RECOGNIZING JESUS
The star of today’s Gospel is a panhandler. Bartimaeus is blind, yes, but he is proba-bly also homeless and filthy, a real nuisance to respect-able citizens. Even so, it is Bartimaeus who recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, places all his faith in him, throws aside everything he
has (his cloak), begs him for mercy, receives new vision, and follows Jesus on the way to suffering and death in Jerusalem. How desperate will we have to get before we can do the same? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Our four days of Fall Fair festivities were filled with
excitement, fun and good food. Thank you to the co-chairs (Tracy Cracchiolo and Chris Bohler) and their
committee members along with all the volunteers who were so instrumental in staffing the booths and doing
a lot of “behind the scenes work”. The continuing de-
velopment of events on the Cougar Court makes for a wonderful parish and school celebration of community while
raising needed funds. Congratulations to the Raffle Winners:

Nuestros cuatro días de festividades por la Feria del
Otoño estuvieron plenos de entusiasmo, diversión y

Funeral Planning Workshop
None of us like to think about our death, but it is an inescap-
able future event. When one doesn’t make plans for their fu-neral, it leaves family members having to make decisions in
the midst of sorrow and mourning – a time when they are vul-nerable to making poor and potentially very expensive deci-
sions. In setting forth your desires, surviving family members
can attend to your funeral arrangements confident of meeting your wishes.
To help parishioners begin this task, we have arranged for a workshop by staff members of our Catholic Cemeteries. The
session will be held on Sunday, November 11th after the 10:00 AM Mass.

Nadie queremos pensar sobre nuestra muerte, pero este es
un inevitable evento futuro. Cuando alguien no hace planes para su funeral, le deja a su familia la toma de decisiones,

Evenings of Reflection & Prayer
As a part of our parish’s celebration of the Year of Faith, we have several evenings of reflection and
prayer to nurture our various Liturgical ministers, but also open to all parishioners.
Food for the Journey – Monday, November 12th In keeping with our Church’s focus on remembering All Souls in this final month of our Liturgical Year, this
evening of reflection and prayer will begin with a look at the “Last Rites” in the sacrament of Pastoral Care of
the Sick. Recognizing that the Eucharist is nourishment for
our journey in faith, the “Last Rites” no longer include a final anointing (“extreme unction”) but a celebration of
“viaticum” (a final reception of communion as “food for the journey”).
The schedule for this evening, which is open to all parish-ioners but especially for our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion (EMHC), is 5:30-6:30 PM: a light meal served in
Dougherty Hall (free will offering); 6:30-7:15 PM a presenta-tion (presented in two different groups, one in English the
other in Spanish); closing with Benediction at 7:30 PM in the church.
Future evenings (while targeted for specific liturgical minis-
ters are open to all parishioners) will be: Singing the Lord’s Praises (for Music Ministers) on January 2nd and The Gospel
of Luke (for Lectors) on January 21, 22, and 23 with Fr. Felix Just, SJ.

Como parte de la celebración del Año de la Fe,
tenemos varias noches de reflexión y oración para con-
solidar a nuestros Ministros Litúrgicos, pero también están abiertas al público.
Alimento para el Viaje – lunes 12 de noviembre Siguiendo con el enfoque de nuestra Iglesia al recordar
a los Fieles Difuntos en este último mes de nuestro Año
Litúrgico, esta noche de reflexión y oración empezará viendo a los “Últimos Ritos” en el sacramento del Cui-
dado Pastoral de los Enfermos. Reconociendo que la Eu-caristía es alimento para el viaje de fe, los “Últimos Ritos” ya
no incluyen una unción final (extrema unción) sino una cele-
bración de “viaticum” (una recepción final de la comunión como “alimento para el viaje”).
El programa de esta noche, que está abierto a todos los parroquianos, pero especialmente para nuestros Ministros Ex-
traordinarios de la Sagrada Comunión (EMHC), es: de 5:30 a 6:30 PM: una cena ligera servida en el salón Dougherty (se
aceptan donativos voluntarios); 6:30 a 7:15, una pre-
sentación, en 2 diferentes grupos, uno en inglés y otro en español; cerrando con una bendición a las 7:30 en la iglesia.
Las noches siguientes (aunque son específicas para los ministros litúrgicos, también son abiertas para todos los parro-

Southwest Medical Aid’s Annual Rummage Sale
When: Saturday, November 3rd Where: Nicholson Hall at St. Cyril Time: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Southwest Medical Aid provides medical supplies for the poor
with medical needs. In addition, they give medical supplies to hospitals, clinics and orphanages that are in need in impover-
ished areas. All proceeds go to Southwest Medical Aid so that they may continue this important mission.

Ministry of Hospitality
Although our parish is “home” for many, almost every-one appreciates a warm welcome and being recognized
when arriving. In addition, we often have visitors who join us for Sunday worship and a gesture of welcome
goes a long way to helping them feel a part of our wor-
shiping community.
As a part of our Liturgical Ministries we want to in-
clude a Ministry of Hospitality, and so are looking for families and/or individuals to join us in this ministry.
Our hope is to have enough willing parishioners to share in this
task that any one family / individual would only have to do it once a month. It would require coming to church at least 15
minutes before Mass starts to be at the door ahead of those coming to a specific Mass. If you would be willing to be a part
of this ministry, please call or e-mail our parish’s Director of Lit-urgy & Music, Charmaine Piane-Dame at the parish office (795-
1633, Ext 110 [email protected]).

Capital Campaign Update
We continue to receive rebate monies from parishioners’ contri-butions to the Diocesan Capital Campaign. At this time, our ac-
count has been credited with just over $111,000. These monies are what was used to pay for the renovations of our bathrooms,
add a new Reconciliation Chapel and an enhanced north-east
entrance. Thank you to those who continue to be faithful to paying their pledge!

Seventh Annual St. Cyril Golf Tournament!!
On Saturday, November 3th get ready to tee off with
your favorite golf buddies at the Forty Niner Country Club. Registration will begin at 6:30 AM with a shot-
gun start at 7:30 AM. Lunch will be served at 12:30 PM. There’s lots of great prizes, (including a car) a

School News Noticias Escolares
From Our Principal The Fall Fair was a wonderful time for our parish and school families. It is such a blessing to be able
to watch the students laugh and just have fun. Thank you to all the chairmen and volunteers who
made this event a huge success. I know our stu-
dents will be talking about it for a LONG time. Thursday, the "Saints will be marching in." Our 3rd
and 4th graders have picked a saint to explore, re-port on and dress like. During the 8:00 AM Mass on
November 1, 2012, our students will march in their
saint costumes. This "march" is the culmination of a very im-portant unit for our students to learn about the various saints
that are important to our faith. Did you ever dress up like a Saint?
This week we end our first trimester of the 2012-2013 school year. Students are actively engaged in many things from
learning about the desert environment at Camp Cooper to
writing stories about the one person with whom they would like to have lunch. These are exciting times in education and
we are blessed to have wonderful teachers, enthusiastic staff members, incredible parents and joyous students.
As we head into the 2nd trimester and 2013 we are beginning
our accreditation process. St. Cyril School is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association. In February, 2014, a
team of administrators and educators from other Catholic schools will be on our campus affirming the wonderful educa-
tion we provide to our students. Prior to the actual visit, all
stakeholders will participate in evaluating our school and iden-tifying our strengths and areas of growth. It is an exhausting
time, but one that is worthwhile. Each week in our prayers, we pray for the parishioners of St.
Cyril of Alexandria. Thank you for all you do for our school community. Dr. Zeches
Noticias de la Escuela por Nuestra Directora
La Feria del Otoño resultó divertida para nuestra parroquia y familias de las escuela. Es una ben-dición el ver a los estudiantes reir y divertirse. Muchas gracias a los patrocinadores y voluntarios que hicieron de este evento un rotundo éxito. Yo sé que nuestros estudiantes lo seguirán comentando por MUCHO tiempo. Jueves, los “Santos llegarán marchando.” Nuestros alumnos de 3o. y 4o. escogieron un santo para ex-plorarlo, reportar sobre el, y vestirse igual. El 9 de noviembre, durante la Misa de las 8:00 AM, nuestros
estudiantes entrarán vestidos como sus santos. Esta “marcha” es la culminación de una muy importante unidad de aprendizaje para que nuestros estudiantes sepan sobre varios santos que son importantes para nuestra fe. ¿Alguna vez se vistió usted como un santo? Esta semana terminamos nuestro primer trimestre del ciclo escolar 2012-2013. Nuestros alumnus están muy activos aprendiendo sobre el ambiente desértico en Camp Cooper, escribiendo cuentos sobre la persona con la que desearían comer el almuerzo. Estos son tiempos divertidos en educa-ción y estamos bendecidos por tener fabulosos profesores, miembros estusiastas del personal, padres increíbles y estudi-antes felices. Mientras iniciamos el 2do. de cualquier clase. Muchos de los necesitados que nos visitan, nos los piden porque son extras saludables –
especialmente para los niños. Si usted va al super y
puede comprar un frasco extra de mantequilla de cacahuate o jalea, y/o una caja de cualquier cereal, se lo agrade-

Calling all Peanut Butter, Jelly and Cereal!! Our St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) office is in need of pea-nut butter, jelly and cereal of any kind. There is a con-
stant need for these three items in particular especially because they are so expensive these days. Our SVdP
office is now only able to give these items to folks hav-
ing children. If you’re at the grocery store, and can pick up an extra jar of peanut butter, jelly and/or a box of any kind of ce-
