pated in a four-day learning experiencewhere they went on an exciting journey ofself-discovery to master self-developmentwith new skills and to understand theirindividualism.Forty community members and 20 South

African police members in Kuruman werevery proud to receive their certificates ofparticipation on Thursday (26/02).The programme, sponsored by Assmang

Khumani mine, entails the developing ofskills to know and understand yourselfbetter, to develop a personal brand and todevelop personal leadership as a life skill.Participants learned of this using exciting

discovery tools, creative designs, funactivities and colourful material.They also learnt life skills and had to

complete a brain profile.Francis Wernich, a participant in the

course, said it was an experience of alifetime.“It was an eye opener for me. I lost

myself somewhere along the road and nowI’m back on track.“Through this programme I got my

confidence back. I opened myself for thiscourse. I really wanted to learn more aboutmyself,” she said.“During the course I realised where my

shortcomings were and I realised that thereis still plenty of room for growth.”Wernich concluded in saying that

everything she wanted to achieve was givento God.Col. Kenny Baloyi, station commander of

the Kuruman police, is committed to theupliftment of his staff as he feels thateverybody can be the best person they wantto be.Tshidiso Seikaneng (SED manager:

Assmang Khumani mine) said this programwas aimed at fixing the problem.“We are very proud to be part of this

amazing four-day course. We are committedto community development.”Wilna Engelbrecht (Let’s Go facilitator)

said the program had been very successful.

“The group was very motivated toparticipate and improve themselves. Theyare ready to bring about a positive changein their communities.”

DIE Hoërskool Kathumoes onlangs eenvan sy lojaalsteonderwysers groet.Ná 26 jaar aan die

skool het AlbrechtLouw afgetree.Louw het sy

onderwysloopbaan in1978 in Kimberleybegin. In April 1989het hy hom by dieHoërskool Kathu as’n houtwerk-onder-wyser aangesluit. Tydens syhoutwerkloopbaan het hyverskeie eerbewyse vir sy goeiewerk ontvang. Dit sluit die bestehoutwerk-uitslae in die provin-sie, asook die land, in. Later insy loopbaan het hy ook metaal-werk begin gee en voortgebou opdieselfde hoë standaarde enprestasies. Onder sy leiding hetdie leerlinge onder meer ’nlopende model van ’n renmotorvir die skool gebou.In sy 26 jaar as departements-

hoof van die tegniesedepartement het hynog nooit ’n matriek-druipeling gehad nieen was hy bevoorregom interessantekurrikulumverande-ringe te bestuur.Louw was betrok-

ke by al die fasettevan die skool. Hy hetvir jare die skoolbusbestuur, die terreinin stand gehou,

rugby afgerig, die krieketspanafgerig en was selfs al dienetbalhoof. Hy het skoolgehouom ’n verskil te maak in dielewe van sy leerlinge. VolgensLouw was sy grootste beloningdie “dankie” van ’n oudleerling.Louw sien uit na ’n heerlike

tyd van ontspan, die wêreldverken en om sommer net oupavir sy kleinkinders te wees.Die Hoërskool Kathu het Louw

bedank vir al sy bydraes om dieskool ’n beter skool te maak.

EK weet nie veel van sport af nieen ek sal my nooit as ’n sport-kenner beskryf nie.

Ek kyk net rugby as die Sharksof die Springbokke speel en opdie vraag watter posisie myseuntjie speel, moes ek antwoord:“Hy druk in die skrum. Hy is diemiddelste outjie in die voorstery.” Ek het geen idee wat ’nmens daardie posisie noem nie.

Van al die bietjie sport wat ekkyk, is krieket die een waarvoorek die liefste is.

Dit is die een sport waarvan ekdie meeste reëls ken en die besteverstaan.

Hoewel dit my lank geneem hetom die begrip van partnershiponder die knie te kry. Ek hetgedink die spelers spreek voordie wedstryd af wie mekaar separtners gaan wees.

Unfortunately, the currentpolitical climate, educationalshortcomings and unemploymentamong others contribute to ageneral moral degeneration of theSouth African society.

One of the main influences of acountry’s moral values start at theleaders. It is unfortunate that someof South Africa’s top politicians areclouded in controversy. It is nearimpossible for South Africancitizens to trust and follow leadersthat are constantly being accusedof corruption and even criminalactivities. The public puts its trustin these leaders to make responsi-ble decisions on behalf of thepeople and remain honest in theirduties. Unfortunately, one only hasto listen to news reports to see thatcorruption, nepotism and incompe-tence are rife in leadership circles.

When a tax payer pays his or hertaxes, it is generally understoodthat this money will be used forthe right purposes. In theory, taxmoney should be allocated forsocial grants, education, hospitals,

roads, the supply of power andwater and to ensure the personalsecurity of citizens. This isunfortunately not always the case.Corruption and bad managementpractices eat into the nation’swealth, channelling money awayfrom such projects and the verypeople most dependent on govern-ment for support. These unsavourypractices filter down to provincialand municipal management. Townsand adjoining townships sufferunder poor service delivery. Thisleads to violent protests whereproperty gets damaged and livesare lost. Situations like these are adirect result of a lack of moralobligation that elected officialsshould maintain in their duties.

The solution to this sad state ofaffairs must in part come fromgrassroots level. Parents, teachersand spiritual leaders must con-demn corruption and dishonestyand set a better example.

If the country’s political leaderscontinue to immerse themselves incorruption and disregard thecountry’s laws, it may be time tofind different role models and electbetter leaders. Citizens should riseabove political and governmentincompetence and embrace the truespirit of ubuntu.

For me, following Jesus is one ofthe greatest things in the Bible. Ifwe look at this scripture in detail itsays far more than just reading thephrase. What it tells me, is that noone is left behind. The disciplescame from all walks of life.

Following Jesus is for everyone,but it forces us to confront certainthings in life. God knows the roadswe must take, but to be able tochange we need to walk with Jesus.

Change will only happen througha personal relationship betweenyou and Him. Knowing Him andwalking with Jesus truly trans-forms you.

But here’s the secret. It must bepersonal and it must be often. Theinvitation is based on willingnessto follow. It’s not a kidnappingsituation.

We get many invitations in life.Someone can invite you for a cupof coffee. Invitations can also comeon social media. These you can sayno to, answer later, or ignore.There are also formal invitations toevents that require you to doplanning, like with a wedding.

You also get real life-changinginvitations where, say, someone ofa big company takes you to dinnerand offers you a once-in-a-lifetimeinvitation to work for the company,with extraordinary benefits.

You do not ignore those kinds ofinvitations, you grab hold of it. Youtake note and you respond to it.

When you become used toinvitations, you tend to treatinvitations from Jesus with thesame disregard as worldly ones.You could easily think, oh, its justanother thing from Jesus.

Invitations from Jesus requirethat we pay attention – these willchange our life in extraordinaryways.

Maybe you were saved some 30years ago and are serving God, butHe is now inviting you to have adeeper commitment. He is saying:“Follow me, I have somethingdeeper to share with you.”

To walk with Him means toexperience life with Him. Life withJesus is not just following, butreally sharing life with Him.

OP ’n onlangse vergadering vandie Kuruman-tak van die Vroue-Landbouvereniging (VLV), het Eonde Klerk van die Tuinhuis-kwekery’n praatjie oor die mooiste voëls inSuid-Afrika aangebied, met spesialeverwysing na dié wat in dieKalahari-streek voorkom.Die voëls se eetgewoontes en

soorte neste is bespreek en lede isaangemoedig om selfvoerders enwaterbaddens in hul tuin aan tebring.Volgens De Klerk is die belang-

rikste dat voëls veilig moet voel ennie maklike prooi vir katte enroofvoëls moet word nie.De Klerk het gewaarsku teen die

blindelingse aanskaffing vanbyvoorbeeld sekere soorte pape-gaaie, wat ’n mens kan oorleef enin ’n testament bemaak moet word.Dit is ’n groot verantwoordelikheidom so ’n voël korrek te versorg engenoeg aandag te gee.Die Kuruman-tak het ook besoek

van die sirkelpresident, Carien vanden Berg van Reivillo, ontvang.Van den Berg het die lede

gemotiveer om altyd positief te blyen het ook haar waarderinguitgespreek teenoor die Kuruman-tak, wat die grootste tak in dieKalahari-sirkel is.Magdeleen de Klerk het ’n

demonstrasie gelewer van hoe jyjou eie kerse kan maak en veraldie jonger lede het belangstelling

hierin getoon.Bloedrooi kerse is gemaak om by

die Valentynstema in te skakel. Diemeeste lede was ook dié dag inrooi uitgevat.Daar word nou hard gewerk vir

die konferensie wat aanstaandeweek in Kuruman plaasvind.Tussen 60 en 80 mense word

verwag. Onder die sprekers watgaan optree is JJ van Rensburgvan Garden World, wat ’n tuinbou-praatjie sal lewer, en MartinAustin van Hertex Fabrix.Yolandi Strydom, lewensafrigter

van Kuruman, gaan met die vrouehaar idees oor die tema Vroue metvisie deel. Uitstallings van bonsai-boompies, skilderye en ’n kinder-klerereeks word verwag.

afgeknyp om oor tienerwees na te dink. Methaar onblusbare geesdrif, humor en woord-vaardigheid het Aldrich haar lewenskennisen -insig aan die tieners oorgedra én dietienergehoor aan haar voete gehad.Sy beskou haarself as ’n “pretprater”

eerder as ’n motiveringspreker en begeleireeds die afgelope 17 jaar gehore (volwasse-nes en tieners) in lewensvaardigheid. Dit isegter veral tieners wat haar na aan die hartlê. Met kwinkslae, gevatte sêgoed, deernisvol-le vertellings, verhale uit die werklikheid engrappe laat sy blyk: Tieners is haar passie.Elke graadgroep het deur gonsgroepe en

prettige aktiwiteite geleer:) elkeen het reeds eiewaarde;) jou drome en jou bestemming is die fokus;

suspected drug deal on the afternoonof 18 February while he waited for acomplainant in the Kathu VillageMall parking area.He observed someone in a silver

BMW exchange something with thedriver of a green Ford Fiesta.Const. Senzwesihile Mhlaba

assisted Leepile and they apprehend-ed the driver and passenger of theFiesta.The police searched the vehicle

and found two small plastic bagsthat contained suspected drugs.The BMW driver was also searched

and two plastic bags with suspecteddrugs were found on the driver’sperson.

A FARMER was recently attacked by agroup of men on his farm just outsidePostmasburg. The attack took place on 14February at approximatley 08:00 on thefarm Kareepan.According to the Postmasburg police, the

farmer was attacked at the gate of his farmby a group of men wearing balaclavas.The barking of dogs alerted the farmer’s

son who was inside the house. When hewent outside he saw the robbers andinitially scared them off with an air gun.The suspects, however, returned and one

of them was armed. They stole cash, acellphone and made off with the farmer’sbakkie. The bakkie was found abandonedon the main road. No arrests have beenmade yet. A case of armed robbery is beinginvestigated.An identikit has been compiled of one of

WASTE ACT (59 OF 2008) FOR THE POSTMASBURG LANDFILL SITE

The Tsantsabane Local Municipality has proposed the development of a new Class B Landfill Site for the town of Postmasburg, Northern Cape.The intention is to provide a purpose-built landfill facility for the final disposal of general waste that complies with the national norms andstandards. The current disposal site for Postmasburg (known as Boichoko), has been identified as fatally flawed by the Department of Water andSanitation and will therefore be closed in accordance with the legislative requirements subsequent to the development of the new Landfill Site.The new Postmasburg Landfill Site will be located on municipal-owned land. Three candidate sites have been identified and will be subject to ascoping-level assessment. The candidate sites are:Ÿ Site C - located approximately 5 km east of Postmasburg, adjacent to and north of the R385.Ÿ Site E - positioned approximately 6 km east of Postmasburg, adjacent to and south of the R385.Ÿ Site X - approximately 3 km south-east of Postmasburg, near to the existing sewage works.Based on the scoping outcome, a final preferred site will be subject to detailed investigations during the environmental impact assessmentphase.Several activities for the proposed Postmasburg Class B Landfill Site and closure of the Boichoko Site will require authorisation/licensing underlegislation administered by different competent authorities. These are detailed below:

Synergistics Environmental Services (Pty) Ltd (Synergistics) has been appointed as the independent environmental assessment practitionerresponsible for undertaking the required environmental assessment processes. The new Postmasburg Class B Landfill will be subject to Scopingand Environmental Impact Assessment while closure of the Boichoko site will require a Basic Assessment process. Applications will be submittedto the competent authorities under the NEM:WA and NWA to authorise the Postmasburg Class B Landfill Site and closure of the Boichoko Site.The environmental assessment processes will be undertaken as stipulated in the 2014 EIA Regulations (GNR 982, 8 December 2014) madeunder Section 24(5) and 44 of the NEMA.

Hy en sy pa speel steeds saam by dieKalahari-buiteklub (KCC) in Kathu gholf.“Dit is ook ’n sport wat ek saam met mypa oor ’n naweek kan speel en dit maakdit vir my spesiaal.”

Rabie het in 2009 op sewejarigeouderdom ernstig begin gholf speel. Hyoefen vier tot vyf dae ’n week as ditmoontlik is. Tussen die oefening deurmaak hy nog tyd vir krieket, huiswerken ’n sosiale lewe ook.

Rémon is die jongste gholfspeler watvanjaar aan die SAJI-toernooi gaandeelneem. “Die meeste van my teenstan-ders is o.18- of o.19-spelers, maar ditskrik my nie af nie,” sê hy.

Hy is nie senuweeagtig oor die

toernooi nie. “Ek is darem al teen die tyddie druk en stres gewoond. Dié toernooi isniks teen die druk van die wêreldkam-pioenskapstoernooi nie.”

Hy en sy ouers vertrek op Saterdag 7Maart na die Durbanville-gholfbaan in dieKaap. Tussen sy oefening vir die toernooideur, skryf hy ook sy kwartaaleksamensvroeër.

Die Curro-Kathu-skool staan bankvasagter Rémon. “Die skool ondersteun ons120% en ons waardeer dit geweldig,” sêRebecca Rabie, Rémon se trotse ma.

Rémon bedank graag sy ouers en suster,Vernique (19), vir hul ondersteuning. “Myouers, en spesifiek my pa, maak altyd tydvir my. Hulle probeer hul bes en ry myaltyd na my toernooie toe aan.”

Die SAJI-toernooi is vol uitdagings engeleenthede vir die jong Rémon. Dit bieddie geleentheid vir internasionale promo-tors en universiteite om spelers vir hulinstellings te werf. Dit is die grootsteinternasionale geleentheid wat nog virjunior gholfspelers in Suid-Afrika gehou is.

Volgens Eddie Conradie, bedryfshoof vandie Curro-Kathu-skool, is die skool sebetrokkenheid by gholf nie slegs omkampioene te lewer nie, maar om ookjunior spelers die kans te bied om goeie,afgeronde leiers en studente te word, of ditnou op of van die gholfbaan is.
