

Not only should good ethics and behaviour be promoted during this month but throughout the year. This month is meant to intensify the struggle against moral decay and open debates on the issues of morality in different corners of our country.

The word Marie means rain and Amman means mother in Tamil language. Mariamman hence means rain mother. Mother came in the form of a woman dressed in yellow. She fed and nursed the people with porridge, and a mixture of tumeric and Syringa leaves according to lore.

The Significance of Mandela MonthBy Nkosinathi Dube

During the month of July South Africans from all walks of life and the world at large celebrate the life of a struggle icon that changed the course of history, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

Before his passing on Thursday, 5 December 2013, the 18th of July was just celebrated as Madiba's birthday and people use 67 minutes of their time to do something positive, but since then the entire month has been dedicated to doing good deeds in honour of the icon.

A man who famously said: “It always seem impossible until it is done”, with a name known a world over for the sacrifices he made for the liberation of his people. It is befitting to have people wanting to give back in honour of his name.

But the question that arises is that of the significance of Mandela month to the people of South Africa, a country facing economic instability, political turmoil and racial tensions.

Perhaps Mandela is a remedy for all that has plagued the country and also a chance for all South Africans to show acts of humanity during this time. As it has been evident in the past, people should go out of their way in doing the greater good in their respective communities.

Some of the popular activities include Helping at an Old Age home, a Welfare Centre or just giving out donations to the needy. It is all for the common good and exemplifies what the man stood for.

In recent times some seem to be missing the point of cherishing the ideals that “Tata” stood for instead use his name in vain to advance their political ambitions.

It is time that South Africans remember the significance and purpose of Mandela day.

Heavy toll of alcohol

Once again, alcohol played a huge role in the death of an innocent man. According to an eye-witness, he met his ex at about 2am on a Sunday during April. In her drunken state of mind she clung onto him and he ignored her. At this hour of the night he purchased liquor from an outlet, danced and left for home with her hanging on to him. A Mozambican man walked past and requested space to maneuver between the houses they were b l o c k i n g . S h e b e g a n swearing him and after an exchange of curses, he moved on. She left her ex and followed the Mozambican. The ex heard noises and went to investigate. He noticed her stabbing the man repeatedly in the chest and he stopped her. Afraid of repercussions, he went home. After sunrise he heard people talking and w e n t t o s e e . T h e Mozambican identified later as Bennet Moyana was dead and three beer bottles containing his blood was found nearby. He told the crowd who the culprit was. Nompilo Gaza (26) was finally arrested and was remanded in custody pending a formal bail application this week as bail is being opposed.

Letters to the Editor

THANK YOU MR MAYOR … at last…

For many years there has been that

void and a serious gap between the municipality, the people and the Mayor's office.

It is also common knowledge that for years on end, some employees in the municipality have no regard for Batho Pele principles and treat community members with a terrible attitude. For years we have also been subjected to poor and inefficient treatment by some employees as everyone is aware that most of them do not have the passion for their jobs.

Residents don't even know where or who to complain to if they had issues. They had no idea who to follow up with should there be a problem. This made residents frustrated as they would go from person to person, office to office and get no joy. There are thousands of people out there who will vouch for this! This is also one of the main causes of protest action.

Therefore we find that, out of frustration of not achieving any success, residents end up at the mayor's office to complain about streetlights, potholes, etc because someone, somewhere was giving you the run around yet these issues could have been resolved elsewhere.

The Mayor, being the brilliant politician that he is and a true people's champion noticed this gap and decided to plug it with his “go to man”! He realised he had to have someone hands on, popular with people and efficient enough to find solutions to people's problems. In his wisdom he tasked Tarzan Naicker to be the “go to man”.

I have on numerous occasions sent people or called with them personally at the municipality to get assistance as some of them are too old and most of them have no idea what to do. I have to now commend the mayor on his strategy by creating an office where people know that they can go to for help and that there will always be someone there to listen to their problems, give advice and assistance. I have seen firsthand, people who have been running around for years trying to sort out issues but they are sent in circles and no one wants to help them. After trying to approach the mayor, they are sent to Tarzan's

office and a matter of hours or just a few days, the matter is resolved.

Whilst in this office, I have come across people who needed help from legal issues to electricity and water being cut off to vicious dogs troubling

neighbours. Every problem is seen to and attended to by Naicker. As community members we have called on him for various issues, problems and concerns. He has never turned us down and always mentions that he has been tasked by the mayor to ensure that residents had someone to go to and that he was available at any time to be of assistance. This is what this town needed and lacked in all this time!

As a South African of Indian origin, I want to place on record my gratitude to the mayor for ensuring that all communities are attended to and that no one feels marginalised or left out. As a community we are appreciative that the placing of Tarzan has ensuredthat residents in general and poor in particular will be attended to without fear or favour.

Mr Mayor, as the leader of this town and the ANC, we applaud your vision and if this is how you ensure service delivery from the ruling party then you most definitely have our support in the upcoming elections.

“Disgrace to women all over the world”

The sentence of six years imposed on Oscar Pistorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp is a disgrace to women all over the world. A person who willfully shoots someone through a closed door thinking there was an intruder even though your partner is not lying next to you in bed, should be given at least the minimum sentence for murder which is 15 years. This judgment has now set a precedence and has given men the authority to kill their partners and using the same excuse as Oscar.

In order to fight for women's rights the state must now take this matter to a higher prosecuting authority and have this judge recused from this case as she clearly is not meeting out justice fairly. This mild sentence given toOscar has shamed our nation and brought our justice system in disrepute.

According to organizer, local businessman Zakhele Gumede, the walk will not be competitive.

“This year, it will be 49 years after the tragic train accident on 21 July 1967 that killed Chief Albert Luthuli. He was a devout Christian Chief of Groutville AmaKholwa Tribe, President of the African National Congress, and the first African winner of the Nobel Peace Prize,” said Gumede.

The 11, 5 km walk will observe

Chief Luthuli's final walk to the railway bridge where he had an accident that led to his untimely death. He walked from his shop Nonhlevu Trading Store, to the family agricultural fields across Mvoti River. He was using the railway bridge to cross the Mvoti River when he was struck by a train.

The walk will be from his home in Groutville (Luthuli Museum) to the accident site, back to the Museum via the gravesite at the Groutville United Congregational Church.

“Leaders and ordinary people will get a chance to discuss the legacy of one of South Africa's best leaders who epitomized the value hard work, non-racialism, ethics and strong leadership.

The walk will put Groutville and KwaDukuza on the South African

Once, a fox was roaming around in the dark. Unfortunately, he fell into a well. He tried his level best to come out but all in vain. So, he had no other alternative but to remain there till the next morning. The next day, a goat came that way. She peeped into the well and saw the fox there. The goat asked: “What are you doing there, Mr. Fox?”

The sly fox replied: “I came here to drink water. It is the best I have ever tasted. Come and see for yourself.” Without thinking even for a while, the goat jumped into the well, quenched her thirst and looked for a way to get out. But just like the fox, she also found herself helpless and unable to come out.

Then the fox said: “I have an idea. You stand on your hind legs. I'll climb on your head and get out. Then I shall help you come out too.” The goat was innocent and did as the fox said and helped him get out of the well. While walking away, the fox said: “Had you been intelligent enough, you would never have got in without seeing how to get out.”

Hero's welcome for Portugal after Euro triumph

Cristiano Ronaldo's victorious Portugal prepared to returned home to a triumphant welcome on Monday after their shock 1-0 win over France in the European Championship f ina l , the country's first international title.

The Real Madrid superstar was stretchered off the Stade de France pitch in tears in the first half and could only watch from the side lines as substitute Eder fired a thundering extra time winner to cap a month-long tournament of upsets.

The unexpected win over the heavily-fancied hosts sparked jubilant scenes in Lisbon, where tens of thousands of fans flooded the streets, dancing, singing and waving Portugal's red and green flag.

The party continued on Monday, with Ronaldo's men meeting President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at his official residence before embarking on a parade through the streets of Lisbon.

all difficulties including the blow of losing Cristiano Ronaldo," Rebelo de Sousa said.

Portugal's dreams of lifting the Henri Delaunay Trophy looked to have taken a shattering blow when Ronaldo, their captain and talisman, fell to the ground in agony in the eighth minute following a clattering challenge from Dimitri Payet.

After twice going off for treatment and trying to come back, Ronaldo was definitively carried off, but for all France's dominance Portugal stood firm thanks to man-of-the-match defender Pepe and a string of dramatic saves from goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The victory marks a healing of sorts for Portugal after their shock defeat in the Euro 2004 final when they lost 1-0 to unfancied Greece in on home turf.

Luis Figo, who captained Portugal in that agonising defeat in Lisbon 12 years ago, congratulated the team on Twitter.

Portugal's coach Fernando

Santos and the other players paid tribute to Ronaldo's role in urging the team not to give up. R o n a l d o r e t u r n e d f r o mtreatment at the end of 90 minutes to give pep talks to his teammates.

Ronaldo's tears of pain and anguish as he was carried off turned to tears of joy at the final whistle, and shrugging off his injured knee, the forward danced past reporters with other Portugal players as they left the stadium.

Portugal defended doggedly and threatened occasionally without their inspirational skipper. With 109 minutes gone, Eder beat off a Laurent Koscielny challenge to fire a shot from outside the penalty area that French captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could not even get a hand to.

France started the match as strong favourites after beating Germany 2-0 in the semi-final. Antoine Griezmann scored twice in that game to take his tournament tally to six - enough to win the Golden Boot award.

THANKS MAMA ALISHA ITS REALLY HAPPENING NOW WITH YOU I am Carl from Ballito and am here to testify to my fellow South Africans about a miracle I

encountered when I visited MAMA ALISHA to help me fix my financial situation. I was almost left homeless as I had lost my home and car to fake traditional healers. On my visit she gave different ways of helping me and chose the magic wallet that brings 25000 everyday and paid her 70 000 every week from the money I made from the magic wallet. I told my cousin Petros

about it and he too chose the rats that bring money in the house after which he got 40 000 and paid 9000. Mama Alisha. I know it's the same way you can be helped you have to see to

believe so visit her or call her 0710223640

MY WIFE TOLD ME TO GO TO HELL WHEN I WAS POOR BUT SHE WANTS ME

BACK BECAUSE IM RICH

I am Cliff from Umhlanga. I came to know about Mama Alisha from Auntie Merina who lives in Stanger and had previously visited her with a financial problem and it had been fixed. I had lost all my money, cars, business some of which was left to me by my late parents. When

things went real bad. My wife told me to go to hell and started having affairs looking out for rich men and when I confronted her about it she told me go to hell, left me alone and went. I

suffered for almost 2 years but meeting Mama Alisha rose me up again. She gave me a magic wallet with which I could get money daily inside my house. I opened up a new business worth 2 million rands bought 2 new cars and when my wife heard that I am up again she wants me

back, thinking of forgiving her but am not sure. Only that she is the mother of my 3 kids. I can forgive her for only that. If Alisha bought my life back to normal, I know she can help you too.
