PROMISE FULFILLED
Today’s readings address the faithful one, the one who waits on God but may not feel God’s presence. Every person who seeks God has at one time or another experienced the absence of God. Jesus himself cried out during his dark night of the soul.
The Epistle of James speaks to this. The author says that we must be as patient as the silent, fal-low earth that awaits the slow, soaking rains of winter and the hard, necessary rains of spring. As the farmer is sure of the precious yield of the land, we can be sure of the precious yield of our patient waiting. God is never far away.
The messengers from John the Baptizer asked Jesus if he was the one whose coming John had announced. The messengers wanted to hear the answer that the imprisoned John already knew. Everything that John said was finally happening: because of Je-sus, light shines in eyes; words of promise are received; people leap and dance.
The promise of Isaiah is fulfilled in Jesus. Wobbly knees and feeble hands are strong, the desert blooms, the savanna and steppe flower, the darkness is chased away. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
PROMESA CUMPLIDA
Las lecturas de hoy nos hablan de la persona fiel, de aquella que espera en Dios pero tal vez no sienta su presencia. Toda persona que busca a Dios, en un momento u otro, experimenta la ausencia de Dios. El mismo Jesús gritó durante la noche oscura de su alma.
La epístola de Santiago hace referencia a esta cuestión. Dice que debemos ser tan pacientes como la tierra abandonada y silenciosa, que espera las lentas y húmedas lluvias del invierno y las fuertes y necesarias lluvias de la primavera. Al igual que el agricultor es consciente del precioso fruto de la tierra, también nosotros podemos ser conscientes de la valiosa cosecha de nuestra paciente espera. Dios nunca está lejos.
Los mensajeros de Juan Bautista preguntaron a Jesús si él era aquél que Juan había anunciado. Los mensajeros querían oír la respuesta que el encarcelado
Juan ya sabía. Todo lo que Juan había dicho estaba finalmente aconteciendo: gracias a Jesús, la luz brilla en los ojos; las palabras de promesa son recibidas; la gente salta y baila.

Christmas Flowers
This weekend we continue accepting donations for Christmas Flowers. Donations can be made in honor or in memory of loved ones using the special envelopes in the packets mailed to your home or on the table in the vestibule. You may put your donation in the collection baskets through next weekend, 21–22 December. Thank you in advance for helping make our church so beautiful during our Christmas celebrations.

Christmas Giving Tree Gifts
St. Cyril’s annual Christmas Giving Tree will have names through this Sunday, 8 December for families in our area in need of help for Christmas. Pink tags are for girls, blue tags for boys, lavender for moms and green for dads. If you are interested in helping a family, please take a tag and return the unwrapped gift with the tag taped to the gift no later than this Sunday, 15 December. Gifts will go out to families the following weekend. Thank you for helping those families that are need in our parish.

On the final days of Advent (December 17-23), the Church prays a special set of antiphons at Evening Prayer (Vespers) and for the Gospel Acclamation. These have become known as the O Antiphons since they each begin with the exclamation “O”. Familiar to us as the verses of the hymn O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, each antiphon is prayed on a specific day. The antiphons (as written in the hymn) along with their designated day, is included here to afford each household the opportunity to join with the Church in her prayer each of these days leading to the Feast of Christmas. You may wish to add these “O Antiphons” to your morning prayer, your prayer at table, or your bedtime prayer.

Our Annual Christmas Craft Fair was a great success raising over $1,200. A big thank you to the St. Cyril “Crafters,” all other crafters and bakers, the “kitchen crew” and the Development Board for sponsoring the bake sale. A special thank you to the band, “Sun Bones” and to the Univer-sity of Arizona Faculty /Staff Choir for the fantastic entertain-ment. Of course, we thank all of our vendors and the many people who supported this traditional event.
Nuestra Feria Anual de Artesanías fue muy exitosa y recabamos más de $1,200. Muchísimas gracias a los “artesanos” de San Cirilo, y a

Diabetes Conversation Map Series
Have you been diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes?
Are you interested in learning more about your condition and how to manage it most effectively?
If you like learning in a small, interactive group setting of 6–12 persons, then you may be inter-ested in signing up for the four week Diabetes Conversation Map series that is being offered on Tuesday evenings: 14 Jan, 28 Jan, 11 Feb and 25 Feb from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Nursery in the Dougherty Activity Center.

Update on Operation Hospitality
Preparations for our annual participation in Op-eration Hospitality usually begin at this time of year. However, we do not need to get ready this year as the Salvation Army, the organizing agency, is not running the program this year.

Do you know an inactive / absent Catholic who is seeking for something more in life?
In 2008, the Center for the Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) did a study titled Sacraments Today, Belief and Practice among U.S. Catholics. The study revealed that 23% of adult Catholics attended Mass weekly in 2008 and that 56% of adult Catholics rarely or never attend Mass or attend a few times a year. Here is the good news they found: many inactive / absent Catholics today are open to receiving an invitation to reconnect with their faith. And some will respond positively to the invitation to return.
Inactive / absent Catholics are those who once practiced their faith and who have, for a variety of reasons, stopped practicing. Uncle Joe who hasn’t been to Mass in years; Aunt Sally who became indifferent and no longer practices her faith; Granddaughter Cecilia who is busy with many things and simply can’t find the time. We believe that many of them, while alienated or indifferent, still yearn for a closer relationship with God. We also believe that the Catholic Church can sat-isfy their yearnings. Jesus Christ, active in his Church today, through the urgings of the Holy Spirit, invites these sons and daughters of the Father to return to Him and experience His embrace and kiss in the beauty of the sacraments and the call of the Gospel. But the Lord needs the help of his followers to make this invitation known.

Conscious of our responsibility to continue Jesus’ mission of bringing people into an active relationship with our God, our parish is once again looking to reach out to inactive / absent Catholics using a program called: Catholics Reaching Out. This program provides each of us with the means for reaching out to the son or daughter, friend or relative who has been inac-tive /absent and inviting him/her back to the Church family. Here is how the Catholics Reaching Out program will work and how you can be a part of this out-reach. Think of some of the people whom you know who are inactive / absent Catholics and who are looking for “something more” in their lives.
Beginning next weekend, December 21-22, we will have parish Invitations available. The invitation will be to six weekly discussion sessions beginning January 13, 2014 at 7:00 PM. At this time, we invite you to think about whom among your family and/or friends may be open to such an invitation. We ask you to take an invitation for each of these relatives, friends or neighbors for whom you have been praying and give the invitation to each of them. Tell each person that you and the Parish miss them sharing in the worship of our Lord.
Come, O Holy Spirit, and with your gift of Counsel, help and guide inactive / absent Catholics in all their ways, that they may always do your holy will. Incline their hearts to that which is good. Give them the brightness of your light, that they may be pleasing to you in unity of faith. Amen

En 2008, el Center Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) hizo un estudio titulado Sacra-
ments Today, Belief and Practice among U.S. Catholics. El estudio reveló que en 2008, el 23%
de los adultos Católicos asistían a Misa semanalmente y que el 56% de los Católicos adultos,
rara vez o nunca asistían a Misa o asistían de vez en cuando. He aquí las buenas nuevas: Hoy
muchos Católicos inactivos/ausentes están dispuestos a recibir una invitación para reconec-
tar con su fe. Y algunos responderán positivamente a la invitación de regresar.
Católicos Inactivos/Ausentes son aquellos que antes practicaron su fe, y que por
varios motivos, dejaron de hacerlo. El tío Joe que no ha asistido a Misa por años; la
tía Sally que se hizo indiferente y ya no practica su fe; la nieta Cecilia que está ocu-
pada con muchas cosas y no tiene tiempo.
Creemos que muchos de ellos, aunque alejados o indiferentes, todavía desean una
relación más íntima con Dios. También creemos que la Iglesia Católica puede satis-
facer sus deseos. Jesucristo, hoy activo en su Iglesia, por la insistencia del Espíritu
Santo, invita a estos hijos/hijas del Padre a regresar a él y sentir Su abrazo y beso en
la belleza de los Sacramentos y el llamado del Evangelio. Pero el Señor necesita de

Conscientes de nuestra responsabilidad de continuar con la misión de Jesús de unir a las personas en una relación activa con Dios, nuestra parroquia una vez más esta tratando de llegar a aquellos católicos inactivos/ausentes por medio del programa: Catholics Reaching Out. Este programa pro-porciona los medios necesarios para poder llegar a aquel hijo o hija, amigo o familiar que ha estado inactivo/ausente a fin de invitarlo a él/ella a unirse de nuevo a la familia de la Iglesia. Así es como funciona el programa Catholics Reaching Out y usted puede ser parte de este out-reach. Piense en aquellas personas a las que conoce, que son católicos inactivos/ausentes y que están en búsqueda de “algo más” en sus vidas.
A partir del próximo fin de semana, 21-22 diciembre, tendremos invitaciones parroquiales disponibles. La invitación será para participar en seis sesiones (de discusión) semanales a partir del 13 de enero de 2014 a las 7:00 PM. Piense en aquellas personas entre su familia y/o amigos que puedan estar interesados en aceptar esta invitación. Tome una invi-tación por cada uno de estos familiares, amigos o vecinos, aquellos por los que usted has estado orando, y entréguesela en persona. Hágale saber que tanto usted como la Parroquia echa de menos su participación en la adoración de nuestro Señor.
Ven Espíritu Santo y con tu sabio consejo, ayuda y guía en todo a aquellos Católicos inac-
tivos/ausentes, para que puedan siempre hacer tu Sagrado Deseo. Inclina sus corazones
hacia el bien. Dales el brillo de tu luz, que ellos te puedan agradar en la unidad de la fe.

Celebrating International Migrants Day 18 December
Immigration is a key part of the society we live in. Many of us are migrants, and all of us benefit from the contribution that mi-grants bring.
"I was a stranger and you welcomed me." (Mt 25:35) Today the immigrant comes before us like that ‘stranger’ in whom Jesus asks to be recognised. To welcome him and to show him solidar-ity is a duty of hospitality and fidelity to Christian identity itself.
