Congratulation to PP Jimmy!

Congratulations to PP Jimmy, his son Professor Gilberto KK leung has been appointed to Tsang Wing-Hing Professorship in Clinical Neuro-science.

"Ms Tsang Wing-Hing was a graduate of The University of Hong Kong and it was her wish to give back to her alma mater. By establishing the ‘Tsang Wing Hing Professor-ship in Clinical Neuroscience’ we hope it will support the further development of and research in neuroscience."

Profes-sor leung’s clinical and research interests include endoscopic skuill base survery, neurotrqumq, the molecular biology of brain tumours, neuropro-tective therapy as well as medical education, law and ethics.

Professor Leung was one of the prin-cipal investigators in the world’s first umbilical cord blood cells transplan-tation for spinal cord injury patients conducted in conjunction with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Rutger’s University in the United States. This work demonstrated the feasibility and safety of the treatment, and subsequentlhy led to further clinical trials

This post event review meeting was held at CU and attended by representatives from the four rotaract clubs and interact clubs. Also pre-sented were incoming Music@ Youth 2019 OC members of the RCNA, which was very im-portant as they would be key members of the OC next year. There were in-depth discussion and exchange of opinions; and we were glad to note those present realized the importance of teamwork.

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Lam Kin Ping from Chinese University to share his insight into the promotion of Putong-hua in Hong. While the result of the effort so far had been less than desireable, Dr. Lam was confident that economic incentive arising from the “Bay” area development would lead to popularity of Putonghua and improved standard in the usage of Chinese among Hong Kong people.

Do you know lung fish fossil records date back 380 million years, around the time when the higher vertebrate classes were beginning to evolve? Some species of lung fish can encase itself in a cocoon to survive extreme drought for more than two years. When immerse in water, the lung fish will revive itself.

The May GM of the Rotaract Club of HK North was held at the new centre of the Ichthyological Soci-ety of Hong Kong at Wong Chuk Hang. They were honoured to have President Chong Dwee Hwa of the Society as the specialist speaker at the GM.

Members were introduced to the evolution of the earth and the ecological system since the Big Bang. They were shown samples and live species of the fishes found in Hong Kong streams/rivers and were amazed at the collection of books and samples. Rotaractors were inspired of how the Soci-ety could prvoide resources to STEM education of Hong Kong and how the Society could also provide therapeutic activities to students with Asperger Disor-der. What a fruitful evening!
