Hello Division 38 West!

Was your summer fun and memorable? How was

your first week back to school? Can you believe that we’ve

just made it through our first week back? Crazy right? I hope

you all had an amazing first week, and wish you the best

throughout the entire year! Remember to manage your time

wisely during this school year and make it ROBO-TASTIC! :)

Until next time,

Jeanie Paek

2012–2013 Division Technology Editor

I had the pleasure to visit Rashika's home on Saturday, July 28 for the ice

cream social she hosted. It was, in my opinion, a great way to get together

some of the clubs from around the area. When I got there and finished my

salivating from the sight of Rashika's home, we proceeded to eat pizza and

have a water balloon fight. After being mad that I got my shirt wet, I said

oh well and we all jumped in the pool. We swam for a while and afterwards

we ate, of course, some ice cream. All in all I thought this was a great event

to help raise funds for PTP, and I thought there should've been way more

people there. I'm expecting to see more the next time Rashika has one of

these fun events.

For those who missed it, on Saturday, July 28th, the division got together for an ice cream social at our

LTG, Rashika Choudhary’s home. We were able to purchase soda, ice cream, and water balloons for $3-

$5 to help fundraise for PTP. It was a great way for us to have fun and bond as an Ohana.

Balancing Key Club, school, and other extra curriculars may sound challenging, but it’s actu-

ally really easy.

Here are a few tips to stay on track!

Remember, school ALWAYS comes first. If you’re falling behind a deadline, don’t be afraid to talk to your president, the LTG, or any of the advisors. They will understand.

Do your best to finish assignments before deadlines, such as your homework, that way

you will have some time to rest, as well as make any corrections before it is due.

Since school is back in session, meet up with your school’s Key Club to think of new service

projects for the new year! This year, we WILL accomplish raising more money for PTP.

Some ideas maybe:

What is an SAA? What does he or she do? Who is in the Sergeant at Arms Team?

Those are some questions I have heard since beginning my term as Sergeant at Arms

Coordinator. So, to answer all these questions, I am writing this article with the hope

of educating you in the little section of Key Club that I am a part of.

Let us start by describing the duties of the SAA Team. The SAA Team has three major

directives that it fulfills throughout the Key Club year: educating members on the

Code of Conduct, organizing the SAA Volunteers under a master schedule at District

Convention, and enforcing the Code of Conduct especially during DCON.

More questions. What do these three directives mean? How does the SAA Team work

to reach it? Well, for educating members on the Code of Conduct, the SAA Team pro-

duces material such as presentations, advertisements, and reminders through the

course of the year. This material is meant to make sure that the General Membership

knows the Code of Conduct and is aware of what the District asks of them in terms of

behavior. A major part of the team’s duties is also to organize the SAA Volunteers.

What some people do not know is that volunteers do not only come from Key Club

but also from Kiwanis and Circle K. It is the duty of the SAA Team to set up shifts for

these volunteers and train them on what they are supposed to do. Overall, the SAA

Team’s main goal is to keep every Key Club member safe and abiding by the Code of

Conduct. Although you may only see the SAA Team at work during District Conven-

tion, it is only the end result of a year’s worth of work.

CNH District | Region 5 | Division 38 West 4

So…who makes up the SAA Team? The SAA Team is comprised of the two Sergeant

at Arms Coordinators, the two mentors, and all SAA Volunteers. It is the first year

that this Coordinating Team has been taken out of District Board and is led by reg-

ular members of Key Club as opposed to Lieutenant Governors. This year, I have

been lucky enough to be appointed as one of the two SAA Coordinators. The two

SAA Coordinators spearhead this team’s work. My co-coordinator and I perform

much of the work set forth by the three directives. The SAA Mentors are two Re-

gional Advisors who specialize in the workings of the SAA Team. Their main duty

is to moderate the workings of the team. They are advisors who provide direction to

what the team as a whole does.

For those of you who don’t know yet, YOU can be a part of the SAA Team. If you

want to help out, you can choose to sign up to be an SAA Volunteer. As a Key Club

volunteer, your duties may include making sure all members are abiding by the

dress code, ensuring only the proper people enter convention rooms, or helping out

during the caucus sessions. Keep your eyes open for more information about volun-

teering as District Convention comes closer if you want to take a more active role at

this year’s DCON.

DCM

We will be having a Division Council Meeting (DCM) on AUGUST 25th at SOAR (A.V. College) from 10:00AM-12:00PM.

It will be hosted by SOAR, and Rashika thought it would be a great opportunity for them to interact and feel welcomed as a part of the D38W Robot Ohana! It has only been a year since SOAR offi-cially chartered a Key Club, and they had 55 PAID MEMBERS, which is absolutely wonderful! Ashlee Davis, president of SOAR Key Club, is extremely excited to be working not only as a club, but also as a division. So please show your support and come attend the DCM they will be hosting! Please check out the Facebook event page if you have any further questions!

DCON

trict Convention will be held in the city of Ana-

Fall Rally South

Due to the District's massive size,

two Fall Rallies are held each year;

one in Northern California at Six

Flags Discovery Kingdom, one in

Southern California at Six Flags

Magic Mountain. Thousands of mem-

bers gather at each of the two theme

parks on their selected day, one in

October, one in November. At Fall

Rally North and South, LTGs and

Executive officers are "auctioned" off

to Divisions; the winning Division is

able to then spend a designated peri-

od of time with the "purchased" of-

ficer. Auction funds and a portion of

the ticket sales for both events go to-

wards the Pediatric Trauma Program.

Why: Experience Motivational Pro-

grams, Divisional Spirit Rally,

Meet New People, Helping out Pe-

diatric Trauma, and Key Club Spirit.

How: Contact your school's Key

Club
