Green economy is a global trend of world development. Every-one likes to talk about its necessity and usefulness, every one of them wants to protect resources, most countries in one way or another in-tensified their environmental policy under the slogan promising sector. But are there any real results in ad-dition to beautiful words? Can you give live examples with figures?

I would like to expand Green economy towards a sustainable economy. We truly believe that sus-tainable business is good business, leading to positive financial results, and positive environmental and so-cial impact. If you cannot build a compelling business case by connect-ing social or environmental impact to financial benefits, every sustain-ability or green approach will fail. With our ridesharing solution TwoGo by SAP we have implemented a very simple and relevant example at SAP. Through the growing urbanization traffic becomes a significant chal-lenge in cities. The congested urban individual traffic leads to higher air pollution by emissions, decreasing quality of life due to time spent in traffic jams and considerable finan-cial impact through waste of fuel.

In addition the generation Y is looking for convenient mobility in-stead of losing money on an expen-sive and mainly unused, asset like a car. We advertised our ridesharing solution with the slogan Make friends and know the gossip. Com-muting together increases social con-tacts among employees reduces overall fuel consumption, thus emis-sions and fuel expense for the com-pany cars of SAP. We have saved se-veral million Euros, but more impor-tantly we have facilitated thousands of hours of social networking within SAP.

It is a good example. But lets look around to what happens in the

world today, the unstable political situation, wars in many countries, against this background dont the discussion about emissions looks a bit hypocritical? Talking and think-ing about the high, but we cannot solve more earthly problems, which are not less important. What do you think?

This question is very much di-rected towards political and societal development or regulations. As a pro-vider of business software we help our customers to meet or master their business challenges or oppor-tunities. State regulations, resource scarcity or demographic change and changing buying behavior are those challenges, companies have to deal with. Therefore we have examples where our solutions helped to create transparency on accident rate on oil

rigs and emissions through more ef-ficient operations. We do not inf lu-ence country regulations but help our customers to operate within the given frameworks.

At SAP forum you said that green economy can be a very pro-fitable business. Can you please deve-lop this thesis in some details?

At least in Europe and lately in China businesses have understood that climate change and non-sustainable practices pose significant risk for their economic survival: Great China shuts down mines when environmental regu-lations are violated, with significant revenue loss for the mining company. The loss of organic cotton production due to floodings in Bangladesh let the raw material costs for the fashion indus-try explode leading to reduced margins.

At SAP forum in Astana I met an interesting speaker Dr. Ritzrau, who talked about the companys approach to building the economy of the future, based on the careful consumption of natural resources. We had a long conversation, we discussed popular here in Kazakhstan green theme. I largely agreed with the interlocutor, a lot of things were surprised me, but there were moments when I wanted more detailed responses. Dont get me wrong I understand the importance of green economy, as well as all sensible people, I have no doubt about the fact that we have to take care of the resources of the Earth, but I have questions. For instance, how quickly we can bring everything to life, not being able to do basic things, such as not dropping litter on the street or saving paper and water. How we can do everything at the same time, combining the needs of prospect with necessary things today? On the one hand, the future economy is necessary, and on the other, there are so much issues, which are not less important, urgent and unresolved, so that there are doubts about timeliness of this topic. In third place, a lot of words sound, but the transformation of sound into action is needed. I ask my questions to Will Ritzrau as the person who knows firsthand a lot about green economy, and he kindly agreed to answer them.

Draughts jeopardize corn and wheat production leading to instable prices. Increasing storm intensities and fre-quencies require insurance companies to pay enormous amounts reparation sums. BP lost millions of dollars due to the fines and reparation cost they have to pay for the Deepwater Horizon disaster and loss of revenue, because people avoided BP gas sta-tions. Therefore countries deciding

to support green economies it is great step forwards, but at the end busi-nesses need to and will execute within the given frameworks. They execute if they see economic benefit through state incentives like subsidies or tax cuts or more importantly differen-tiating sales opportunities to their customers.

At the end you and I make a con-scious decision when we buy green

products. And we do this, because the products are better or because we as consumers want to be green. Thats how the unleaded fuel and the car catalyst expanded from Califor-nia into the world, because people suffered from smog in megacities. Thats why e-cars may become more popular or why car-/ride sharing so-lutions will become more popular than owning a car.

No green economy without busi-ness value, no business value with-out conscious consumption. In your case if your natural gas and oil prices are very low, why would anybody buy green energy for a higher price and become uncompetitive in their respective market. If your people dont ask for this, why should com-panies change?

I think you are right. Thank you for this interview.

On November 6 in Almaty, Business World Kazakhstan magazine met representatives of Swiss Education Group (SEG), the largest educational group in the field of hospitality and tourism. The presentation of the Swiss school, which we were invited to, was held exclusively for Business World Kazakhstan magazine on the occasion of the meeting of SEG Kazakh graduates in Almaty and Astana. The activities were carried out in order to establish a lasting friendship between SEG graduates and representatives of Kazakhstans hos-pitality and tourism industry. Swiss organizers gave us a lot of time and attention, telling in detail about the school, and also inviting us to the graduate evening, where me and my colleague had the opportunity to talk live with those who have already graduated.

But first things first.Honestly that was the first time I heard about this school

and that we have a lot of graduates in Kazakhstan, who not only graduated from this prestigious school, but returned back to Kazakhstan and became employed successfully in the tourism and hospitality industry. Moreover, not many people give much thought to this work being very important, interesting and prestigious, so did I, and certainly I did not know that Kazakhstani people have been studying the art of hospitality for long in such a serious institution, and even in such a great country like Switzerland. Given the fact that my younger sister finishes school next year, all the information provided at the presentation and the graduate evening interested me greatly At least, I was convinced that being a restaurateur or a hotelier means to have a creative profession which is in demand, with has a broad scope and that provides excellent opportunities for career and personal growth. There was no need to convince me that Switzerland is a beautiful and comfortable country to live in, so I immediately advised Anouarbekova junior to pay attention to this field of activity and to think about entering one of the schools of

Swiss Education Group, especially since she already speaks French and English f luently.

The hospitality industry includes tourist and restaurant activities, services and entertainment, food, organizing museum and sightseeing activities, and so on. Why is it necessary to learn seriously to become an expert in the area? Because hospitality is important as a social quality, and as a field of activity not only for an individual business owner or a guest of hotel or restaurant, but for a countrys economy as a whole. The hospitality industry first of all is current approach, which uses advanced technologies of fast pro-cessing and delivery orders, high organization concerted action in dealing with all the technical aspects of quality service to customers, and many other aspects.

Mauro Reina, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambas-sador of Switzerland in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, said at a presentation about the benefits of the Swiss education for the hospitality industry: Switzerland is known for its educational programs and tourism. Our country has a long history of tourism business for 150 years. Accordingly, the need for qualified personnel in this area we had a long time. For this reason, many people come to study in Switzerland. Our tourism business means innovation and quality. A lot of managers of the worlds famous hotels graduated from SEG. Kazakhstan students can go there, and come back to work for the country development.

Federico Sommaruga, Director of Emerging Markets and Special Projects, Switzerland Tourism, said that winter tourism in Switzerland has also been established for 150 years. The country has offered the perfect winter holiday since 1864. Swiss history of winter tourism is officially counted from the moment when Johannes Badrutt, the enterprising owner of Kulm hotel in St. Moritz, made a bet with his English guests. He said that winter there had been even more beautiful than summer, and claimed that they

    -

would be able to enjoy the vacation even in winter. If he was proved wrong, he pledged to reimburse their travel costs; but if they enjoyed St. Moritz in winter, as he promised they would, they could stay as his guests for as long as they liked. His risk fully justified itself, and these English gentlemen effectively became the first Alpine winter tourists, able to enjoy a whole new world of winter holidays in the snow.

If in 1864 the Swiss possessed such business acumen, I believe that in 2014 they can teach students a lot. Especially that SEG is the largest educational institution in this field: the school was opened in 1982 and the hotel business had been teaching there for over 30 years.

As Ronan Fitzgerald, Chief Operating Officer of SEG, told all programs of the Swiss Education Group combine academic learning with practical experience and are designed to meet the needs of hospitality employers. Students live in adapted for schools hotels where they not only study, but get a real experience at the same time, because the academic semester alternates with semester of paid internship. Students have an opportunity to do an internship in Swit-zerland or in any other part of the world. All member schools are subject to a stringent academic quality assurance which ensures students receive the renowned high-level of Swiss education. We are preparing the leaders in this field; we have students in more than 120 nationalities, including students from Kazakhstan. Kazakhstani students are important for us, at the moment at SEG there are 25 of them, including 78 people who trained under Bolashak program, and I have to say, they have passed rigorous selection process. In the next year we expect to have at least 30 Kazakh students, and if there will be more, we will be happy.

Serious attitude to Kazakhstan and its students is demonstrated by the idea of creating a community of representatives of Swiss and local companies in order to develop close and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Tarsilla Fercher Geis, Director of Business Development in SEG, told how long the school accepts students from Kazakhstan: Relations with Kazakhstan began 5 years ago. And since then we have released more than 100 specialists. Regardless under the Bolashak program or not students study, they bring their knowledge back to the country. And this is very important. The purpose of our visit is meeting with alumni, we want to make a students community, and we want to establish a link between industry and students. We hold meetings with 60 graduates, 37 of them are from Almaty and 34 from Astana. Kazakstani graduates of our school today work in Ritz Carlton, Expo-2017, at the Department of Tourism of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Of course it is not necessary to say that SEG graduates are highly rated not only in the hospitality industry but also in other areas. Thus, among the graduates at the meeting in Almaty there were employees of Internet companies and civil servants.

Another important point needs to be mentioned. The tuition fee at SEG is 2535 thousand dollars a year, which according to our standards, is not too much for the Swiss school, and this fee includes the cost of tuition, accom-modation, meals, books and insurance. In general, I am personally impressed by the information, and really enjoyed the communication between our students and school officials. Graduates were greeted very warmly like old friends, rejoicing, hugging, and taking photos. So if you are looking for an interesting variant of the foreign education for yourselves or your children, be sure to check out the site of SEG.
